maybe i am wrong, maybe he is right, and all he is saying is true; maybe i should watch it again. i fully understand people seeing things in movies that others don't. but i really did not see any of that with sucker punch.

there are actually three of them. only the first one was any good though. and there was the animatrix, which is okay. it has some cool parts in it. it's a series of shorts, kind'a like what they did for gotham knight.

 

I think he was being sarcastic as in the first one was the only good one so Reloaded and Revelations never existed.

I hate Reloaded when I first saw it though. Just grew on me several years later.

 

On the Topic of Sucker Punch...

I cannot possibly type about all the symbols but if you brace yourself with the following knowledge, you can find them:

In the asylum layer, men are watching the past trauma sessions and pick out their girl to rape.
In the brothel layer, men are watching dances and are entranced.
In the fantasty layer, hordes and bosses are being killed in over the top action sequences, which proves to the girls, what they're doing is in fact just as big and heroic a mission as overcoming their daunting tasks.



The film opens up with curtains being drawn, this serves to equate the audience to the audience of the asylum/brothel. In other words, by choosing to view the film, we are compliant with their exploitation.

This issue is adressed through several lines:

"What the hell is this? I get the sexy schoolgirl, I even get the helpless mental patient. That can be hot, right? But lobotimized vegetable? How about something a little more commercial for God's sake." -Sweet Pea.

"All that gyrating and moaning, a dance should be about more than just titillation. Mine is personal, it says who I am. What the heck does yours say? -Sweat Pea.

"It means I will be free" -Baby Doll.



The film then states the girls can find power in their sexuality and in the outfits the audience selected, while at the same time warning us that it might amount to nothing:

"One pill makes you small, and one pill makes you tall, but the last pill, it does nothing at all" -White Rabbit lyric. One of the ambiguous moments that asks, if this is empowering, is it worth the cost?

Essentially the theme is resuiting worlds to yourself, worlds where tragic events can help to empower and shape yourself which can lead to victory, no matter how morbid it can be.

Zack Snyder says in his 'watch with' film experience, that these were the intentional themes he explored. Maybe he expected people to not need non-visual explanation, maybe some people hate it for other reasons, but its pretty clear to me what Sucker Punch is trying to say.

A Million Ways To Die In The West - 4/10

 

Suckerpunch is trying to say, "I want to make a movie about girls in skimpy clothing but do not know how to," plain and simple. Anything else Zack tries to claim is a straight up lie.

 

Any message Sucker Punch tries to convey fails because all the characters are flat and one dimensional and have really blatant dialogue. In the movie, all males (but one) are pigs and all the females are submissive and victimized and everyone is dumb. You can't explore meaningful themes with such black and white characters, most of whom don't even have backstory or development. We don't even know why any of the main girls are there aside from the lead.

Everything about the story feels contrived so that any inconsistencies are excused. It's in the 50s so the law is lax, the characters are crazy so things don't have to make sense, apparently everyone is corrupt, etc. It's lazy.

The idea that ultimately being unable to interact with the real world is empowerment is ridiculous. What the main character did was retreat and cope by living in fantasy. You don't retreat and cope if you have power/control.

I think Zack Snyder meant well, and he obviously tries with his movies, but he should not be in a writing position and needs to learn restraint.

EDIT: I don't think it sucks, it just sucks as an empowerment film.

 

I agree. The first Matrix is great because it stands on its own and tells a complete story. Sure, the main conflict still exists at the end of the movie, but Neo is in a different place character-wise at the end of the movie. Reloaded is just the first half of two movies and I personally like it. However, it fails because Revolutions drops the ball so much as the second half of that story. You can't watch Reloaded on its own as a complete movie. Its job is to introduce new plot threads for the finale, but the finale just didn't deliver.

 

Rise of the Guardians - 6/10

A pretty inoffensive way to spend an hour and change with your kids, has some nice visual design (Russian Santa FTW) but on the whole just doesn't really hit the same high notes as Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon

Plus, Jack Frost is an enormous tool; but I blame that on being voiced by Chris Pine, who I am not fond of as an actor.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: 8/10
Would have gotten 9/10 if the physics weren't so... off. It kinda bugged me. Still a good movie, unlike what all the haters said.

I saw sucker punch before and, although it wasn't anything spectacular, awesome, and groundbreaking, I didn't think it was that terrible. The only Zach Snyder film I was disappointed with was MOS. 300 was pretty good and Watchmen (both cuts) was very well made, in my honest opinion. I have yet to see Night of the Living Dead, but I hear it's pretty decent.

 

Are you the director, writer, anyone who had a hand in the film? you don't know shit, don't pretend your interpretation is fact.

Eh perhaps people were just lousy audience members, the movie also fails by expecting some audience members to be vigilant enough to piece imagery together to form a story, meaning it fails on a film level. I mean it could've been polished up some, but how it can be missed by so many, I just do not get.

Also we know why the main 3 girls are there, there are good males, the girls personalities are oddly represented by their sexy outfits and actions, and of course a story about corrupt asylum is going to be corrupt. Blatant dialog, inconsistencies?

And are you really saying people in such situations feeling empowered by their power of mind are ridiculous? That is the power they know. Baby helped Sweet Pea escape, she feels heroic, I'm not going to say she's wrong.

But what do I know, its just a fetish on display film   .

Rise of the Planet of the Apes- 8.5/10 Stilll need to see the new one.

 

Audiences didn't have any problems grasping Inception, so no, people hate Suckerpunch because the movie is just flat out utter shit.

And yes, I am a writer. I just don't have anything published right now because I haven't been able to get an agent.

 

i do not need to be a writer, to know that you're interrupting things, and calling them fact. then being a hypocrite about it, when others do the same thing.
