Every so often I think about WHY I collect figures. Is it because I'm secretly a hoarder? No. Is it because I plan on giving them to my kids when I die? No. Is it because I have so much money I have no idea HOW to spend it? Hell no.

About 2 years ago, while staring at a HUGE collection of Transformers (probably close to 2,000 figures or so), it hit me. I collected all these figures because it reminded me of my childhood! It reminded me of all the times I'd wake up on Saturday morning with a huge bowl of Lucky Charms and watch my favorite TV show. I was trying to capture that feeling in a bottle! ...Or Detolf, I guess, lol.

But then it hit me, the majority of the figures I had on display had little to no sentimental value to me. I bought them to fill some sort of void. Sure there had been OTHER TV shows, video games, comics, and even movies that influenced my life and gave me that nostalgia feeling, right?

The answer is YES! So I spent the better part of 2 years figuring out which franchises had influenced me the most and collecting figures that were part of those franchises. Then I bought display cases and shelves that blended together into a theme and almost made my man cave into a museum of sorts. Yesterday, after so much saving, selling, and sacrificing, I got the LAST figure that I needed to actually complete my goal. I'd say I'm FINALLY satisfied with what I have, and am proud to show off this room not just to people online, but to friends, family, and strangers that visit my house.

Here are some pictures of the franchises that influenced my childhood: Digimon, Persona, Video games (in general), Batman, The Legend of Zelda, Power Rangers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Pokemon, Transformers, Pacific Rim, Lego, Football (49ers), Booze (yay!) and Portal.

Enjoy! And I know I have another collection thread called "The Evolution of a Display", but seeing as how I've finally reached my goal, I figured I'd make a final collection thread. Mods, if it's a problem, feel free to close my older collection thread.

Very clean man. I too use to have a ton of figures and I drastically cut back. Matter of fact I want to cut back even more and just have a few select g1's and then my MPs. My future set up will include those figures along with some select turtle figures and some Zelda stuff : ) Less is more, and we're gettin to old to have a million toys in our house lol.

Thanks! And you're absolutely right. I guess also felt I was getting a bit too old to have 4 Walmart bookshelves crammed full of Transformers. It also didn't hurt that around that time, my little nephew (who was at the time 2 years old) used to always come to visit. It became VERY clear that I'd have to invest in a more "organized" display system with glass doors to keep little fingers off my figures. Now, 99% of my figures are either protected by glass, or on shelving that's too high for kids to reach.

Just had my own little girl 6 months ago, so I'm sure having my stuff blocked off from her death grip will pay off immensely.

Very classy, this is how to do a display properly. Its refreshing to see something tasteful when so many collections consist of shelf after shelf crammed with so many bots you can't see anything.

Thanks. My wife and I just moved into this house 4 months ago, so for the first time I was able to actually paint and renovate things to be the way I wanted it.

I appreciate it! My intent was to actually make a relatively tasteful/classy space where I could bring people in to watch a movie or football game and not have to feel awkward as hell with them being surrounded by plastic robots with guns aimed at them, lol.

The last two figures, actually, were D-Arts Gallantmon and Beelzemon. I had always intended to have those figures in my collection on one of the black shelves above the computer, but never had the spare cash laying around to get them. Not sure why I didn't actually make them a bigger priority, though, because Tamers is probably one of my favorite cartoons ever made.

Very clean, organized, and slick. Sometimes less is more and your collection does that with style.

    Thanks dude!

    Much appreciated!

Yup, that's exactly what I was going for. I realized I didn't HAVE to have all my figures out at once. Ended up selling (or am in the process of selling) all the figures that couldn't fit.

    Thank ya!

Easily one of the sharpest setups I've ever seen. I love the way you've taken such a clean and minimalist approach with your stuff, but without needing to cut back on what you're actually displaying too much. Also very diverse which works to that affect, and something I'm looking to do as well. Really like your wall art placement, too.

Thanks! I tried to keep a solid theme going. Red, grey, black, and white. I purposely looked for artwork that both represented the things I collected, while also matching the theme of those colors. Kinda helps it all blend in together.

Thank you. Gotta love those Bestas. They look damn nice, but they sure are expensive to deck out with glass shelves, doors, and lighting.
