Red was a Char thing (and then, retroactively, a Ridden thing), not a commander thing. So normally, commanders would also be green. That shot is from the third original Gundam movie. The final battle at A Baoa Qu. If I remember right, he eats sh*t immediately after that in the same scene.

i remember watching that intro when i was watching the episodes of zeta, and remembering, "this can't be the original intro, it isn't 80's enough." and it doesn't fit the rest of the show at all.

intros in the 80's were all epic, and catchy songs.

i might like watching dubs. but dubbing companies, don't mess with the intros.

at least media blasters kept the original intros on the other track. or played the original intro and the dub intro every other episode.

but the Zeta dvd had this on both the dub, and the sub. i think the music sounds good, but doesn't fit the images on screen at all, like you said. it also doesn't sound 80's at all. there is no one singing about how this is the most awesome thing to ever play ever. :lol

I was making a dry remark after I read the synopsis for Interstellar. They make a big deal about rewriting American history books to make space travel and science beyond our world go from the reality of "Doing the Impossible" to "We faked a Pointless stunt" and instilling a sense of geocentric ignorance and isolation that has become an allegory for our real world educating of "Why should I study this? I have no need for it."

The thought of "those who forget history are doomed to repeat it" is what concerns me about what's going on in Reco G.

All the sound effects in the US opening doesn't do it any favours either. I get what they were trying to do with the music, but it totally undermines the whole THIS IS SRS BSNS GUYS when its buried undeneath zooms and pew pew pews. All its missing is the comedy boing noise when the Haro bounces.

As far as the legit ones go, I'm partial to the second one personally. Not going to deny that the first is one of the best edited opening sequences ever though.

I think they felt they had to add the sound effects to help hide the fact that the animation isn't timed to the new music at all. The redone opening depresses me every time I see it.

the sound effects bugged me too. might as well of been a roll call opening at that point. :lol

i like dubs, but only when the dub does not mess with the material. does not edit it. so those of you who do NOT like dubs, can still enjoy it.

and removing the intro's song, they might as well of just removed the entire intro itself.

it would of been better. or Bandai, just spend the extra money and get the rights. it's Gundam. it's going to be popular. and would of done pretty damn well on adult swim, if they gave zeta a chance.

I love the entire Zeta soundtrack. It's always been one of my favorites, I bought the 2-disc CD set as soon as it became available back in 1990 (1989? hard to remember now), and I like every single piece of music on it...which includes the piece they used for the redone intro.

I just don't think it fits the animation, and I think if you're going to pick one piece from the OST to capture the overall mood of the entire series, that one was a poor choice.

On a side note, I used to have that original theme song, Z - Toki wo Koete, on a 45 record single, back in 1985 when the show was first airing. I wonder what happened to it. It's so long ago, I don't even remember what the B-side was.

    the music is just fine.

it just fits what's going on, on screen, as about as well, if you put the rainbow brite theme there instead.

Yep. The thing that bothers me to no end about G No Recon is that it just jumps from scene to scene. no segue or lead in, it's like the director has ADD. The flow of it just sucks compared to others.

Aida is also acting super polite and such which is strange to see, must've missed something for her to be acting like that.

that actually seems to happen a lot in modern anime. i think they're all trying to be evangelion. *the original.* because i remember that being a lot like that too. especially the two "movies". *not the recent ones.*

I understand why some do it because of largely budget constraints not allowing them to show everything, others is just...well, terrible writing throughout so a jump just sort of fits in, but I kind of expected more from a Gundam series. Does anyone know how many episodes this is getting? if it's just a nominal amount, I guess that what it's doing makes sense...but still.

Help for pestering gundam noob pls.

So in october and this month I've been powering through gundam shows and would like advice on where to go next. I finished the original, loved it. Finished zeta, it was meh, kinda disappointed. Finished 0080, liked it. Halfway through 0083, like it. Watched build fighters, loved it. Watched the first episode of unicorn because I was bored, it seems cool. I know chronologically I should go ZZ then to char's counterattack then to unicorn, but i'm dreading watching ZZ. On the other hand, i'm a huge completionist when it comes to watching a franchise. I heard Turn A Gundam was really good, but I feel kinda down about watching it as I got spoiled about the big twist (Don't know how to make spoiler tags on here, so I cant say specifically what I know). Any tips on what show I should watch next?

WHY HAVE YOU NOT WATCHED 08th MS TEAM YET?! DO IT. DO IT NOW.

Ok, fine, you get a pass for going on to those, since they're good series.

You can quite honestly skip ZZ, people really don't like how it tries to be eternally optimistic to counterbalance Zeta's grim realism and it basically has nothing to do with Universal Century's plot when leading into Char's CounterAttack. And it's a real chore to get through the first 18 episodes of total garbage before the series actually starts being watchable.

Frankly, you can get the same effect by watching the last third of AGE which nosedives just as hard from the high it was left at the end of the middle third arc.

Turn A is amazing. Technically, it's somehow related to Universal Century except technology got reset to modern day level after another war or something and all the MS are actually war leftovers (including renamed Zaku II suits under a different name, it's clearly reused stock from MSG).

I also suggest After War Gundam X. It's a separate timeline altogether that actually is more of a "what if" take on the worst case scenario at the end of the One Year War, albeit very loosely. It also takes the absolute piss out of the concept of Newtypes and Garrod Ran is possibly the most likable protagonist in all of Gundam next to the Build Fighter leads.

    Also 08th MS TEAM!

Are you trying to kill him, Weltall?

If knowing that Turn A takes place in the super dark history future of UC isn't that big of a deal, then I'll watch 08th ms team then watch Turn A. Thanks for the advice. Also, whats so bad about G Saviour? Isn't it like, the gundam version of the live action TF movies?

Definitely watched 08th MS Team, easily the best Gundam OVA series IMHO. You should also check out the three MS Igloo OVA series too; The Hidden One Year War, Apocalypse 0079, and The Gravity Front.
After your done with Unicorn, go watch the F-91 movie and then the Victory Gundam TV series. Both are pretty good endings to the UC timeline.

Skip G-Saviour, it's no longer canon in the UC timeline; but if you must watch it, go ahead and knock yourself out. Its a pretty meh movie, with bad CGI Mobile Suits and rented Starship Troopers characters.

Do you have any interest in watching the compilation movies too? MSG is definitely worth watching, while 0083 is the worse Gundam compilation movie, Zeta is kinda close (its been awhile since I saw it through).

Alternate Universe Gundam-wise, go watch Gundam X, easily the best AU Gundam series. If you don't mind wacky super robot action, go watch G Gundam. Gundam Wing and Endless Waltz isn't bad either and worth a watch through; it kinda feels like a new spin to Zeta's story to me.

I'm a dub fiend, so I probably won't rewatch any series in the compilation movie format (Not to say I dont watch subs if they are the only thing availible or miles better than the dub). I probably won't finish unicorn until I've watched char's counterattack.
