The Base Mode of Star Saber is obviously an added idea or option after the toy was made: "hey look, when Saber is out we could place the body like this and it looks like a turret or a mini base!". That's why it's so ugly.

Star Saber continues to amaze, well other than the "base" mode. Yuki's making the wait unbearable with these pics!

I'll use that damn base mode at least once (probably after I've had him for quite some time and just want to break up the boredom). I love switching up my MP display and love all the options these guys provide.

I'm using Google translate, but even in his Twitter I think he says this is "reproducible to a degree." I feel like this was an afterthought like 'hey look what it can do!'

Huh. Didn't think I'd see a modern TF have a basic "Base" mode like that in like, ever.

To be fair, it's probably that but really only meant for having another feature to advertise. Anybody who buys MP Star Saber is most certainly not going to display him in "base mode".

It isn't an amazing mode, but the fact he can still do it is just icing the cake that is this MP. He is looking like he will be the best ever.

All true; I suspect that given the size and articulation on this guy, all of that is a given.

Still, 'Base Mode' rolls off the tongue a little easier than 'Passable Turret of Optimism'.

This just makes me want Sixshot all the more, to see if he can be bent into a Winged Wolf mode. But yeah, I'm sure the "base mode" is more of a "let's see if we can recreate that" sort of experiment. Either way, this guy is just tops, can't wait for 2015!!

    LOL

I'm not in the market for MPs, unfortunately, but if I were I don't think this would be a deal breaker for me. It's certainly not something you'd highlight when going on about its features, but the figure itself has enough going for it that it'll be a good investment to the people who do pick it up.

With the exception of Metroplex, Trypticon, Fort Max, and Scorponok, I don't think TFs do "Base Mode" that well; from the G1 combiner leaders to Star Convoy, as others have said this seems to be a "huh we can squeeze something else out of his limited articulation" kind of deal XD

Looks about as good as the G1 toy's Base mode which also seemed like an afterthought. Doesn't matter either way since the robot mode is so awesome I doubt I'd ever use the base mode anyway.

Hah, isn't preemptive complaining about whiners a form of whining itself?

Anyway, given the complexity of the figure, I don't think anyone will be upset about this weaker base mode.

Isn't that the vintage? With the hollow forearms, I am not sure if you are being sarcastic or my iPhone is too small...and I have deteriorating vison

I doubt this was intentionally designed in, TBH. Like Star Saber's "base" mode is pretty much just him doing a split and putting his arms back anyway.

Base modes like this have always been pretty shit.
