We're back with another gallery of the Robots in Disguise Warrior class figures, belatedly finishing up our photos of wave 1! Here for your enjoyment is Grimlock!

Grimlock is a Dinobot, so he transforms into a tyrannosaur, just like the original Grimlock. The transformation is pretty neatly executed though the dino arms just sort of hang off the back. The way the design is done gives Grimlock some size and presence. In the show, he's a bruiser who thinks with his fists, and the toy gives him an appropriately bulky robot mode. That said, Grimlock lacks an accessory for some reason, and his articulation is a little restricted.

We then come on to the two biggest flaws on this figure. The lesser of the two is that this Grimlock is actually quite a small toy. I'm not normally a stickler for scale, but to have the character who is "the big guy" on the show come out smaller than Bumblebee or Strongarm is a little jarring. Second are the elbow joints. They use a weird pseudo-ratchet with a little plastic block pushing against teeth in the arm. The plastic on the forearms is thin, though, and if the block gets caught the wrong way on the teeth, it will tear right through the forearms. It's a really bad design choice, one I've personally experienced as you're actually looking at my second Grimlock in this gallery - my first broke within about a week of opening him.

Owing to all the flaws, I have a hard time recommending this one. It's a pity because it is a decent looking design, and would otherwise be okay, were it not just for those elbows. Check out the gallery to see this toy and decide if the looks make up for the noted flaws.

If they don't give us a voyager or leader Grimmy it's custom the three step time for me.

I might pick this guy up... He looks like a decent toy, and it isn't a bad design... but the size just kills it for me... Hmm...

Really thinking of picking him up despite his flaws. Kind of wish he was a little bit bigger though. Voyager at least but at least we're getting a figure of him. Now if only we can get a few more warrior class Decepticons I'd really be happy

Somebody needs to mention the design flaw in the Warrior Class section in Grimlock (WFC)'s TFwiki page.

From what I understand that is not going to happen. This line is not supporting voyagers or leaders. If you want a big Grimlock you'll have to pick up the $20-25 three step changing, zero articulation one.

I have this and only picked it up on merits of design, and being a different take on Grimlock, but it is to me the cheapest feeling one out of the line.

It has some thin plastic that feels like it'll snap with just enough force at hinge points.

    Scale

Yeah, that is why I will be getting the 3-Step Grimlock for my son, so that they are to the correct scale.

Kinda sucks this line does not have a Voyager class. Considering we will have all these bots showing up as early as the first few episodes it is disappointing that we can't have a decent scale for them. Are we going to really have a tiny Underbite that looks like Steeljaw's pet dog?

I'm not recognizing the damage you mentioned, Sol Fury. Did you do some repair work or clean up the break at all? Does the breakage affect functionality?

I think he's saying it breaks so bad that there is no functionality left.

Gah! Should've read that more carefully--no wonder I'm not recognizing damage! What did the first one look like? Any pics of that possible?

I can snap a quick phone pic later on - it is pretty dreadful, zero tension in the arm joint and the lower arm is torn right open. I've seen pics from others who have stress marks on the part or even have had it to them, so I do not think it's just that I was phenomenally unlucky.

    EDIT: added pics

I touched my best friend's Grimlock, like, LITERALLY JUST A TOUCH, and the arm broke. There has to have been a better way to do that.

This is the first I'm hearing how fragile the figure is. Damn I was kind of looking forward to picking up this guy. :(

    :lolol

Maybe next year we'll get Voyager RID figures?

That photo of RID2 Grimlock with his G1 and RID1 counterparts, gives off a "family photo" vibe. It's like he's the offspring of them both designwise :lol  I love it.

All in all, I think Grimlock has a fairly good design. His dino arms are a little awkward since they tend to stick out of his robot mode, and I think he deserves to smile since he's not really a grim character. But otherwise he looks great.
