TTV is now reporting in their forums (being butts and purposefully not putting everything on Twitter ) that this is actually a SOFT reboot. They've supposedly been told that the Toa are the SAME TOA we know and that they've awoken (hence the crashing in the official flyer...) in a strange new land without their memories. I wish they would just be upfront about this or that there were some collaborating sources. BZP is the best chance, but it's likely they're going to consolidate and genuinely confirm everything first. It would make their Star Trek analogy accurate though...
So we're getting a Bionicle cartoon..... well I wished we had this a decade ago. well better late than never. Even though it'll probably suck.
And now Greg's flat out saying it's a reboot. Yeah okay, I'll side with him. Sorry for the false alarm.
So, I watched the video on the Bionicle Facebook page, and thoughts: Wow, Okoto really DOES look like Mata Nui, only with a more distinct separation of the elements. I'm almost tempted to give it a pass, though, given that Metru Nui also has a similar shape to Mata Nui. Almost. Even though there's a distinct separation between the elemental zones, there's a shot of Protectors/Agori/Matoran of different colors sitting together. Will this be represented in story, or will there be a divide between different elemental tribes again? You know, when I called the MacGuffin Kanohi something along the lines of "Mask of Godhood/Mask of Ultimate Power", I was JOKING. Though, at least we have three MacGuffin masks now, and the Mask of Ultimate Power isn't the same mask as the Mask of Creation, so that's sort of original. How many of you think that Reboot!Makuta is Teridax, and who thinks it's someone different? It's probably supposed to be Teridax, all things considered, but his color scheme before and after donning the MUP makes me think otherwise (Even after he turns evil, his color scheme is just red and black, while Teridax's was either Red/Black/Silver or infected-looking gunmetal depending on the depiction) I just realized that the Mask of Ultimate Power is basically this version of Bionicle's explanation for why Makuta is so damn powerful. Kind of reminds me when they decided that there were actually a whole species of Makuta instead of just the one, though this time, they kept Makuta unique. As with all things about this reboot, whether that's a good or bad thing is up for debate (and they'll probably reintroduce the Makuta species later, anyway). Speaking of, doesn't the rivalry between Makuta and Ekimu combine both the Mata Nui/Makuta rivalry and the Arthaka/Karzahni rivalry? Okay, someone needs to make an Amaja Circle version of that video. If nobody else will, I will. On the subject of that, I preferred it when the backstory was told using rocks instead of this rather Mixels-esque style. The animation is fine, it's just cartoony. I am expecting the story to pull a Metru Nui and have a shocking reveal that parts of the backstory of Okoto and the Ekimu/Makuta story to be falsified or at least altered. I am also expecting otherwise. Also, are there any reports of getting Bionicle comics, or no? I know the books are out, but still...
That's because you weren't around for the original, which just became even more painfully obvious. I can't even.
That could actually be pretty cool if played right. The Toa lose their memories and wake up on Okoto. So while we are learning about this new land and it's lore. The toa would be learning the same and trying to uncover their pasts. And it could eventually come to a point where, they form a connection to Okoto and it's people and when they regain their memories. they have to choose between their original universe, what they called home, and the new one, their new home. If done right, it could have great story potential.
