Can You Dig it? Dig It....Get It???? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I'll stop with the Spongebob references.  

This episode might be one of the best ones yet, it is the first animated appearance of fan favourite Jazz since 2009 with Transformers: Animated, Jazz is one of the those character every show that has him is usually better off with him in it.

This episode also marks the first appearance of Energon Cubes in RID. I actually thought at first it was the Allspark cube. I can't believe I made this mistake.

We cut to Russell and the Autobots watching a tv show about a motorcycle gang, they're are many comments from why don't the Motorcycles transform to the whole irony of how they all where the same kinds of jackets despite their non-conformity. They also see some people kissing on tv.

Sideswipe wanders around in the scrapyard and encounters an intruder and is defeated easily by who turns out to be fan favourite Autobot Jazz voiced by Arif S. Kinchen best known voice wise as Pierce Washington in the Saint Rows series and boy is his voice really cool as Jazz. He's already a close second for best Jazz voice after Phil LaMarr (TFA Jazz).

Jazz has his sound and light show system like he had in the G1 cartoon that is. He also had a retractable visor but he looks hideous without it, it looks generic and unlike Grimlock is just doesn't work without it. It sucks the toy won't have the visor. Seriously Jazz needs his visor man.

Jazz is here to follow up on the Alchemor distress signal that Fixit had sent, well it looks like it made it to Cybertron. Bumblebee and Jazz are old friends..though this brings up the question where Jazz was during the events of Prime...oh well it's not like it matters. Jazz offers to take everyone home to Cybertron but Bumblebee obviously says they can't because their mission isn't over yet.

Suddenly a whole pops up from the ground and it reveals the Decepticon of the week Ped voiced by Eddie Deezen (Mandark from Dexter's Lab) and I have to say he is heavily miscast, yes Ped is a lowly worm (figuratively and literally) but considering how bestial he looks and sort of acts he should have had a gruffer voice, if Eddie's voice was gruffer it'd work fine. Honestly he should have voiced a minicon instead, I feel he'd be a better fit instead. Ped then makes off with the Energon and burrows another hole.

The Autobots got after Ped and they split up with Sideswipe and Jazz as a team, Sideswipe complains about being held back and just wants to go and Jazz tells him to pace himself. Needless to say Sideswipe and Jazz make a great duo. Sideswipe and Jazz make it to Ped's lair first and we find out Ped's whole goal is to get all the Energon so everyone comes to him and he feels important because he sure has some self esteem problems.

Jazz tries the pretend to be on their side shtick that Sideswipe did with Thunderhoof and Sideswipe thought he was for real.....wow him of all people.  

The Autobots then set up a stasis pod trap for Ped under all of their Energon and some boxes that are painted that shade of blue unfortynatley Ped burrows underground the traincar the Autobots are sitting on and fall into a pit.

In the pit the Autobots trying to get out by standing on each others shoulders, Grimlock smooshes Fixit thinking that's what they meant...oh man Fixit is a total butt monkey this episode, he doesn't catch a break. As they all get on each other shoulders from biggest to smallest, Denny gets a crane to lift them out but it's not enough but Sideswipe uses the Autobots to jump from them and the sides of the hole and makes it out of their first...the rest of the Autobots combined weight is too much for the Construction vehicle and Strongarm and Grimlock fall off and are stuck in the hole.

Sideswipe decides to taunt Ped to get him in to the pod where he wants Bumblebee to activate it without hesitation however Jazz swoops in and helps Sideswipe subdue Ped they defeat Ped.

It's morning and Strongarm's finally out of the whole but Grimlock isn't....the cable broke.   Jazz promises to clear things out with the council and to come back and visit again. Jazz gives Sideswipe some advice on he should stop caring what others think of him and Strongarm comments that Sideswipe finally has a role model now.

So yeah this episode was awesome mostly because of Jazz and Sideswipe's character development and despite Ped's voice...I did like his design. Can You Dig It? Is one of the best episodes yet.

 

Ped's voice was pretty damn surprising. I imagined it to be kind of like Bulkhead's.

 

I agree the Ped's voice wasn't the best casting so far but Jazz was great in this episode especially with the sound system weapon and alt-mode.

 

I really enjoyed seeing Jazz again. His voice is just spot on too lol. I loved the bond that he and Sideswipe have formed. I also love the fact that Bumblebee and Jazz were besties. Fixit, poor poor poor Fixit gets no breaks in this one lol. Strongarm's "Why are they mashing their faces together?" made me laugh so hard lol. Grimlock in the end was funny. Dinobot stuck in the hole! Ped was cool but his voice just kills it for me. The Council is back on Cybertron as confirmed. Though I hope it's comprised of bots we already know. Jazz's advice to Sideswipe was touching   Nice to know that he'll be back sometime too.

 

I loved the use of Eddie for Ped's voice. People need to stop saying it was miscasting. It's an intentional trope, like the Undertaker in Suburban Commando. He's a huge intimidating badass who turns out to have an incredibly unintimidating voice. I think it was perfect for the character's mentality.

 

I think that the voice is perfect, because if other decepticons are mocking about him, his voice didn't help to stop him either.

Jazz was great! While I would've preferred Troy to voice Jazz again (especially since he was already in the show), this worked great too! Still smooth in his own way! Fingers crossed he'll be back soon again and join the main cast. Him and Sides together was a great combo.

 

Loved the episode.

My favorite part of how Jazz leaves? It's flat-out stated he'll come back once he's explained. Maybe even through Space Bridge! That'd be cool.

Dangit, now I'm picturing Jazz appearing in the S1 Finale through Spacebridge with Ironhide, Hound, Mirage, Prowl, and Trailcutter to help level the playing field.

 

Really good episode, welcome after last weeks. Lot of really funny moments, the face mashing comment and Fixit down the hole in particular. I liked the fake energon and the fact they didn't decide to blow up energon they desperately needed like they did all the time in Prime.

I am a bit annoyed about how Sideswipe was treated with more respect in his wannabe hero episode than Strongarm was, but that is more a criticism of the last episode not this one. I am pleased he is getting more character development because he's been a bit one dimensional so far.

 

soooo why didnt they use the bus that fell down the hole with them as a ladder or something?

 

Wow, this show started good and got better. Jazz was very awesome, I love his portrayal as a slightly more mature character, and I really hope he shows up again (I strongly think he will!) It's great that Sideswipe is getting more focus and development, and of course Fixit and Grimlock were great again! Even Strongarm wasn't annoying in this episode. In my opinion, one of the best yet.

 

I wondered that too, maybe it was too trashed? I mean they were all standing on it when it fell down the hole and it's just a human bus with I don't know a 100t of robot standing on it then it falls a hundred meters down a hole.

 

That sounds way too fanwanky to happen. I wouldn't mind Jazz with re-enforcement but I can't see all of them joining Team Bumblebee.

 

Not to mention it would just simply be overkill...

as for this ep - LOVED IT. loved hearing Mandark come out of Ped. Totally loved how they used that in his whole low self-esteem bit. Jazz was great too, i really had no issues. great ep.

 

I have just one question. What does that Decepticon's name "Ped" really mean? 'cuz I don't know how to translate it into Chinese...orz. Thx a lot!

I just saw the episode, and died laughing after I noticed Ped and Mandark have the same voice  

 

I think Ped may be the first Nerd Decepticon since Cybertron. He's one of my favorite cons so far in RID.

Jazz was pretty cool, but I prefer Animated Jazz's voice though.
