Recently caught up with a mate from years and years ago, and he wants to buy a Wii U. I worked a little retail magic and I've got him a Wii U MK8 Premium Pack down from $429 to $305. He hasn't played much games since the Wii a few years ago, and he's only picking up one other game with the console next week, and personally, I can't recommend just a single other game to pick up so if you guys would like to leave your choice of your favourite Wii U game and why, that'd be great. Also, I should mention, yes, it is 2014, but he doesn't have WiFi. So no eShop for him.
If you can find it, Arkham City Armored Edition. AC itself is an amazing game, and it makes use of the Wii U gamepad.
Haven't even turned mine on for probably over a year. I'm patiently waiting the new Zelda that they're working on.
My favorite Wii U game is Hyrule Warriors, but I've always been a huge fan of the musou series and I'm well aware it isn't for everyone. The Wii U also has the most complete version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2. As 009 said, Arkham City is dope. Arkham Origins is less dope, but still pretty good.
DK Tropical Freeze, Rayman Legends, or Mario 3D World. Good for both single and multiplayer with tons of content.
I don't know your friends taste, so I'll recommend three games. - Bayonetta 2 : Recommend him this game if he likes action games. Without a doubt this is among the top three action games of all time as they perfected all the flaws in the original game. The combat is so smooth and the enemies and bosses provide a great challenge. It has great length and a lot of replayability. Plus it provides great value as you get the original game along with it. - Super Mario 3D World : Recommend him this game is he likes platformers. EAD went all out and created one of the best obstacle courses in the history of 3D platformers. This game feels like it came from an alternate universe where Nintendo developed a 3D sequel to Super Mario Bros 3 instead of Mario 64. Might be easy at first but by world 3 the game goes crazy with the levels and ideas. - Pikmin 3 : Recommend him this game if he wants something different. While it might seem like it belongs in the strategy genre Pikmin plays like nothing else and has a great mix of strategy, survivor and action.
Is your friend a scrub at videogames? If the answer is no: Has a few flaws, but the game is incredibly awesome. NeoGAF raves about it for good reason. The combat is sublime, the game does not hold your hand, and it's all in a attractive package that is just pure fun. It's also a fairly lengthy game that always manages to escalate itself up until the very end. A solid mix of main enemies to fight, and some of the bossest boss battles that gaming has to offer. Plus the music in this game is some of the hypest of all time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_moHXjH7pc And if anyone gets lost in figuring out how to play this game, you can just go over this series of tutorials to show you what's going on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdHbPXNJvVE
Since he already owns Mario kart 8 I will suggest super Mario 3d world. If he hasn't really been into games for a while I think it is good to start him out with something simple and im sure he has played a Mario before.
