I think that's a design compromise to keep the detials similar to G1, who's transformation left him with essentially "reversed" knees - looks like they inverted that, to keep the detail/style, but let him have functional knees.

 

You know where the headphone jack is!!!! This version of soundwave is probably the best I've seen. And it works.

I call shenanigans on Dengeki Hobby's movie Protoform pictures -- they're the Hasbro cardback pics with the unused Starscream headsulpt and different colors.

Does any one know the storage capacity on the mp3 Soundwave. 1G, 2G?

I think ill just wait for the 80 Gig video Soundwave. or the 8 Gig Soundwave nano.

I finally put my preorder on this thing though. Like MMM I hope it has a display, but in the end I am buying as a Soundwave toy 1st, MP3 player second.

 

The capacity will be according to the SD memory card you put inside.

 

Very cool. The mold looks real good, almost better than the regular Soundwave mold.

That Soundwave is tits. Can't wait to see the final. He just may trump MP Megs & Skywarp for best TF of the year. Shame on Hasbro for not putting it in Classics. SHAME.

 

MP3 Soundwave looks great. I'm guessing the MP3 itself will be generic. Is it known if it's compatible up to 1GB SD card like many players on the market or if it's lower?

 

Maybe if they're going for an actual iPod display, but it's a whole different matter if they're just going for el-cheapo LCD screen. That kind of screen could run you as much as 5 cents per unit (for that size) during production (usually less).

The electronics to interface between the MP3 player, controls, and screen would likely be the problem as far as price point. That could be as much as $1 per unit, which likely really wouldn't allow for a large enough profit margin (with the other production costs for a more limited-run figure like this).

It all depends upon what TakaraTomy wants to set as their goal for profit margin versus product quality. They're obviously not going to go for something as totally unfeasible as a high-quality display, but a bottom-of-the-line one could set a reasonable trade-off of profit for fans-singing-their-praises (which we know can have its own long-term payoff).

Here's hoping TakaraTomy decides to think a little more long-term for this release.
