Wow, I had no idea you could strip chrome that way. This could come in handy for a lot of things. Thanks for the video Cheetimus!

Magic Erasers in conjunction with the alcohol are great for stripping paint and chrome as well. I tend to use 90 iso instead of denatured. Be careful with clear plastics though, as some typed break down with alcohol and suffer a fate similar to GPS.

Ha, I love how offended he is by the "absurd, red chrome". Not that I disagree, but just the way it was phrased, like the chrome stole something from him.

Great resource though, sure LOTS of ppl will be doing it.

For the record, having dunked my hand in the Super Clean excessively once, it's going to take out any moisture/oil in your skin and make it super dry for a few hours. Lots of hand lotion and some time and you'll be normal... So wear gloves if you're touching it, because it's really annoying and discomforting.

Thanks for the video. Though I don't think the chrome bothers me that much.

I'll have to have him in hand for a while to decide how I feel about the red chrome. But if it should start to peel it's good to know this is an option.

Is the red on your finished Jetfire the natural red plastic after dechroming or did you paint it red afterwards too?

The irony of Jetfire is that underneath all that ugly beast wars red chrome is a beautiful natural red.

I painted it as well. I found the unpainted plastic sucked in too much light.

Is that why, in some pics, it turns pinkish?

I was told it was more red in person. *shrug* don't know what to say now.

No, it's plenty red. It's just my personal choice.
If I had the patience I'd paint the entire thing white as well.

along with pretty much anything else. I used that to weaken tampo print and other kinds of paint before....it left some odd gritty residue on a repaint I wanted to make and dulled over time. Guess it's just one of those things where you gotta be really careful.
    Otherwise that's not bad stuff!

Good to know, thanks for the video. I've also seen a video that used Dran-O Gel to remove chrome from plastic parts, was a model car customizer I think.

Does anyone know if 70 isopropyl alcohol will work?
