Why do the Cons have fangs (are they carnivores or something?) and/or drool/spit everywhere when they talk? Sometimes it's better not to ask such nitpicky questions, turn your brain off, and enjoy the purty special effects and 'sploshuns. :D

Can't believe it took people this long to notice that. I noticed it in TF07 when Prime gives the "you risked your life to protect the cube speech" to Sam.

I don't think any of the other bots have that effect though.

Yeah, they always reminded me of piano keys, and I think it's hella awesome.

They removed that, and many other, sound effects in ROTF and DOTM, so I was happily surprised it was back in AOE.

I remember it from the first film, must admit I hadn't noticed it was missing from the other two or realised that it was back in AoE.

For real. Shoot, I noticed it literally the first time he spoke in the alley way.

Same here. I thought it was a spinning ball or something. I did notice this on my own a few weeks ago when the first movie was on TV and pointed out it out to my girlfriend, she thought it was cute. It is a fun little detail.

I noticed this the in the first and the fourth movie. I didn't notice that it actually displayed the sound frequencies in his speech.

I think I noticed it during the first movie, just didn't know what it was until OP pointed out that it moved whenever he spoke, as though it was vibrating to sounds like what some radios do on their screens, jumping at the slightest sound of music.

    That's actually pretty clever!

Go back to 1984 and ask Hasbro and ask that question :p

if they didn't have mouths or jaws in the film, there would be more of an uproar about these films than there already is xD

Reminds me of a music box drum mechanism.

They took out a lot of the subtle sound cues (or made them much much more subtle), as well as the more 'booming', hollow voices all characters had in movie 1.

    Time constraints maybe?

Optimus isn't the only one with this. In the first movie, it's noticeable on Ratchet when He's talking about what Megatron will do with the Allspark. And you can see it on Ironhide when he shouts "it's Starscream"!

Since TF07 I've found it interesting that most Decepticons had naturally occurring mouths and teeth while many of the Autobots didn't, but had vocal processors instead. It's too bad that the movies haven't done anything to explain this.
