I'd honestly like to see a Manipulator/Warlord who's secretly a psychopath, and then maybe Starscream as a Golden Age villain,

I like him being a psychopath, just because it's so interesting to me how they manage to function with someone like Galvatron as a leader.

I ultimately went with warlord but I do have a huge appreciation for the manipulator type.

Tough call between "golden age" and "manipulator." That's why I always thought CyKill was such a good villain.

Yep...but a Megatron like that would always win. And we can't have that, can we?

I'd say animated and by season three beast wars megatrons were a good combination of the two. And they both did almost win, so I guess you have a point.

"Golden Age." I would prefer Galvatron as being the rest: less-refined, but more awesome.

Warlord Megatron would be perfect, but not in the scenarios he's been used in. In fact, I would hazard to say Warlord Megatron would be used at his best if he wasn't the everyday episode villain the Autobots dealt with.

Which is to say in a way how the new series is handling it, in a way-- Optimus and Megatron simply operate on a scale several tiers higher than the series regulars-- that we may occasionally see them once in a while, but only when the stakes call for it. In other words, Warlord Megatron works at his best when you see him the least.

The much-maligned Armada tried its hand with this sort of methodology with Thrust and Tidal Wave-- by having the Autobots do a double take upon hearing that they were coming and recount how they were powerful warlords in their own right (whether they lived up to that was another thing entirely; the amount Tidal Wave eventually fell is almost comical while Thrust at least got to play the Crazy Starscream card).

We haven't gotten a series like that yet, and the thought is intriguing.

Definitely Manipulator. With fingers in so many pies, intricate webs of intelligence, and balancing treasonous and treacherous sections of his own faction with a definite philosophy and long term plan that absolutely no one can get in the way of.

But he should also be pretty handy when it comes to a bit of brawl, and not afraid to get anyones Energon on his hands.

I like the Warlord style just fine, but 'Raaargh! Kill everyone who stands in my way!' gets a bit old after a while.

Warlord-I especially love TFP Megatron's background as a gladiator and that he actually looks fearsome.

Gladiator Megatron is best Megatron (DW, IDW, TFP) so warlord gets my vote. We have enough cons who do a better job of filling out the other roles imo.

Transformers Prime initially had that down. They spent the whole 1st episode building him up, having him only turn up at the end. For the next 4 episodes, he was actually working towards a single goal all, making it look like he was actually more intelligent than G1 Megatron.

Afterwords, he was written out of the series for 6 episodes, giving Starscream a chance to shine. Then there was a 2 parter dedicated to his return. Even when I liked Prime, I thought Out of His Head was boring when rewatching it, but for the initial viewing, I was so excited simply by the idea of Megatron returning.

After his big return, he was just kinda there. There was nothing special about his appearances, and his permanent command revealed that he, and the writers, had no plan. He was as random as G1 Megatron. It was even more annoying that they tried to continue using him sparingly, but with no explanation to his absence, making him look lazy.

I prefer Nova Prime to be the manipulator (in my universe he's the main bad guy who's just pulling the strings for everything to fall into his plan to become God/Primus).
Megatron was more like a noble man who believes Cybertron is best ruled as a Monarchy. Galvatron is similar (as Megatron's memories were downloaded into him as a way to keep Megatron "alive"), but believes that Cybertron should be ruled by an Empire. Both of them are (were) noble men who believe that they're right, and not evil.

I want to see the Rise of the Decepticons in a way as shown in Dragon Age: Inquisition, if you don't mind me sounding so cliche and making the game sound overhyped... I just like the game. Anyway, the analogy goes like this: Megatron in the middle as the catalyst, an inner cadre of advisers surrounding him (Soundwave as spymaster, Starscream as the connections, Onslaught as coordinator, Swindle as requisitions... this Dragon Age analogy is going too far), and personal friends and followers of Megatron from the arena. They all work together to get the ball rolling, attracting followers out of reputation, them reading Megatron's political writings, recruiting events, friends talking to friends, the WHOLE nine yards.

I want to elaborate on this real bad, but it really isn't the sort of stuff that gets attention on the Fan Fiction Forum.
