I can't recommend any TF for a 5 yr old... except ones like the spy changers, since my 6 yr old son won't play with any Transformers except those so....that is your call..

The paint issues, it's paint, just touch it up.
The wrong size pegs, no issues what so ever as long as your willing to either shave them down or add future...

Other than that, there is only one spot on the figure that doesn't really look like it has a way to fix it, and that's the rear roof while in car mode, but it doesn't really effect anything.

So, if you are asking if I recommend giving this toy to someone that doesn't have the appreciation for the figures that we as adults do, then yes, this would be perfect for them. It gets them a really good figure for half the price without having to worry about it. Maybe appreciation isn't the correct word, maybe dexterity? or ability to take care of ones toys? IDK but, I hope you get what I'm saying.

Just remember, that the wings are easy to snap even by grown ass men so expect them to snap off rather soon once you 5 yr old gets a hold of it.

Honestly, I would go for a figure like Sideswipe or Red Alert ONLY because of the wing issues with this figure (the wing figures have nothing to do with it being a KO, it's an actual issue with the original figure) My wings are not stiff like people reported the original having.

 

My daughter's 7th birthday presents will include one.

She is very careful with her things though. I trust her to transform some of my MPs with supervision.

 

My daughter Transforms mine with me around. She does well. She enjoys G1 toys, and Masterpieces. She isn't big into the Prime or other lines though. So I asked her which one she would one, Sideswipe or WJ, she said Swipe cuz it is red. So guess that is the one she is getting.

Above problem, I attempt to take a picture of here. You can see into the dark area, the plug for the back, that is just not plugged in because it will not stay plugged in due to being too small.


I think this shot shows why the back roof/hood does not close properly, look at the right wheel and the white plastic it's attached to.

Is it this peg that doesn't want to stay?

 

Yes, that is the peg, it's just too small for the hole, some future should clear it up and when it does, it should stay put. I won't have time to customize mine until this weekend while I'm at work so..

Technically, they both won't stay... the one in the red circle won't stay in bot mode, the one the red circle is barely touching on the left hand of the circle, won't stay in alt mode.

 

My peg is snug and secure. The only part that keeps popping off for me is the mirror(s). I'm debating adding some Zap-a-Gap to keep them in there.

 

It left new york like, 3 hours after it got there. Huzzah. No getting stuck in customs for weeks on end.

 

Yeah, I never go by Ebay's tracking info. My status finally updated this morning, just left New York.  

 

got mine a couple days ago, similar issues being discussed here;

shaved the tabs on the gun a bit, works fine now.
the rear window peice isn't tabbing in well in vehicle mode, but fine in robot mode.
paints a bit sloppy.
mirrors are fine.

biggest issue is the shoulder weapon; whatever screw they used is useless, just pulls right apart. the mounting peg is just free-flopping. i suspect there's a peice oof some kind (possibly a pin) missing that's supposed to give it some stay-in-place power.

for the cost, most of the issues don't bother me. i don't mind doing some trim and tolerance fixes on these, but i'm not sure how to fix the shoulder cannon.

 

Just got home, and had Takasa Tony WJ waiting for me... Other then a few paint oversprays, he is much better then all the other KO MP's... I dont have any issues with my figure, his joints are nice and tight and everything pegs in securly...

 

Mine is still sitting in Chicago.   It's been there since the stinking 2nd.

 

Looks pretty good with the rest of our Autobots.

seeing your MP bee made me remember that his KO hasnt come out yet.
i dont think i want even a KO of it though, takara totally missed the mark on his face.

magnus, on the other hand...nah i bet his KO would suck for the first 3 versions like the kO MP10s.
