I got my set Wednesday. I have to say i am pretty disappointed.
I stared putting the kit on today. The plastic is a bit thin, IMO. I had a few stress marks on the back where the swivels go. Both hands were a floppy mess. I had to custom fit 5 out of the 6 toe parts. The elbow joint swivel for the new forearm is to tight so it tends to slide and put pressure on the inner half of the forearm. Snapped a screw head off and somehow bent another. The little screws in the baggie are the ones that broke and warped. It's like they were made out of hope, instead of metal. Even tried to notch the broken screw so I could use a flat head to back the screw out. Every time I tried the screw just crumbled. I think I am going to try to e-mail the company and see if I can get a replacement cannon arm and hand. Just the forearm and hand. The new head and the fixed backpack alone almost make up for the thin plastic and cheap screws. I love this figure and the new backpack is great, but I don't think the set is worth 30+ bucks.

 

I've tried to find a way to email them but can't seem to find it, I just want to get a new hand for his cannon arm, too bad someone hasn't made a better set of hands for this set on shapeways because I'd get them if they worked better

 

man, where was this when I packed my Prime Megatron away!! Will have to get this... This is how megatron should have looked from the beginning.

So quick question, how did they make him slightly taller?

edit: aaah, my bad, didn't see the mini platform shoes.. good idea. need to get myself a set of these.... always bugged the hell outta me prime megs is shorter than prime prime (even the non first ed version)

 

Yeah, I needed a new cannon forearm. I got in contact with BBTS to see if they had contact info. They had nothing and suggested a FB page. DMY Studios doesn't have a FB page. The web site on the back of the box for the set takes you to a page not found page. BBTS, (Being the awesome that they are) offered me a refund and paid for shipping. I sent my set back yesterday. Shame. I was really looking forward to this set. Maybe I will try again on the next batch run. Hopefully they are better after the first run.

 

Man, I wanted this set so bad, but it's sounding like it's not even worth it. What about the head and back pieces? Are they at least worth it? (They were my biggest requirement out of the set, anyway. Perhaps the foot lifts.)

 

BBTS has this set up for preorder (the regular version).. anyone know if any of these problems will be fixed with this next batch?

i really only want the cannon. i love the regular head, so i won't be changing that. it'd be nice though if all of this extra stuff works right. i don't want to spend $35 for a cannon.

Still waiting for this upgrade kit to be released for the AM-33 Final Battle Megatron deco. The other decos don't do anything for me.

This kit ended up being pretty cool, though it has some bad design choices in my opinion. I fixed a few things, so I wanted to share what it CAN look like with a little work.

Issues I dealt with:
(1) Hands are poorly designed because they peg together _around_ a ball joint, making it impossible to keep them from being floppy. So I glued the hands together with super glue, and used some Future to tighten the joint.
(2) The new wing pieces didn't sit flush with each other in vehicle mode. So I wrapped a rubber band around them and zapped it with a hair dryer to decrease the gap between them.
(3) The pegs on the new wing pieces have stress marks on them. So I reinforced the base of the pegs with a little bit of E6000 glue to make them less likely to break in the future.
(4) Don't care about the platform shoes, and I think they look bad anyway. I kept them in the box.
(5) I don't have a Dark Star Saber, and I think it was a really bad idea to have the attachment point for the fusion cannon double as a sheath: It made the fusion cannon sit way too high in alt-mode. So I cut that piece up and just glued the 5mm peg directly to the part that attaches to the cannon. Now the cannon sits much lower in alt-mode.
(6) The only alteration I made to the original toy itself: The translucent purple arm that the fusion cannon plugs into angles upward to allow the stock (huge) fusion cannon to fit on there. So I knocked out the pin holding it in and flipped it upside down. (This works because there's a peg hole on the bottom side as well. Now the fusion cannon sits RIGHT WHERE I WANT IT in alt-mode.
(6b) The purple arm that the fusion cannon pegs into now doesn't fold in _quite_ as far in bot mode as it did before, but it still looks totally fine. And I don't even have to remove the peg that the cannon attaches to: It just sits in the hole in Megatrons back.

After all that... I'm pretty happy with this set. If you're willing to put in the work, it makes Megatron freaking awesome! I'm so glad he has a show-accurate-sized fusion cannon now that doesn't look ridiculous in alt-mode! If you're looking for something you'll be happy with right out of the box, I think you'll be disappointed; but with a little work, it's pretty great.
