Yay! Actually had to explain baysplosions to a friend today. But on a relevant note, when are you planning on having drift up for sale?

Ah, well, now, with him, since I haven't put together a previous version, I want to paint him before I put him together. So, erm, once I've painted him. Leave it with me...

You might be able to free up that knee with a hot, soapy bath.

Heh, no worries. It will get done, it's just a case of me re-learning how to paint (since I've not painted anything for about, oooh, 21 years). :p

Well, that possibly would work, yes, if I hadn't tried to force his knee, and then snapped it off, like a complete oaf. :lol

I needed to order a second prototype anyway, though, to fix some issues with the sprue; that fixed version is the one that's on sale, and it's the one I'll be building. :)

LITERALLY just finished putting together my very own Rung, and I'm so happy with him. Can't wait to get someone decent to paint him up all purdy and have him hang out with Skids and Swerve.

I most certainly will. In the meantime, if I wanted to fill in the backs of his legs for example, what material would you recommend? I can probably get my hands on some Bondo or should I use an air-dry clay, or something to that effect?

Whatever you find easiest to work with, I reckon. The only recommendation that seems consistent across everyone is: clean the part before you start adding stuff. When I painted up Prime's fuel tanks, I just used a bowl of warm water with washing up liquid in it, and a toothbrush. Seemed to work well! :D

Rung is on his way so I've started thinking about paints. What's the best sort to use on the shapeways plastic? Everywhere I look I see gloss/Matt/Satin types but I'm a little lost in that regard. I don't want a 'shiny' finish so would matt or satin be the better one to use?

I painted up the fuel tanks for my Prime add-ons with Tamiya acrylics, and I've found that the textured nature of the plastic is going to make them look fairly matte anyway, to be honest (and that was using Titanium Silver, something that's supposed to be shiny, so I wouldn't expect a high gloss finish without using something like Future polish; Lakeland sell a version over here, although I haven't tried it yet).

Citadel paints I would think would come out matte.

Thanks for the advice, guys. Tamiya acrylics were the ones I was eyeing up so that's good to know.

Got my Rung yesterday and I'm pleasantly surprised at how well he came out. All his joints have just the right amount of friction.

Bloody nora, that orange is nice! Did you do it straight out the bottle (and if so, what orange is it), or did you mix them to get the right shade? I wants that orange on mine, it's vibrant as billy-o! :D

The orange and blue are sharpie, but the silver, gray, and yellow are acrylic.
Sharpies are great for coloring Shapeways' WSF and WSFP materials (with the exception of black and metallic sharpies, they don't come out very good once dry).
Using sharpie rather than paint comes with its own difficulties, though. I had to be extremely careful not to let the paint overlap the sharpie'd bits or else it would bleed through the orange.

Thanks very much, I shall bear that in mind. I want to get Prime finished and painted before I start on anything else, but that's definitely useful to know, thanks. :)

    Thanks very much. :D
