Guy's asking $850. A little doubtful, but says he needs the money asap. What do you guys think of it? Is the sticker in the top right corner a genuine AFA sticker?

The item is real and is in a collection!......But not the sellers!

This picture was stolen from another seller!

    Buyers Beware!

that's pretty sketchy, someone stealing a photo and using it as their own.

it's so sad seeing such an awesome toy just sitting in a useless plastic box.. why not just buy a photo of it, frame it, and throw it on your wall.. it would sure as hell cost a lot less and it'd achieve the same thing as getting the actual thing would.

I just PMed Maz (the writer of those articles) about this, he should be able to contact the picture taker and see if it indeed his Jetfire that's for sale.

    Looking decidedly dodgey though.

I've let the taker of the photo know. He does move toys out of his collection now and then, so maybe he can come and clear this up. Thanks Kit :thumb

Just ask the craigslist seller if he can make you multiple photographs, taken from different angles and a close up of that AFA sticker.

If he says he can't be bothered to do so, you'll know he doesn't actually have it.

That used to be my Jetfire. I know where it is now and this guy DOES NOT own it.

Hes also trying to move it on ebay with the same scam

Transformers G1 Jetfire RARE MISB AFA No Reserve | eBay

I emailed him asking if I can buy it to mess with him. Sure enough hell sell it to me for $800.

But it has to be through paypal no ebay.

And it has to be right now.

I said are you sure, its worth a hell of a lot more.

He said hes giving me a nice discount and because he got it cheap he doesn't want to "rip me off"

I said no problem, just send me a pic with todays date written on a piece of paper in front of the Jetfire.

He responded he cant, its at "his shop".

The actual grade on that Jetfire was 80/85/85.

He pulled something similar with another buyer I know, claiming to sell him an 85 Slag for a ridiculously low price and a busted up junker Unicron showed up in the mail.

The goal of this scam is simple.

Get as many people as possible to commit to a super cheap price of $800 or so to an item worth 6x that.

Collecting the payment and say the item is shipping. During the lag time, transfer the money to his bank from paypal, then close both out before any chargebacks or cases can be filed.

The guy is a piece of shit.

well, considering this is a transformers website, in which most of the things discussed on here are transformers related.. YES, it is sad, i'm sorry you can't understand that in relation to the site that you're visiting.. but hey, good for you.

played out.. sure.. dumb?.. meh, not really, it's true and it'll continue to be true. anyone paying that kind of money for something like this is crazy to me.. it just is. i don't see the enjoyment at all other than being something decorative like a painting or it being something stressfully valuable that you're only keeping to flip some day for a profit.

also .. if we're using your way of looking at things out of context.. then AFA is just a big scam.. hooray these TOYS don't have busted boxes, they're still sealed and have a cute little clear box around them.. YAY.. for what purpose? who knows, it's not a true piece of history, it's not something that should be displayed in a museum.. so, what's the point? i mean, i understand the declaration of independence sitting in a case.. i understand truly historic books that are important to our country's history being in a sealed glass case.. but a toy from the 80's, c'mon.

see what i did there, i used your way of insulting me to do the same right back.

oh well. i've said my peace.

that's pretty shitty that that seller is doing that.. sure, it could be easy to do, but i just wouldn't feel right scamming someone like that, especially with that amount of money. that's truly terrible. even worse than scalping.

Something is only fact if it is objective and can be proven. What you state is an opinion. I respect your opinion, but attacking the way in which others collect isn't necessary. The purpose of this thread was to help the OP determine the legitimacy of the piece, and Jon definitely helped in this regard. He's warned people on other threads about this seller, so he's probably saved some members their hard-earned money (and a big headache in the process).

Scalping isn't illegal. If this is a scam then it's fraud.

I'm sure he'd have an excuse for not meeting in person, which is probably why he says he'll ship the item. He'd have no way of completing the scam otherwise.

Dang...this seller is in my old neck of the woods. I know exactly where this seller is if the Craigslist ad is to be believed. He's located in a tech business park according to the location within the map. Anyways, that's crazy and sad that someone from my home town is caught trying to scam people. :(

So if you contacted him locally on Craigslist he would try to talk you into sending him money and he'd "ship" it to you rather than do an in-person exchange? Why would anyone accept those terms for a big ticket item like that?

Maybe if someone in the state or that region of the country wanted to buy it and didn't feel like making the trip. That's the only way I can see it working. I would love to hear his excuse if a local wanted to pick it up, though. He'd probably try to make them pay first and then give a bogus address for pick up.
