Interesting idea! That's about the only way I can think of they could find to re-use a hypothetical Nosecone, as an Energon Prime homage. I'd be down for that.

P.S. Regarding Alpha Bravo, I like that the way the windshields end up his feet (and the shape of the feet) makes it look like he's wearing spats.

 

I sure am and ole alpha bravo is an awesome figure and a excellent add on character he tells me bruticus is on the way .for people who don't like him buy an extra jet or wait for the 3p or tfcc exclusive

As for Swindle... Darn sure Off-Road is meant to double as him:


So it's probably safe to say we'll be seeing a new Bruticus, and possibly Defensor.

That aside... honestly he's a nice combiner deluxe, IMHO. The problem him is that Superion was one of the combiner sets where the team theme was very constant, both in theme and in chosen alt mode... he breaks the alt mode consistency. Course, I'm sure 3rd Party folks will retool a replacement for Alpha Bravo (as well as upgrade the Combiners) in the near future.

 

Good job, but for vortex I would add red squares to his chest.

 

Could this be remolded into a space shuttle? Knowing Hasbro its possible, it has some similarities, but I'd rather Blast Off have a proper new mold. It would be kinda ridiculous to have a helicopter share the same mold as a space shuttle on the same team.

Offroad's mold looks more like Ruckus than Swindle but its a possibility too. Hasbro have been screwing up the traditional heads here so Swindle may not even have a new head if he is repainted from Offroad.

AB looks pretty good however, that being said he looks so much better as Vortex! I am extremely happy to see the combiners coming out.... not feeling what its going to cost... but I still have my G1 Defensor and G1 Superion so very excited to be able to put them next to one another. Just worried the way they are being released that its going to be difficult to find them.

defeats the whole purpose of buying one combiner limb just for collection's sake..

I think I have a fairly good idea about how this will play out.

Alpha Bravo (Slingshot) retooled for: Vortex/Blast-Off and Blades.
Offroad retooled for: Swindle.

Drag Strip = Mirage
Dead End = Jazz
Breakdown = Sideswipe and possibly a deluxe Windcharger.

Maybe...

 

On the topic of the whole Vortex/Blast Off retools.
These figures all share the same Core mold, everything else is just worked around it.
All the Aerialbots have different jets as their alt modes despite having the same mold.
(Minor retooling can do a lot.)

I 100% Vortex will be an unchanged version of this, Blades too.
But if Blast Off was a retool, you could easily just use his legs (the front end)
And remold the back half of an Aerial bot to have a Space Shuttle.

I think Hasbro will just repaint an Aerialbot, And the Windows on the side of AB are for Blades deco of this mold.

You see, I **WANT** to like Superion. I actually really do, truth be told. It's got the look and, to the love of my nostalgia boner, the skinny proportions of the G1 toy. It's awesome.

However, what's not awesome is Alpha Bravo. I don't read IDW. I don't really care for IDW, so I have no love for Alpha Bravo as a concept or character.

I wouldn't be nearly as upset if we had a choice between Alpha Bravo and Slingshot somehow. I don't want to be shoehorned into IDW just because it's IDW. Transformers is more than just that series.

But I'm also not super mad. Yeah, I hate Alpha Bravo but on the other hand 3rd Party is providing a Slingshot. Doesn't mean I can't hate on this helicopter bastard. He ain't no Aerialbot in my book and he never will.

As it stands if Hasbro is gonna keep doing fucked up members of each combiner team then I'm just ultimately going to skip Combiner Wars after I get Superion. I don't want stupid ass characters who never were part of the team suddenly part of the team. That isn't the version of these combiner teams I want. I'm trying to give Hasbro a chance, to give them the benefit of a doubt with these new combiners but things like this make it hard for me to do that.

If you have the kayabi kit for Vortex/Blast off, it is a reverse and a flip over. They both share the same bot mode.

 

Looks too much like Vortex to me! & why the heck is Dragstrip pictured as the right arm of Superion on the back of the packaging?

I have never cared for combiners. I much prefer them as individuals. To me, I don't see a part of Superion. I see a nice looking new character named Alpha Bravo and I want this figure so I can have a representation of him on my shelf.
