I believe the purpose of the sliding cockpit was that there was more armor around the non-door portion of the torso, affording the pilot greater protection from "small arms" (at least, in gundam terms) fire. Obviously, a beam saber is going to chop through it anyway, but vulcans and machine gun fire would be less likely to penetrate all the way to the cockpit if it was recessed and away from the entrance hatch. A lot of other designs have similar "protections" afforded to pilots, in terms of multiple doors and swinging hatch armor.
Zakus can also carry passengers. the area in front of the door is where the passenger can stand. they get out, and then the seat slides over so the pilot can get out.
I use your basic fine-tip black Gundam marker. The varying states of the panel lines is due, quite honestly, to the fact my hands get sweaty easily. The lines get faded, and I'll re-mark them on occasion (not necessarily all at once, though).
Oh. so it protects decals too huh? Looks like I have to consider apply top coat to my kits also. And yeah, you're right...Char did point out to his soldiers that the Gundam's cockpit around the belly area....it was during a few episode after Garma's death.
OK...I have a bunch of questions for anyone who has done a 1/60 scale Gundam. -Exactly how tall are they? (in inches people...I'm an American I can't convert!) -Exactly how much detail do the have? (is it more like an MG or like the regular Seed Destiny models?) -Can I see more pictures of PG Gundams? Been seriously drooling over images I have found of MBF-02 Strike Rouge + Skygrasper. Wish it came w/o the stupid Skygrasper.
I don''t own any of the PGs or any of the 1/60 lits but I've seen a couple upclose...they're either slighter taller or shorter compared to the 12-13 inches Marvel Legend figures. Go to dalong.net, "PG" section and check out the RX-78 Gundam...there's comparison pictures of it with a MG kit. Regarding details...the trend is the newer the kit, the more detailed and complicated the kit will be.
I don't have a tape measure handy, but by spec my PG Mk II should be 12.86 inches high at the beamsabers. 12.13 inches high at the head. Pretty simple math if you can track down the suit dimensions, which are at MAHQ. Detail, again, I can only speak for the Mk II having seen it in person, but it's kind of a mix. If you're talking mechanical greeble, the interior is as detailed or more than that of the MG 2.0 Mk II. There is so much stuff in there, it's ridiculous. I've got pics of the skeleton earlier in this thread. The external armor is surprisingly lacking in engraved panel lines, probably because most places that would get a line on a smaller kit are the edge of an actual panel on the PG.
Guys, I tried spraying some paint on an old Gundam kit and although I've chosen the correct paint colours, I realised that bubbles are form after I spray-paint the parts. What are the solutions to remove the bubbles?
Pretty much wet sand and try another coat, or strip the paint and try again. I'm not sure exactly why you got bubbles thought. Were you holding the can too close perhaps?
And try doing thiner coats of paint next time to reduce the chance of getting bubbles. Do 2 or 3 passes with thte paint and then let it sit for 20 mins before you spray again.
OK , so I use the small clippers and one of my wifes small emery boards but I still I get some spots and scuffs on my parts. How do I get the pieces off the spru clean ? Also ... I got some new models on sale but they are glue only and I can't underston the dang instructions , do they need paint too ? If so how do I find out what color brown my Zeon with whip hands is ? Bandai models are harder so I want them to look good.
A small tase of things to come: HO boy, this is a good one! I don't think you can every get the clips from the sprue perfect. That is one of the reasons for paint. A lot of the new MG kits are designed in such a way that the sprue clip will be covered in final assembly so you don't need to worry too much about them. If you got a glue kit, then I am quite sure it would need paint as well. The older kits are not nearly as good as the new ones. 1/60 scale is not definate, some of the Big scale kits are not very detailed at all, like the Strike Freedom Lightning edition. Just not a lot of articulation or posability if you compare it with the MG kits. As for the PG ones, I have not done one yet. I am considering but I am sure there is not a lot of need for pannel lines as stated previous, I would think all the pannels are done as seperate pieces, taking away the need for panel lines. We just got in the Strike Noir MG, WOW, what a great looking kit. I know what my next project is going to be! Spencer.
I only own two Gundams: 1) Wing Zero from the Arch Enemy Series 2) 12" Deluxe Transforming Gundam GP-02 A (Stardust Memory) I really like this figure but I’m selling it to raise some funds.
I had that 12" GP-02 A but he became lost and I have not seen him in a few years. I do need to post on here cause I have a decent size collection. I have most of the US MSIA figures, five FIX figures and have done a few crappy kits way back when. I still have two MG kits that are about a 1/4 of the way done and I'll most lilkely never finish cause I got rid of most of my supplies for kit building. Anyway I'll probably post some pics of my favorite figures either today or tomorrow though.
Hrm, got impatient and picked one up elsewhere a couple of days ago. Oh well, I'll be hitting you guys up for other stuff anyways. You planning on getting the 1/100 Akatsuki in? Anyways, I just finished test-building my Strike Noir today, and wow, it is awesome. I wasn't really expecting that much since I've already build the Strike before, but I can say that I'm more than pleasantly surprised. All the joints feel a bit stiffer than before, and the tolerances are a lot better. Generally all the minor flaws of the Strike kit have been fixed. It's probably one of the most fun kits to date to just play around with and pose, it's just got so many options. The dual beam pistols are sweet, and the variable geometry wings just look snazzy in their different configurations. You can just waste hours posing and reposing this sucker. I was also happy to find that the guns and swords fit comfortably in the poseable hands as well. I find having to switch hand sets kind of irritating, especially having to disassemble the pistol grip hands to switch the guns. Still, they're useful if you want it to have a more solid hold on its weapons. The only real drawback to it is that since it reuses parts of the original Strike's frame, it's still got the older balljointed hips, instead of the newer universal-joint hips, so they're a bit more restricted in their posing. At least the Strike had a decent range to begin with, so it's not too bad, unlike the old Wing kits. There's one small issue with the kit that I'd like to point out, before you break something, though: the tolerances on the gun barrel part to its long rifles is a bit too tight. The gun barrel pieces will just not go on. I had to shave a thin layer of plastic off the flat side of the peg (you know, how some pegs on Gundam models are "D" shaped, so that the gun barrel only goes on one way?) before the barrels slipped on comfortably. Similarly, the thruster housings on the grenades are also quite tight, but they're doable. Just a small word of warning before you go applying excessive force to easily breakable areas. Also, keep a close eye on tiny pieces. The little gun barrel parts for its pistols and its sword handles (yeah, the sword handles are also beam guns for its flight pack) are perhaps the tiniest pieces I've seen to date. Regular PG Strike Gundam: Those are the Gundam Wing HG kits with it (which I suppose is a sort of indication of size).
Now those are the best shots I have seen of a PG Draven. I think I will try my hand at one in the not too distant future. For 4 grand that thing better be half Gundam half Karaoke machine! I have seen pics of that before, but it was raw and had no detail work done. Can't wait to see what you do with that bad boy. Nice...I just ordered the Strike Noir and Strike Freedom MG! I'm hoping they both come with decals, because they are way too pretty for stickers.
