Wouldn't be a bad idea. Less competition would probably mean better numbers, because unless they cater to China again TF5 has quite a chance of flopping.

While I wouldn't be opposed to the films coming out during a different time of the year, it's not going to flop. Make less money in the US and China? Definitely possible, but it won't flop. 47 Ronin, Jupiter Ascending, Waterworld, and John Carter are flops. Transformers has brand recognition and is merely too popular internationally to flop in the near future. However, I do think that after 5 TF 6 should be the last film in this continuity.

2016 IS the target for TF5 and preproduction has begun. As of right now, 2017 is off the table and there's no reason to discuss it as it spreads misinformation. If Hasbro or Paramount come forward and speak of delays, then we can talk about '17.

That's what I'm expecting after the last movie. And probably I will be disappointed.

How about somebody else directs TF5 and Bay keeps his grimy frat boy hands off the franchise?

Why is everybody sooo adamant that it's going to be summer 2016? It's not happening, people. When the other movies were a year away from release we knew quite a bit. We were getting a lot of casting news at this point, some filming locations, casting calls for extras, etc. I believe they started filming the last week of April or the first week of May for TF4. It's already March and we know nothing. 2016 is off the table unless they're aiming for a fall or Christmas release and that's very unlikely to happen. It'll be 2017.
Edit- I actually went back to see when we started getting interviews from Bay and casting news and it was mid to late 2012. Further proof that TF5 isn't set for 2016.

‘Star Trek 3′, ‘Transformers 5′ & More Planned for 2016 Release
    Transformers 5 Confirmed For 2016 - CINEMABLEND

Remember, RotF, GI Joe Rise of Cobra AND Retaliation, AND X-Men First Class had EXTREMELY short production cycles. and still made summer releases the next year. GI JOe Retaliation in particular went from "stalled" to having a new director, new cast and filming within six months.

"What we know" is irrelevant as movie studios are under NO obligation to keep the fans up to speed on how a movie is progressing in development.

Paramount WANTS a new TF film and new GI Joe film and new Star Trek film out next year. We'll pretty well know by SDCC is any of them are going to make it.

I'm not saying it is a sure thing, not saying TF5 won't be bumped back, but if they really want to make that date, they certainly can still do so at this stage.

I really don't see it happening. Plus those websites with the articles are not the best sources. I'd love for it to be next year but if it was next year at least a director would've been announced because Bay already has a movie he's going to be working on. Yes, they have no obligation to let people in on anything, but these are big productions so there would at least be some rumors at this point due to leaks.

Wait, wasn't it confirmed that Bay isn't coming back for Transformers 5?

Or am I wrong? I thought it was confirmed months ago...

Here's what HAS been confirmed (and reported here!):

Hasbro and Paramount have been aiming for a 2016 release date.

Pre-production has already begun, we heard this directly from Hasbro at Toy Fair. (TWO weeks ago!)

It's been reported for quite some time that 2016 is the target date. (Month/day/year already confirmed iirc.)

Bay has officially stepped down as director. (He hadn't done that before. Always said this one was his last, or this one was, but this time he actually has stepped down.)

Wahlberg has already said he's ready to go whenever they need him to come in and film and that he signed on for THREE movies.

Everyone forgets one very important thing: The major work is already done. The robot renders are, and have been, completed since before AOE was released. All they have to do is fire up the computer farm and animate them. Bay worked hard and traveled all over the world to get scenery and cheap locations, that took extra time. Whoever the new guy (or woman, who knows?) is, they just have to get the cast on set, film them and then add in the robots. Human scenes can be done in months, not years.

Bay released all three of the original trilogy within 2 years of each other. With only months spent with the actors and on location. You think Michael Bay is the only director that can work in a short time frame? Ridiculous. Some movies have been made in less than 30 days. THIRTY DAYS.

Am I absolutely guaranteed that the next one will be out in 2016? Of course not, things happen and change all the time, that's life, that's how it works, but based on previous track records? It's entirely possible the next one will be out in 2016. I'd actually be willing to bank on it because of the past track record. To automatically say it's going to be '17 is just as crazy as you think '16 is. Neither of us know for sure and to throw it around as absolute fact makes us all look like assholes because we're assuming.

The big difference is? Several official and unofficial sources have 2016 as the target date, so who am I to say Hasbro and Paramount are wrong? If they say 2016, I believe them. If they change it, something came up.

At least look at the facts before outright going around all "LALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE SOUND OF IT BEING 2017!" when the facts (as of right now) tell us 2016.

Kind of makes you wonder if Paramount isn't putting almost all it's eggs into the 2016 basket. It's not like Paramount has a huge stable of franchises right now so a bad GI Joe movie, a bad Transformers film, and a bad Star Trek film isn't going to leave them all that many bad movies for 2017.

Give me an official statement and then I will concede.

We don't know when it did. It could've actually started two weeks ago for all we know. Scripts take quite a long time to write.

Not really. It's been mentioned but nothing really confirmed. Although, like I said, if you show me an official statement I'll take it back.

Nope, nope, nope. He has not once said, "I am not directing Transformers 5." He just said he was looking at some different projects. He did Pain and Gain before TF4, so what's to stop him from doing that again? And yes he has technically stepped down before when he said that he will definitely not be making a Transformers 4.

Yes, he is signed on for 5 and 6. But the question is when they need him.

That's always last. They would be focusing on filming and would need to do it very soon.
    Usually about 7 months.

Considering a new director would need to adjust, it would take a bit longer since Bay had a scheduled, working system. And the reason they had a 2 year gap was because they literally started right after the previous film was released.

    Yes, usually romantic comedies.

And as you can tell, I am quite in the opposite mindset lol.

    Mmmmm

(Hope I don't come across as a jerk or anything but I'm currently 99.9% sure it's 2017+ based off of the production schedules of previous films.)
