So buy the toy online. Banning third parties from conventions isn't hurting anyone

So I have a question for all the third party guys

I've seen it said numerous times that Takara doesn't put out Mps fast enough. How many figures would they have to out out a year to satisfy your demands?

So... how would this apply to 3rd party original characters like the Retro-Future Glacialords? Or is mimicking HasTak engineering also infringing on intellectual property? You know what, it probably is. :(

On the subject of original characters though, fansproject Pharaohtron when?

Bravo Bravo!! I like that last little paragraph!! Just want my figures to look as accurate to the show as possible. If it's Hasbro/Takara then I'll buy. If it's 3rd party and I feel it is justifiable (in my opinion) then 3rd party it is!

AGAIN...what action Hasbro decides to take (or not take) is up to them. But it's completely insane to suggest they have to compete with the people who are stealing their stuff. This is not an example of two companies competing with a similar product. It's one company taking what belongs to the other and making a profit off it.

Are you not getting this or are you simply ignoring is because you don't like the undeniable truth? Don't worry - not here to make an argument that everything Hasbro releases is solid gold - I can totally see why somebody would rather own '3rd Part product X' instead of the official version, especially with Hasbro's tendency to downsize, cheapen on paints apps, etc.

But that does not change the fact that it's intellectual property infringement, theft, and those rules exist to prevent people from taking your hard work and running with it, which is a good thing.

That would depend on what type of engineering is oficially owned by Hasbro/Takara. Weren't balljoints at one point in time trademarked? Not sure.

You can't really trademark a 'style' in most fields, however. The Glacialords would probably be safe..true, they totally mimic G1-era Transformers, but they don't mimic specific characters. That's different from a figure clearly meant to be Snarl looking like Snarl. :)

As for Botcon however..I'm sure they'll ban that as well just to be sure. They probably can't go into extreme details and figure out what goes and what doesn't for every single product, so just to be safe that probably gets a no.

The same could be said (and in some cases, have been said) of Hasbro stuff too. But that's ok. All of my 3rd party stuff is still intact, haven't even broken, haven't even shown signs of breaking, and are still a joy to play with, pose, and display. I can't really say the same about all of the Hasbro figures I've purchased though.

One little tip though, don't man-handle your toys. That ought to help you make your stuff last a little longer.

Time to take that "meaningless term" off the forums! Let's call it IP Infringement Forum now.

It's all about making Pete happy.

oh goodie all the vendors will be selling 3P items out of their hotel rooms into late hours of the night now.

should I just bypass botcon all together and just come to the hotel later to hit up all the vendors? sounds like a better deal, and no admission fees.

good luck getting clarification from pete as i do not recall him giving much back in 2012 when they did this before.

that aid if it was my call this would the hard and fast rules:

    1. No KOs a KOs is a direct copy of a Hasbro product. ( example the g1 kos from China that are everywhere)
    2. No use of Hasbro/takara owned names or icons/emblems .
    3. no figure that takes engineering directly from a hasbro product and replicates it virtually unchanged . ( example Igears Faith leader and the mp seekers would be a no no.)
    4. no unauthorized sales of reproductions of stickers/decals for transformers figures. ( I would allow companies to apply for a short term license for the length of botcon ) original sticker sets for a figure are okay.
    5. all add on kits are fine as are figures inspired by transformers characters but are complete original works. ( examples FP's City Commander armor and there Code figures)

Or, more accurately, it's about a company that just doesn't want the convention they run full of toys made by other companies that essentially steal their characters and make profit off of them.

Pete is just speaking on their behalf, and for how many of these comments he must read it must be a rough gig. And to quote Prime's Breakdown:

"I know it's thankless down there. Keep up the good work, huh?"

Hasn't these policy been in effect for years now? The only toys removed were KOs and the iGear MP Seekers, which copied Hasbro molds. So nothing has changed. Don't sell KOs and iGear MP Seekers on the floor.

Read this hasbro and all 3rd parties and fans alike!!!!

I have read nearly every post on this board, and it is a fascinating discussion. I have few thoughts on all this. I am no one important, just a fellow collector! That being said, I can see 2 sides of the same coin. I DO collect TRANSFORMERS (look alikes or not). I do not collect simply Has/Tak, or simply the many wonderful 3rd parties alone. I do however collect both as to what suits my NEEDS! I have 3 rules to my collection. 1. it must be cartoon accurate as possible!!!!! A nd if that means 1 or the other I get it from whom ever has the most accurate (its the OCD in me ). 82% of the time Has/Tak, simply cannot get me a cartoon accurate toy to save my Tacos!!! Where as nearly 98% of the time, the 3rd party market gets it right in both colour and size comparison!!

    2. It must be reasonable quality and not break at transformation or common play ( I have a child and yes I play). Honestly, Hasbro has ALL these laws rules and regulations they must follow, but their quality is about a crappy as it comes 58% of the time compared to 3rd party which I have less issues with! EVEN, when I hear about how bad some are, I never seem to get the same result as the next feller. Lucky? Mabey! At least, 3rd party with less rules and regulations has a 86% better quality toy than Has/Tak!! I SIMPLY WOULDNT LET MY WIFE AND CHILD PLAY WITH AN UN SAFE TOY!

    3. The price has to be right, Hasbro always seems to price gouge and have less quality over the years, example: The RID 2015's are not up to scratch, they are worse than a knock off and at 26.00 a pop, to heck with that. Besides has ANYBODY NOTICED WE ALREADY HAD A RID RUN IN 2000 A.D.??? DO THEY THINK I AM STUPID? PLEASE, don't insult my intelligence Hasbro. poor quality and pitiful price! Its worth it to me to pay for 2 of say...FT'S Soar for 199.00 and get ALL of what I NEED, than those Hasbro FAILED attempts for 65.00 when they came out! Of course your gonna pay a bit more...but 3rd parties 96% of the time have what fans want. I was actually going to applaud Hasbro for the combiner wars, UNTIL THEY TOOK OUT 1 VITAL PIECE FROM EACH COMBINER, now its just rubbish, but 4 out of 5 fit the classics line almost perfectly, (aside from motor master not having toon accurate colours and NO TRAILER!) I will be getting 3rd party stuff to bring it up to scratch!

Hasbro for the most part may have some clue as to what certain fans want, but they are sooo far off base its unnatural, Takara, is pumping out some great masterpieces and I have been pleased with everyone so far (even Exhaust, since I have no way to toon accurately compare him its great). In reality as slow as Takara is ...do you really think we will get a complete original G1 line before we all pass away or our children do? I think the 3rd party is a big help in putting a giant pacifier in my mouth until Takara does make the official stuff we need like, Ironhide, Ratchet, Sunstreaker, Galvatron, AND ALL the ones we happily sit and wait for. I want Takara to know right now...if you announce a Masterpiece Sunstreaker and follow through, I will happily cancle my pre-order for the 3rd party Spinout!!!! I make that promise to you Takara (if they even read this).

3rd party is very vital to Transformer collecting, God knows Hasbro isn't creating anything except oversized kid meal toys, and simple baby formers, and The goofiest sub-lines I have ever witnessed! Not to mention 2 things at botcon 1. How many Bumblebee variations will there be? and 2. How un creative the RID 2015 is ...REALLY GUYS? YOU CANT COME UP WITH ANYTHING ELSE?..UNCREATIVE!!!!!!!

Until Hasbro can make a better product, and Takara gets the lead out, I will buy 3rd party stuff and I thank each and every company making new figures, to make the COMPLETIONIST in me, Excited. Even if I never bout from some before, someone, out there, does buy from you to make what their heart desires. Your cost is Fair and Hasbro's isn't!

One last thing on this rant..Hasbro get it together would ya? get back to what brought you to the dance!!! One day IF you don't go belly-up, I hope to see you make better things, but as long as things keep going the way they are...from what I been reading, YOU DONT STAND A CHANCE AGAINST THE MANY COMPANIES GUNNING FOR YOU, AND TAKING YOUR FANS AND MAKEING THE TRANSFORMERS PURE AGAIN!!!!

My suggestion is ALLOW 3rd party companies product, its called BOT-CON for a reason. Change the name if you want to do dumb stuff like banning things. call it HAS-CON. Believe me it fits!!! You bunch of CONS! Maybe one day Takara will smartin' up and Dump Hasbro and team with a 3rd party or 2!!
    IT COULD HAPPEN!!!!!

I'm confused. Your first requirement is that toys are produced exactly like Hasbro's cartoon and yet you think Hasbro is uncreative?

I'd say the most likely target of this announcement is MP KOs, like Prowl and Grimlock, which are low cost, high quality toys competing with stuff that Hasbro is making and selling in stores today. If Hasbro walks down the rows at the con and sees a table full of $35 MP Prowls an $25 MP cassettes, they might be pissed.

Yes, it's called "BotCon"...as in "AutoBOT" and "DeceptiCON".

-SS (it has always been a TRANSFORMERS convention as evidenced by the fiction, guests, imagery, and exclusives)

Even though I collect Has/Tak specifically and 3rd party stuff doesn't concern me, it makes complete and total sense to ban 3rd party figures/add-ons from the OFFICIAL TF convention.
