I appreciate the effort they've gone to with this, and am happy that it will appeal to some. For me, it's a great big meh.

A repaint of a mold I like, done deal. A pretender shell for a character that I've never even heard of. recycling fodder.

The reveal method of the "empty egg" leading to the shell was cute.

The shell looks great. I've conveniently just gotten into Pretenders now, so this is pretty cool.

I'd love to see them tackle that spider/four-armed monster thing Double Pretender in the future as well.

I can't go to this year's convention (living in CA, it's always feasible when it's in-state, not so much otherwise) so now I have to figure out how I'm procuring this set...

Same here. On the one hand it is obviously tops Scorponok in a lot of respects, but it is a bit random.

If they had been able to reproduce the original hardcopy then my G1 nostalgia would be kicking in big time, but as a classic update I don't get that.

I don't mean to sound negative, its a great to produce a whole figure from scratch (though I'm dreading the price) and as an update it looks fantastic.

I hope so because the other ones colours are so much better.

It had to be a new mould really. No way could it have lived up to the claim that it would top Scorponok.

I do love how the robots fit in so neatly, but annoyingly it does mean if the other colour version is going to be used they probably cant fit different moulds inside.

Swerve does look surprisingly good in Decepticon colours.

Yeah, we've had it pretty good for a few years now. I don't begrudge others having it close to them.

My big complaint isn't that it's not in CA this year. It's that it's such an absurd distance away from the nearest airport. That ramps up the cost (to say nothing of time to get there) beyond my comfort.

Maybe next year... or the year after that (isn't the next TF movie in 2017?).

so now I'm 2/5 on this set, possibly 3/5 if I find something to do with that Megatron.

While I'm not the biggest fan of Pretenders, I really dig the fact that they went with something different. I wasn't expecting this at all.

As a Chicago resident myself, I find it bizarre they are in St. Charles instead of the convention hub that is Rosemont, right next to the airport.

I know the rumor had been going around for a while but I am still surprised to see that they did the pretender shell. This will be one full box set. I have all the other sets and I hope this still keeps the same length/width dimensions as the previous sets. While I still wish they would improve on the theme/continuity of the sets, I like the offering this year. Very glad to see more than just Hasbro repaints.

Yep, '17 is the plan for the next movie, so I imagine they'll be back in CA at least by then.

While I don't like Pretenders and think it is a dumb concept, that is decently impressive that they molded a whole figure for the set. Besides the Jazz mold, that is the only one I wouldn't mind owning.

Cool for people that want updated Pretenders instead of Pretender lookalikes *cough*PW2*cough*.

Me? No interest. Only pretender in my collection is Dairycon Motormaster and I intend to keep it that way.

They had mentioned for years that they wanted to have it in Chicago, but couldn't due to costs (presumably from the unions). I assume this was the best they could do and hit the cost numbers.

Rosemont isn't Chicago though, separate municipality.

It's why OTFCC '03, OTFCC '04, and TFCon 14 were all there.

Credit where it's due, good job BotCon. This bodes well for future releases as well.

Sounds pretty likely, plus Pheasant Run seems like a decent option away from the city with all of their convention space.

    Now to wait for registration....

If you want a Legends toy in a G1 shell, you can do that with Jazz and Bumblebee. Maybe Grimlock.

So, if the pretender shell counts, we actually have ELEVEN figures here.
