femmebotfangirl, linking all the facts in the world probably won't do you any good when you dole out said facts with a healthy dose of aggressive sarcasm in a confrontational manner (interspersed with the word "fucking" every other sentence for emphasis, I might add) rather than conversing calmly with others in the same fandom.

People tend to just tune you out if not outright ignore what you have to say at that point. In essence, you're alienating folks rather than converting them to your cause. (Maybe you don't care, or maybe that's what you're aiming for, but that seems to be impression you're giving off to me.)

I'll be the first to say I'm guilty of this when confronting folks with racist attitudes regarding representation of Asians in the mythos (ie. Drift) and the Asian fandom when it comes to the TF franchise. Everything you said regarding female characters and the female fandom can easily be applied to minority characters and the minority fandom, where the "normal baseline" for both characters and the catered-to market is considered (at least by Hasbro) as being both white and male.

Sometimes you have to pick and choose your battles. This doesn't seem like one of those battles to me though you seem to think otherwise. Haranguing folks in the fandom seems less conducive to the cause of fair and equal representation than say, starting polls and petitions to gauge interest in your cause, and directing your concerns directly to Hasbro. But that's just me.

Back to the topic at hand, lots of neat choices for the voice actors in this series!

Exactly, and that is how it is with most girl aimed settings. Most boy aimed settings are much more like Transformers. Most Disney princess films have more male characters than female. Monster high has a gender ratio of 2/7 male/female in the main cast, better than female representation in RiD and TFP. Barbie's current tv show has 2/10 or so from memory as well.

I literally give no fucks. It's not my responsibility to combat systemic cultural misogyny by being polite and not upsetting boys feelings, when those boys are defending a status quo that actively services them at the expense of girls and women.

If you give no fucks, then why expect others to give any? They'll just return the favor.

Because those people reading this who are thoughtful, rational people should be able to see that it is unacceptable to treat female representation as an afterthought, however aggressively the facts are presented. Why should I care about the opinion of someone who is more concerned about how the facts are presented rather than how women are treated by the corporate entertainment media? I mean if someone is sitting there reading this thinking 'Sure, the way women are woefully under represented and poorly characterised in the media is terrile, but damnit that Femmebotfangirl swears too much so I'm going to ginore' then they really don't care about the issue at all.

This gets more off-topic than the Unpopular Opinions thread.

Who asks for an Optimus and Megatron-free series? That's just ridiculous. This show looks to be worse than Animated was.

In the show's defense, Optimus is dead and Megatron flew to the stars.

At this point Thunderhoof better be getting a Warrior/Deluxe class figure. I would love a Voyager, but I'll take what I can get. I also hope that the Minicons get figures at some point too. I mentioned this in another thread, but maybe they could do a set of them together. There's at least three of them now.

Good cast but the one that caught my eye the most was Frank Stallone. Frank... Stallone.

My time watching "The Smoking Gun Presents: World's Dummest..." has be freakin' ecstatic over this.

Good job, casting director. If anything, I'll at least look forward to the voice acting until the show warms up on me.

Assuming that your "my way or the highway" approach even works to convince people of your point of view, how exactly does this change the status quo? Unless Hasbro is reading these forums right now and suddenly have a change of heart, that is.

On second thought, it's best not to answer that since this is getting way off-topic.

Back on topic, I was kinda expecting Ted McGinley to voice a Bot or Con but I suppose the Danny/Denny character is just as good. A junkyard operator does open up some possibilities for plot hooks though, similar to Cade Yeager being an inventor.

    Slipstream as an Autobot? What?

I'm glad Chop Shop is finally appearing in Transformers media.

Really Eric Bauza's always wanted to voice Drift and since TFA too? Wait so does that mean he's a fan of the franchise too?

Either way I'm even more excited and it's perfect because not too long ago I thought he'd make a great Drift. He's currently the voice I use to read for Drift in MTMTE.

Ok, so I reread my posts and I apologize if I sounded like a sexist pig. I'm really not. At Botcon 2008 we were told that the adult fans only make up less than 10% of sales. I'm not sure what the number is, but if 40% of adult Transformers fans are female, then that's only about 4% of sales. Also being a fan doesn't mean you're buying the toys either, so that 4% is only if all 40% of female fans are buying toys. So it's a really low number that Hasbro really shouldn't be catering to as it would be financial suicide. They need to cater to those young boys.

I don't have true numbers. I don't have access to charts and graphs sales estimates based on anything. I'm just going by what little info we have been told by Hasbro reps in the past.

Now I need to see what my wife is gonna make me for dinner... :D

(Kidding.. I do most of the cooking at home)

So anywho, it looks like we're gonna have a static cast at first, and a "Decepticon of the day" type thing... Hopefully there's an overarching story that gathers up some of these cons...

For some reason when I saw this thread, I thought Shout Factory was going to redub the first RiD series. I can't help but think naming this new show RiD is a kick to the old show's nuts

Ooooh oooh! Me! I asked for that. a lot. Cause good lord has Optimus gotten stale in the last few years. S'why they were so minimal in the first year of the phase 2 comics.

If this show was animated levels of good...well we'll see.

I can't say I completely agree. While Transformers was intended for boys, and is still marketed mostly for boys, it could be marketed towards girls to an extent.

You do hit the nail on the head when it comes to MLP and LPS though.

It's not marketed toward girls though. When I was growing up in the 80's, I had tons of He-Man figures. Then She-Ra came out and my sister got those. Same continuity, different toy lines. She-Ra had a much better show but probably because Hordak's cronies were much cooler than Skeletor's.

Maybe they could have a line of Transformers aimed at girls, someday. *shrug*

I wouldn't say females are as under represented as they once were. In Transformers at least, we've gotten four new females characters in toy form in one year. Their are females in the new show, so that's a start. James Roberts has shown Nautica to be a strong female lead, so there's that.

That's what got me into the franchise when I was kid.

    Also, hello. Welcome to TFW2005.
