Aurora's better than Grindrod in my opinion. On mine, the tightness is pretty much right. Not too tight but definitely not loose.

Nothing will ever beat Grindrod, in my opinion... but Aurora comes awfully close!

Fantastic figure. I got mine from Tony at chimungmung.com, and there are no loose joints, paint flaws, or scratches, much less any leg holes. After the relative disappointment of Hardbone (cheaper plastic, some floppy joints, and a Headmaster with two right arms), I'm pleased to announce no QC issues at all here.

I ordered mine from BBTS and didn't have the leg issue.

The only reason that Aurora beats Grind Rod for me is Grind Rod's vehicle windows are tremendously tricky to transform into alt mode for me - getting everything to fit takes a lot of bending and squeezing and hoping things slide into place. Aurora's legs are also tricky, with those long-ass panel-tabs, but I find those easier to manipulate. If both of those issues didn't exist, I'd probably put Grind Rod on top, but just barely. I love the green plastic they used - it reflects light in almost a yellowy-green color, and I dig the headsculpt.

Of course, Aurora is still awesome. The white, blue and black looks great on him, and while the windshield-chest is plain, it really works, I think. I did have an issue with mine, which may not be the case for everyone, but flipping his head down to transform to alt mode was SO RIDICULOUSLY TIGHT that I think I may have actually bent the screw or loosened the threads... I ended up taking off the head and filing down the corners his head has to move around, but when I put his head back on, it was loose. Still is. Can't tighten the screw anymore - unless I want to strip it.

Oh yeah, and Aurora has better lightpiping. Which is actually awesome with his... ahem... searchlights on his collar area.

Bring on Trace. I can't wait.

Is there a reason why this guy is on discount everywhere? Did he not sell or are there problems? Some people reported too tight of joints like Grindrod but I never got around to picking either of them up, yet now am interested.

Possibly overordered as a result of Grind Rod kind of coming out of nowhere(?)

Even as a standlone, It's a solid figure with no particular issues...and if you have any, BBTS for one would probably fix it for you.

Worst case scenario, you don't like it, you'll prob have no trouble moving it on with the last three Throttlebots due.

Grind Rod sold extremely well and BBTS tried to corner the market on the next figure with terrible result (didn't dissuade them from repeating the trick with Warbotron). Out of the 3 released. this one's my favorite.

Aurora is a decent figure but some of his joints are a tad looser than I'd like. He takes a backseat to the wonderful Grindrod.

I like him, but im afraid to swivel his joings, has anyone else noticed the stress marks on the swivel pieces right around where the swivel knob starts extending? Talked about it on the main combiner thread and the person who replied to me said he wouldn't risk trying to twist further.

Thanks guys. They were always on my backlog but I always had more pressing things to get and Grind Rod disappeared everywhere. Thus my interest in the set fell off a cliff. Looking around after seeing the new ones I just happened to notice TFS, BBTS, and Robotkingdom all have him on clearance, and apparently have had him like that for some time. Figured I'd ask when the thread got bumped before jumping on it.

Unfortunately unless they reissue Grind Rod the savings on Aurora isn't going to help much if you want the set.

Yeah it was you guys who made me a little skeptical. No one else in the thread from the digging I did seem to have that problem though.

Mine is still in great shape structurally but does have some paint chipping around the black window bits as a result of me transforming it.
