My brother in law is on his fifth 360. He treats the system like a newborn baby, and its well ventilated and in a dust-free environment. "some issues" is really downplaying the problem. and they havent been "pretty good" about anything. he had to pay to ship all the messed up 360's back to MS, they refused to send him a shipping box. There have been no changes to the 360 hardware yet. the systems on store shelves right now are just as prone to breaking down as the launch units.
While the 360 has had its fair share of problems, MS has mostly been good about it. I'v eheard many more good stories about the customer service then I have bad stories like yours. I myself am on my 3rd 360, and I havnt had to pay a thing to get it repaired both times. Neither have 2 other people I know that have had the same problem, and anyone I talked to when I used to sell the things.
I had two 360s tank on me. But Microsoft's customer service has been great. I haven't paid a cent to have them repaired and they even gave me a free game for my troubles. The reason why they are no longer shipping boxes (coffins) to be repaired is because they also used those boxes to ship them back after repair. Thieves were getting hold of those boxes. Nondescript boxes are an attempt at a disguise for the cargo.
Truth if they're selling them to people that mistreat consoles. I had a friend that broke PS2's left and right (he went thru 1 every few months) and kept bringing them back saying it was defective. Personally I've heard nothing about defective PS3s, cept maybe the ones they leave on 24 hours in a glass display case, but that would kill any console.
Yeah, some are little known games like God of War, smartass. I'd take that over Halo anyday. Valkysas beat me to it.
Opinions right there. God of War is likely what you're talking about, but Gran Turismo has a huge following too. Killzone does have a lot of fans, but I wouldnt consider it nearly as large as the other two. And how many great first party games are out for the Wii right now? Zelda is the first one that comes to mind, then Wario. The PS3 has Resistance, and Motorstorm for 2 big first party games. Really, why post in the thread if you're just going to go LOLSONY when we're not even talking about games at all?
The viability of the 'first party' route, and the strength of each company and their first party, is a valid discussion. Just obviously not for this thread. Anyhow, the sales part is probably true. The defect part probably isn't. The 360 seems to have way more problems in that area. Though one would wonder how high the percentage is for finding a female fanboy in a TRU trying to overexaggerate problems for a (any) game console. I'll have to go with the 'overheard someone else's exaggerations' camp.
PS3 has a 50% failure rate? LOLZ! I'm going to spread this fact ALL OVER TEH INTERWEB! Seriously though, all I've ever heard is that Sonys reliability on Cell chip production isn't 100%, hence the relatively slow output of PS3's. People are on their 5th 360's? Wow... I think I might set up a little fridge for my 360 to sit in... I dunno, convert a beer cabinet or something. Scary... Actually, thats not a bad idea... the controllers are wireless after all...just buy a cheap drinks cabinet that will store a 360, drill some holes in the back for the power and AV cables (then fill the excess) and BAM! 360 fridge... I wonder if that could work?
lol - bet you try it lol. i head the problem is how they solder the connections on the HD, apparently it some time saving method using smalls balls of solder whicht hey then heat en masse - but it dosnt give great durability. some have apparently re soldered these connections somehow and its been fine - i dont know how or if thats true though so if any one can correct me on that feel free
Beer cabinets are at least £80. Boo! But now I'm wondering how easy it would be for me to convert my external 360 fan cooler to chilled air... all I need is a decent heat exchange... and compressor... and coolant... But for something so small, maybe water/air cooled heat sinks... lol, I think I'm seriously going to look at this.
I can read just fine thank you, Petunia. I DO know what I am talking about as well, considering Nintendo always has a decent 1st party lineup, but sometimes has huge problems pulling in 3rd party support. Sony traditionaly has just the opposite problem, hence the PSX and PS2 HUGE library of games. I guess you got the head in ass equation backwards there Mildred. Also, I don't see anywhere that reports a significant, let alone 50%, defect rate in the PS3. That's just preposterous.
I don't know about any other systems, but my kids went through 5 game cubes in the course of two years. I know at least three of them up and died for no reason.
dont forget the flux capacitors . . . just buy a cool box and a shed load of the freeze bricks to go in it lol
