I'm curious about the two red little bots. It seems they become the armguards for Drift- maybe they are minicons? At any rate, love the new bearded look for Drift-sama.  

She is just cupping a feel.  

 

Indeed. Colors are closer to Bludgeon than Drift as well. Course, they could be shots of him in his Decepticon form... I mean he does look kind of like a cartoon villain turned samurai.

 

I'm still not digging Drift's design and colour scheme but I am looking forward to this show. And then I saw the Jazz Tumblr post this morning and got even more excited! I hope this means we'll get to see more of an esemble cast, maybe sneak in some more comic cameos.

I still want an IDW animated series for us grown-ups.

 

So I just read through the whole thread and realised that there is a disturbing lack of coherency as far as the English language is concerned. I realise that not everyone's first language is English, but come on, guys; some of that spelling and grammar is atrocious.

Anyway, that aside, I've now seen multiple times that this is apparently being shown in China already. Considering it's subtitled in Chinese, I would assume the audio is in English. So uh.... can anyone give me the full story on what's going on, or do I have to wade through the forums to find an answer (which I am going to do right now anyway)?

 

Is it just me or does it feel like Hasbro took the idea for "badass comic book Drift" and just bent it over a barrel and showed it the 50 states???

It's like they saw the combo (past decepticon + sword handler + Silvia alt mode) and automatically thought "this could be the perfect stereotype for a japanese autobot".... While most of the fandom sees comic book Drift as a swordweilding BW Dinobot with a car alt mode...

Drift as extreme samurai-bot. Shiny happy 'bots cradling and/or tickling one another. Grimlock smiling with a Bulkheadish, comic-relief, strong-guy way about him. Grimlock SMILING.

I'm sure this will be super-popular with the kids and anyone way more into anime and manga than I am (interest level: zero), but though TF: Prime brought me back to the tv series for a brief time, I just don't think this new iteration has the right balance of elements for my tastes.

I suppose I'm a G1 fan through and through, in that I mean that yes, though the original G1 series was for kids, had it's goofy moments, portrayed itself as less silly than it actually was, etc., the fact remains...

It came out in '84. I was 9 years old (technically 8). I grew up. My version of the Transformers grew up with me (the original movie, the Marvel comics, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Devil's Due comics, TF: Prime, and now IDW). And it fit! When Megatron killed Ironhide and uttered one of the most dismissive and cruelest lines ever--"Such heroic nonsense"--I was sad, but I didn't blink, the act fit the character.

Can I imagine this latest version--a pseudo cgi return to the TF: Animated style--leveling a fusion cannon with incredulous malice and a bad-ass line at the head of a dying hero and firing?

Nope.

It has room to go a bit darker, but not that dark.

I hope the kids love it (and anyone else for that matter), but even more I hope there's a version in the works to mature alongside those growing kids. That's what forged a legion of pushing 40 fans. Here's hoping Hasbro can see thirty (more) years down the line and that today's kids will eventually be all grown up (and hopefully still TF fans).

It's a cartoon about talking robots and has taken a less serious tone compared to the prior TFP series, they can do whatever they feel like  

And c'mon, Optimus apparently comes back so Cliffjumper isn't out of the question.

You and I both, I like the design already.
