Not the original G1 continuity, no.

It's not a "bad idea," it's just not YOUR idea. There's a difference.

It's a good idea now because of the current trend towards revisiting past TV series. Who knows what trend will be in vogue in five years? Not to mention that there's no time to lose with some of the actors involved. Look at Leonard Nimoy's passing. He should have been in Trek 3 in some capacity, but the studio took too damn long.

There's a lot of crap from the original continuity we're all better off without. Sub-Atlantica, B.O.T., Whinymus Prime, the appalling degree of stereotyping when it comes to the Middle East (seriously, Carabombya episodes aren't allowed on TV anymore specifically because they are so goddamn insensitive by modern standards), etc.
So...you're saying it's a good idea...because it's your idea? How does it being your idea inherently define it as something that actually is purely opinion-based in determination?

You mean reinventing and updating them. You will not get a sequel to G1 directly from even S3, those designs are hilariously outdated in terms of looking "futuristic" because they're so blocky, along with said blocky future designs being in 2005 a.k.a. ten years ago. It's been 30 years, let G1's story remain as it is instead of trying to force in what you and only you think needs to happen to a toy franchise that's so old it is classified as vintage these days.

Dude, Chris Latta died back in 1994. You've already lost if what you're trying to do is literally resurect a campy Saturday morning 80's cartoon where most of those characters died in 1986 as it is.

    G1 ≠ the cartoon.

I'm a fan of the G1 comic and toys, and I think the cartoon is too weak fictionally to deserve a sequel. Even if you DID make a sequel to it, it wouldn't have the "Sunbow" feeling unless it was poorly written, barely thought-out, and carelessly animated.

Beast Wars is the best it's going to get, unless IDW decides to make a comic-form sequel that its target audience wouldn't care about. There's quite a few people out there that already think the Marvel comics were in-continuity with Sunbow, and they won't even read those.

    Quoting this for emphasis.

Ah thanks Autovolt. I don't keep up with the comics but I hear bits and pieces that kinda want to draw me in. Ugh.

    Oh, good to know.

No, the original G1 continuity was not from Marvel Comics. It preceded the actual comics but was written by Marvel writers of the time, including Dennis O'Neil, who named a number of TFs, including Optimus himself.

Also, to those bitching about the designs, the original toon, etc: never did I say that there wouldn't be updates to the designs or storytelling. In fact, I said the reverse. New designs/upgrades for the original G1 bots, and of course, new characters.

I also mentioned the themes I'd want the story to explore: galactic politics and the social implications of a restored Cyberton for the TF race. Did none of you read my original post?

I'd much rather have a fresh start, a new show in a new continuity. Not G1, not Aligned, just something new, like Animated, Beast Wars, or the Unicron Trilogy.

I'm definitely down for a G1 cartoon sequel. Just hope it retains some of the original designs and animation from Toei or another Japanese studio.

    excuse me?
"No, the original G1 continuity was not from Marvel Comics."??

Sorry but you are dead wrong. The first Marvel TF comic was released 4 months before the first episode of the cartoon aired.

Yes, Dennis O'Neil named Optimus, maybe some others, that does not equate to a "continuity".Marvel created the back story, most of the character profiles ............and the first fictional story.

As a matter of fact, it was Marvel comics that came up with the idea of doing a cartoon, Hasbro approached Marvel to create a fiction for the toys, the only thing Hasbro had in mind was come comics.

I wouldn't mind a direct-to-video movie or mini-series that deals with the transition from the G1 era to the BW era, 'passing the torch', as it were.

Tough to see a scenario where a sequel series works well, and tougher one where Hasbro has sufficient incentive to get behind it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

As a child of the 80's, things need to be left the way they are. Comics have re-imagined what might have been, but those stories had a place and time, and that time has passed.

I find most of the younger and newer fans tend to think of G1 as some mystical holy era, which is flattering I'm sure, but G1 is enjoying its moment through Classics, Universe, Generations, and through the IDW comics.

There is no need for the original G1 to suddenly be thrust back into our era.

Why would we need a sequel to a show that was a bunch of oneshots without much of an overall specific story?

    This times a million.

I have only seen a relaunch sequel done right twice. One was Slayers Revolution and the other was The New Tick.

How about a G1 retelling (e.g. Thundercats, GI Joe: Renegades, Odd Couple, TMNT) instead of a sequel/reboot? It could be tied into the CHUG line in the same way that Marvel's current cartoons are tied to their MCU toys.

    No, the comic came first.

    There you go.

It would be too jarring to the original cartoon if a sequel became some well-thought-out, multi-layered and cleverly written cartoon.
