it is true rodimus prime and galvatron kind of made the show go down hill. the newer characters and the animation was poor. also the episode listing. From FFOD and killing jar and chaos then the return of optimus prime episodes. The episodes in between them are so out of order. I do not know which episode happened when.

How many time we saw Ultra Magnus telling Rodimus to have more confidence in himself, to stop being all worried and thinking that he can't get the job done. If he would have been more open, more optimistic, confident and not comparing himself to Optimus, he would have been just as good as Optimus was. They didn't give Rodimus a chance to develop himself as a true leader. Instead of Optimus taking back leadership of the Autobots, it would of been better for Rodimus if he would of been he mentor and his guidance.

especially when you top that off with the guilt of getting optimus killed.

it set up rodimus to become a REALLY good character. but season 3 ended with optimus coming back, instead of ending with rodimus getting over his guilt, like it should of, and forgiving himself, finally. thus becoming the great leader he needed to become.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing. I even had it typed out in my previous post but it became a long-winded rant so I deleted most of it :p

It could have made more sense plot-wise if, instead of Optimus taking back the Matrix, he refused and gave Rodimus a vote of confidence. Roddy stays the leader, gets over his issues, and Prime goes off into the distance (hey, like John Wayne!) to be called on again when needed.

While this certainly falls under the heading of "personal preference", so your mileage may vary, I think, for some fans, S3 is disliked for multiple reasons: the abrupt departure of a previously beloved cast, more reliance on poor quality AKOM Studios animation, an emphasis on a smaller and less interesting core cast of characters in multiple episodes, generic futuristic alt modes with Kup being the worst (what the #$%@ did he turn into?), a shift towards a younger audience with episodes that focused on Daniel and Wheelie, and the perception, you can debate whether or not it's true, that by S3 the creative staff was running on fumes due to the sheer number of episodes they had to crank out in such a short amount of time.

Season Three is actually my favorite. To me, it was something different which was good. It had my favorite cast. Also, I loved Rodimus and Galvatron and actually prefer them to Optimus and Megatron. I liked the Quintessons. I liked the new setting to Cybertron and space. Overall, there's a lot I like about Season Three.

It also probably helps that I didn't watch G1 until an adult so seeing certain characters die didn't affect me as much.

I love S3. I can understand the dislike for it to a degree as if you love the way a show is (S1 & S2) it's easy to hate it as soon as it moves too far away from that.

There was terrible animation for sure but there were also some very well animated episodes.

It's easy to pull up things like Grimlock and Daniel venturing into a medieval fantasy land as some of the low points of the Transformers G1 tv show as a whole but as some have already mentioned, S1 & S2 have just as many culprits, some even worse imo. Child's Play, the one where they end up in a giant alien kid's bedroom and make their way home using one of his toy ships... I mean come on, that's gotta be worse than anything in S3 right? Or Seaspray becoming a Merman, as somebody else mentioned which I completely forgot about.

I feel what really brings S3 down in many's opinion is the following:

    1) Those who were young TF fans at the time of the show's airing were growing up and likely losing interest in TF in general (at least in the way a child is into cartoons and not the way we are as adult fans) or felt alienated by the change as many others have pointed out.

    2) It's easy to see S1 & S2 as one season imo as the whole show becomes pre-movie and post-movie stories. Combined, S1 & S2 is massive and it's easy (as I did) to forget crap like Seaspray becoming a merman or Child's Play, and forge fond memories of simplistic stories of Autobots and Decepticons battling for energon and adding to the ranks of their teams in different ways.

S3 or post-movie on the other hand is so short, that it's impossible to forget crap like Carnage in C-Minor.

Personally, I love all 3 seasons and think they're all as good as each other, but I must admit, if ever I'm in the mood to watch the show, I'll 9 times out of 10 throw on S3. Mainly because I mostly have it on in the background and the music and atmosphere of the show is more to my liking than pre-movie seasons.

Of course that's all just my opinion.

I loved the third season of the original series. But I was sort of one a members of what I like to think of as Generation 1(B). When I got into Transformers, it was around 1986. So I was introduced to both the pre-movie and post-movie characters all at the same time. It's not like I fell in love with the pre-movie characters, only to have them taken away from me. So I can at least understand if there are people who were never able to totally get behind the new characters after having the original characters taken from them.

Can someone explain me why the Dinobots, especially Grimlock were nice to Rodimus, Ultra Magnus, Arcee, Springer and they were rude and jack a$$es to the Season 1 and 2 Autobots and especially to Optimus Prime?

They had 20 years to mellow out? Maybe the Dinobots got nicer and more chummy with the Season 1 and 2 Autobots in that timespan?

Because Rodimus Prime > Optimus Prime :D

I do think the Dinobots liked Rodimus Prime more than Optimus. Rodimus was in some ways a bit like them: charging in and spoiling for a fight -- just look at how Grimlock responds in FFoD when Perceptor suggest Rodimus takes Grimlock along, after Rodimus reminds Perceptor what happened to the last Autobot to babysit him. Grimlock knows that when he's with Rodimus he'll get his fight and it will be good, while Optimus limited them. Of course, different times and different circumstances: there were no humans around or human buildings to protect.

(Plus Rodimus let them do what they wanted to do, while Optimus stored them away when he didn't need them, and reacted annoyed when the Dinobots didn't do what he told them to.)

But it's not just the Dinobots. The Aerialbots, even after War Dawn, were rebellious when Optimus lead, but followed Rodimus his commands without questioning.

(The likely truth is that by the time season 3 came along none of those characters demanded much characterisation to make the toys interesting and thus received little in comparison to season 1 & 2; all the attention was given to the new toys/characters.)

maybe it is because optimus prime locked them in a closest until they were needed, and rodimus never did that?

optimus is a dick in the series. but people tend to forget that.
