I personally rate Animated as the (best) transformers cartoon series....

Stories, animation, characters all a win.

I think it was absolutely the the best storyline to date, and I'm including G1/Beast Wars/TFPrime.

Introduced great new characters (Lockdown, Lugnut, Bulkhead, Sentinel Prime), had great new storylines, Optimus didn't die, great potential for future seasons.

Watched the first three episodes. Great characters. My daughters likes the Sari girl. Starscream was a bad ass wow! Megatron's head being used to make robots...hmmmm where have I seen that before :bay

Which toys from this series would you recommend for an 8 year old girl to start? Nothing too expensive. Will try and get them at the next toy show.

    ya Bay Stole it!

but for an 8yo girl: First, I say Arcee, she should be around $40 or less. Then Deluxe Bumblebee. Maybe Sentinel or Soundwave Voyager or deluxe Optimus. I'd steer away from the Activators because they're sort of fragile. The seekers are okay.

Deluxe Ratchet would be fun. Blitzwing is finicky.
Blurr is borderline, getting him in car mode is a little tricky.

Love Lockdown nice and solid and simple, but he doesn't come up in the show till later and he's a mean bad guy XD

Warning if you go with Arcee: The way her sword handles are designed means that, eventually, her thumbs WILL break off. I've trimmed down the tabs a bit on mine, but only after I had to perform a bit of superglue surgery.

    WOW.
I like the regal close-up of his face the best. Looks like it came straight from the show.

BTW, I'm excited to have one of my grails on the way. I will delight in showing it (or, more accurately, THEM) off when they get here :rock
