    Huh.

Transformers as a brand can and IS able to do the whole "expanded collective universe" thing, so conceptually it's a great idea ......but these movies reaaaally aren't set up for that. None of the plot points really connect together, and none of the living characters are the types I'd want to see a whole movie of. Not to mention the existing films have been repetitive and had to heavily rely on China to support itself last time, which makes me question how they figure on doing spin-offs.

Assuming 'cinematic universe' even means anything, or if it's just the new "darker sequel".

Again, that's a nice inspiring spin on it, but from a practical stand point, doesn't mater. Public image maters. And the public image of the Transformers is awful.

Which makes it ruined forever then.

All of these films were heavily marketed and they all suck.

I think Goldsman wasn't anywhere near the top of the list of people Paramount wanted to fill this role. But Kruger's shit tier writing condemed them to having to accept the man who wrote fucking Batman and Robin.

Ugh. Please, no more. The comics and last couple animated series have proven there's real gold to mine in the Hasbro franchises, even if the movie team is blind to them.

Treat your damn characters with some thought and respect and other people will too.

So just fire everyone, take a few years off, focus on a great Transformers vs GI Joe reboot script that's more sci-fi than action, and get a young hungry director.

Make people love your characters, not your explosions.

Then spin them both of into separate franchises.

Does this mean I should work on my reboot idea with room for spinoffs after one sequel?

Because honestly, a two-part Earthside story then shifting to a Scavengers story on Cybertron then one set on a starship that finds a lost colony that all lead into an Avengers-style Remain In Light film would be awesome.

Then why are half of the Transformers movies billion dollar grossing films, why do people keep going to see them?

Doing this is a good idea, but IMO they need to reboot it first.

The foundations to build upon are already a mess (and that's coming from someone who enjoys these movies for what they are) and too many big name characters are already dead.

Has anyone entertained the possibility that perhaps this is a reboot?

The last movie saw a huge dropoff in domestic box office and home video sales. The international market saved it because of the huge Chinese marketing plan.

Who knows, maybe the international market likes that stuff enough to continue to support it. But it could just as easily be a "fool me once..." situation. And the next one could bomb worldwide.

If I was Hasbro or Paramount, I'd tread very lightly before spending a few hundred million on the next movie and subsequent product lines.

Actually, there were a lot of movies that didnt meet expectations, it could have been just a weird year. The drop off in sales of home video isn't really that relevant, what is more important is the numbers. That doesn't explain the success of DoTM either.

You would have think that if that was true, the movies would have stopped making money ages ago, like Battlefield Earth and Waterworld did. But nope, the movies for better of for worse, keep making money.

At this point, you´re just sad.

Just read this on MSN... not gonna get all crazy about it, just wait and see what they announce as their strategy and upcoming movie plans.
Hopefully Optimus will find the creators and deal with them by checking their faces... :D

Very excited they are going this route. We talked about spin offs and a full universe and many said it would never happen.

Oh boy... You know, I used to like the movie-verse... Yeah, they had many, many problems, but they weren't entirely bad, and even ROTF had it's moments... But ever since my enjoyment of AOE dwindled as I analyzed it more, I've just completely lost interest. I was hanging onto the slight hope that it might get better with TF5, but with the infamous Batman and Robin writer... This is probably not gonna end well... Hopefully they'll surprise everyone and manage to make the franchise well and truly good. To be honest, I think the franchise should have ended with DOTM. :(

    A cinematic universe!?

While Bay probably won't direct all these films (come on people use some sense) he'll probably stick around as executive producer so he can maintain the universe he started. I intend to see him have some say in TF5 too even if it's uncredited. I also expect that at some point down the road he my return to helm another film after getting rid of franchise fatigue.

I've been wondering why my 25 year obsession with Transformers has been waning oh so heavily lately, and now this. I guess this is goodbye for me fellas. Turning the current Movie TF stuff into an even bigger sloppier mess than it already is, is the last straw for me I think. With the enormous lack of story already put into the first 4 movies how the FUCK can they come up with a cinematic universe that they think can compete with Marvel's?

You do know that you're talking about the same guy Hasbro had to write a $10 million check to simply to agree to direct the third film and conclude the first trilogy before it was even the "first" to begin with, right?

If you haven't already, go check out the IDW comics, especially MTMTE.

It is everything the movies aren't and it is glorious.
