I still keep old transformers, but I only buy MP and certain MP scaled third party. I may pick up the odd classics to fiddle with, but that's it.

I'm doing the opposite, actually lol. I'll be keeping a few MPs, but I'm going CHUG for now.

For me, although MPs are the ultimate representation of the G1 cartoon characters, the breadth and scope of the Classics figure will never be duplicated and thus I will never abandon it for the MP line. I've only gotten the MP's that can fit into the classics collection (mainly the cassettes).

Between CHUGs, Botcon/Club and 3rd Party, we've had almost a complete modern updated recreation of the original G1 toyline, which is my main goal in collecting Transformers. With the figures we've have gotten now and plenty of upcoming official and unofficial figures in the pipeline the 1984-1987 period of the toyline have been covered very well with even some good Pretender, Micromaster and Action Master representation from the tail end of the line. G2, Diaclone, Microman, non-toy cartoon/comic characters and international variants have seen some toys too.

For me, now is not the time to jump ship, sell off the classics and start over with a new scale/line but to finally finish off the collection with the end in sight!

I'd say I've gone for a mainly MP oriented display. I have about 5 display shelves of MP things, and 3 display shelves devoted to other lines (Movie-verse, Shattered Glass, and Animated respectively).

Honestly, I can't see myself buying anymore figures in the future other than Masterpiece releases. Though honestly, I have to admit that I'm interested in Windblade.

I'd love to go MP only but I just don't enjoy messing with them on a daily basis as I do my classics. Plus I couldn't get my fix since the release schedule is so slow.

I try to stick to Masterpiece and occasional third party items that fit in well with that aesthetic, like Quakewave. It's what I always wanted in a collectible line, and anything else I buy ends up paling in comparison. That used to be a big problem for me, but I was out of the fandom for several years before the recent Masterpiece revival, and doing so made it pretty easy to have the willpower to avoid buying things that don't fit with my collecting goals. Since I wasn't buying ANYTHING for about six years, I got out of the habit and now it's pretty easy to stick to predetermined plans.

There are three reasons that I wouldn't go straight MP:
    1) Too expensive to backtrack
    2) My favorite non-G1 characters would never have MP versions
    3) There are lots of characters in the MP line that I don't care much about

I get the idea of the price point and having many different characters that are not represented in the MP line.

However for me what compels me to go with MP is the size, the quality and the G1 accuracy. For me CHUG is what got me back into Transformers but once the MP stuff switched when MP 10 came out everything is so much better quality. They have that Toy\High End Collectors item feel.

I have also started going down the route of Hot Toys\Sideshow Collectibles. They are still toys at the heart of it, but they are also high end collectors items.

I have even moved from 3 3/4 inch Star Wars into the 6 inch line. The detail and quality is what gets me.

I'm thinking more along these lines. I love the handful of MPs that I have, but they are (obviously) expensive and because of that I don't find myself fiddling with them much because I'm afraid of breaking them with some of their involved transformations. In the rare event that I would break a piece on a classics figure it's only $13 down the drain as opposed to $70+.

Oddly enough, because of MP's and (some) involved transformations, I started collection the classics legends figures and I find myself enjoying them almost more. 10 seconds and they can be transformed and back and they remind me a bit more of the original toys in the 80's.

I'll be going primarily MP only in the coming months, but that's not really by choice, rather a circumstance of having less money. I've always said if I can only buy one figure every month, or every three months, then I'm going to save all of my "hobby money" for the next Masterpiece.

    That's become the case now.

With that said, I'll be backtracking to pick up other figures when I can.

MPs come out in a trickle and my collecting attention span is way too short to go MP only. If anything I've gotten back into my Generations and Classics like never before in the last few months while the wait for MP Jackie has become interminable.

I've posted it many times, but I did the same thing last summer. Sold off everything to fund catching up on the MP line. Haven't looked back. No regrets. I have MP-08 through 19 with 20, 21, and 22 preordered and will preorder Star Saber as soon as he's available. As far as hobbies go, I've never been happier. These are the guys I've wanted for thirty years. They're a dream come true.

MPs are nice, but they're boring. There's nothing really engaging about the typical.

While I still have the rest of my collection and wont be selling any of it, I do plan on picking up a few of the upcoming Classic-verse stuff (mostly Legends Insecticons and Mini-bots). Otherwise, yes MPs will be my main focus going forward and hopefully within a year, will be the only TFs that I purchase.

Do what makes you happy, man.

I'd do the same thing if they came out with a Masterpiece Nightbeat or Cloudburst. The thing is, as much fondness as I have for the cartoon, most of the Season 1 and 2 guys were out of rotation when I was of appropriate age. I came in when headmasters, pretenders, action masters, micromasters, etc. were on the shelves.

So the toys I actually owned, and therefore the characters I care about, aren't going to rate a Masterpiece release. To that extent, Generations has been a godsend to me this year with Brainstorm, Scoop, and Nightbeat. I don't really see myself abandoning Generations, because Masterpiece will never have to dig that deep.

The best thing I ever did for my Transformer collection was go all MP. Aside from a few key toys here and there (Prime First Edition Optimus Prime is the last one that comes to mind) I really have not enjoyed the main TF toyline for quite awhile. If I thought it looked cool, I bought it and was usually disappointed with my purchase. The movie stuff only made it worse. Then I looked at the only TF line to really deliver the goods and that's the MP line. So instead of wasting money on toys that never really did anything for me, I went all MP. Plus it doesn't hurt that G1 is the only TF incarnation that elicits an emotional response from me and MP is G1 incarnate.

Yup. I've still have a large G1 collection I'll always hang on to (most of them I owned as a kid), but I've pretty much stopped buying more G1 figures and am 100% focused on the MP line. I was buying tons of 3rd party to fill in the gaps, but now I've cut that to only figures that I feel look right for the G1 Sunbow esthetic, which right now consists only of Huff and the FT Dinobots.

I would keep it official product only, if we'd just get a couple more releases over the course of a year, for me that's been the hard part, the big wait between figures. I admire other collector's patience and restraint, it does not come naturally to me. The slow schedule has been good for the wallet though.

I still have my old G1 collection (in storage), not going to sell that lot off if I can avoid it. Also have some BT/Alt's in storage too.
But I only recently got back into collecting, and it was stumbling across MGT-01 Delicate Warrior (Arcee) that got me back into collecting.
I had MP-04 and MP-05 back from when they first came out, but my dislike of MP-03 made me give up pursuing collecting more of them. That and the expense of trying to buy them here in the UK.
But as a female Transformers fan, I always felt disappointed that there were no female Transformers figures/toys, even though they existed in the comics and cartoon (I'm talking G1 here, that's my limit).
So when I found this pretty damn accurate 3P G1 Arcee, I soon found the re-booted MP line, and got back into collecting again.
I was going to simply collect the MP figures I liked and leave it at that, but then I found this place (TFW) and was introduced to "enabling" and began to stray into non-MP figures, and 3P MP and non-MP figures.
I still try to keep it mainly MP, but some other figures that I can't resist or get "enabled" to buy occasionally creep in.
But space and price will always rein me back in when I get over-ambitious with my purchases.
