What are some of your favorite movie soundtracks?

Mine would have to be that of Pacific Rim and Captain America: the Winter soldier. I'm a sucker for electronic soundtracks.

If you're talking soundtracks, it's Guardians of the Galaxy all the way. It's not called Awesome Mix Vol. 1 for nothing.

For a score, I would say Lord of the Rings. I also really enjoyed Sunshine of a Spotless Mind's score.

As far as best score, I would go with the original Star Wars trilogy.

Guardians of the Galaxy has the best soundtrack for a movie I've ever heard.

Score wise, pretty much everything by Zimmer, Jablonsky, Howard, Horner, Williams are golden. This includes Jurassic Park, the Bayfilms, the Dark Knight Saga, The Lion King, Star Wars, etc.

Jerry Goldsmith did really good for Alien and The Omen, too. Alexandre Desplat's score for the final Harry Potter film (Part II) was really great as well.

I didn't pick any movie score as a whole but my all time favorite track is King of Pride Rock by Hans Zimmer.

The score to Michael Mann's Thief almost outshines the film itself. I'll order the album soon and probably get into Tangerine Dream.

^This!!! Except Goldsmith (probably my favorite composer), Marvin Hamlisch, and Michael Giacchino are much higher on my list! I'm a huge film music geek. In another life I would be a film music composer...

Movie music is something I actively collect. I'm currently sitting on around 130 different CD's and Tapes. One of the most important aspects of a good movie is a good score. The music sells the story and sets the mood of a given scene as much if not more than any special effects.

I've always thought it's be cool to see a radio station set up that played only movie soundtracks. It'd be a great station to just veg out to while writing or while messing around with your favorite hobbies.

As to the topic of the thread, I'd say there were too many to choose from to do any top whatever number list. Tho I do have 5 or 6 that I listen to more often than the others.

    In no particular order...

    1. Star Trek III: the Search for Spock. (My first sound track.)
    2. Back to the Future (just an awesome score.)
    3. Pirates of the Caribbean
    4. Raiders of the Lost Ark
    5. Lord of the Rings
    6. The Transformers (first Michael Bay movie for the score, the '86 one of the soundtrack.)

Hans Zimmer - Thunderbirds 2004 (only really decent thing about that film, the score is a great mix of instrumental and electronica).

Alan Silvestri - Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life ("Pandora's Box"/"Not Meant To Be Found" has me in tears every time).

Steve Jablonsky - Pacific Rim (the theme is a constant earworm) and Transformers 2007 (we all love "Arrival to Earth", right?).

Ramin Djawadi - Iron Man (real GET MOVING music).

I don't even care that it's the wrong way to forge a sword, everything about the opening credits to Conan the Barbarian is perfect.
