Exactly! I guess because Transformers is better known than M.A.S.K.

    But it's totally MASK.

Ah if this is the one that Adam was talking about on Tested it has nothing to do with "Transformers". It about a guy whom gets stranded in the desert when his car breaks down, and then has to use the parts of the car to build a motorcycle to make it out.

Edit: TheBigBad beat me to it.

Why choose a cartoon or more fittingly a movie series, that is legendary for its defiance of physics?

Well, it would depend on what exact myth they want to bust...

EDIT: Okay, saw the post above. Yeah, Tony Stark is easier to bust than Transformers.

that sounds...really stupid, a couple of idiots with a TV show are going to try and recreate fictional cartoon alien robots. obviously they are trying anything to stay on TV

Why's the episode called "Transformers" then?

I'm pretty sure those "idiots" have more schooling and training in the fields of engineering and Hollywood special effects than most of us here combined.

Agreed. There are only so many myths and urban legends to go around, and the show's been on for years. Still, there's a lot of potential for new episodes based on what we see in TV and movies, which happens to work out since there are a lot of myths and urban legends that get propagated by pop culture and on television and the silver screen. It can be become less about the science and more about seeing Jamie and Adam get their geek on when they're busting Star Wars or Indiana Jones myths, but I still find it fun and entertaining, personally. If Mythbusters continue to make it fun and entertaining, then it's done its job successfully. Besides, the shift in direction does take full advantage of their collective experience as special effects guys working in the television and film industries.

As far as the "hip direction" goes, I don't see that happening at all except for the opening, which does seem slicker and better produced. But everything else about the show remains the same goofy Jamie and Adam dynamic we've come to know and love for years, sans the trio (Grant, Kari, and Tori), of course, but that was most likely out their hands (with the Discovery Channel suits calling the shots with the changes in casting).

Meaning they are examining people who take one object and transform it into something else... Not Autobots and Decepticons.

I wonder if the Mythbusters are aware that TFA Wheeljack is a homage to them?

Actually many of the first two have been produced as segments and then shit-canned. Anything to do with sexuality falls under that hammer too. They've shown excerpts from the bin before.

Yea, Discovery really slowed down promoting them for awhile, and the last season or two was less-good as it skipped over a lot of the lab and build work to just get to the explosions and stuff. But the new season is back to basics, lotsa science and showing how they build what they build (though, unfortunately, the Build Team left. Money matters apparently).

Dude, Transformers isn't grounded in reality at all... There's nothing to tackle... We know it's all way out there, and that's why we love it. Or at least that's why I do.
