It's weird, the only two actors who really affected me in any way when they passed were both comics. Phil Hartman and Robin Williams.

So sad that depression can do this to anyone.

I think this is cause these comics make you feel better when your down.

Being a Nurse the usually treatment is medication in combination with therapy. It takes time to find the right combo and yes at times it can make the condition worse. Thats why support is needed dealing with depression

Wow, first Harold Ramis, now Robin Williams.

He played a big part in my life, from Mork & Mindy and Popeye to Good Morning Vietnam and Dead Poets Society to Aladdin and Mrs. Doubtfire. Hook, Baron Munchhausen, Bicentennial Man, Ferngully, Happy Feet... the list goes on.

I was very happy when he was recognized for his work in Good Will Hunting, as I was always impressed with his ability to play dramatic parts, like in Dead Poets Society or Awakenings. I remember many people thought he was snubbed of an Oscar nomination for Good Morning Vietnam. He also had a memorable guest appearance on an episode of Law and Order.

I fucking hate that he committed suicide, but I know that depression is no laughing matter.

    Carpe Diem.

Been seeing this quote spread around...

Sad truth... in fact *many* other famous comedians report having serious bouts of depression. Probably has to do with the fact that, in order to shed light in any situation... they have to see the grim, dark, and bleak truth about everything... then try to make it somehow funny, in a crazy twist of irony.

Yeah, this is horrible and sad all at once. I saw those pictures from Aladdin and that really brought it home and I just lost my composure. Seeing reports of his death on the news sites was so sterile, but reading people's reactions here and on Facebook has made it all so painfully real. I don't even think I got this upset over Michael Jackson, although his untimely passing was just as tragic.

Robin Williams was one of the only stand-up comedians that I really liked, and his movies were a part of my childhood. May his memory be for a blessing.

Excuse me now while I go crawl into a corner.

It was crazy, I was talking to friends about how I thought Death To Smoochy was an underrated movie, I googled to see upcoming Robin Williams projects, and then saw the news. It was devastating.

Did not realize that in a span of 4 years, he was nominated for 3 Best Actor Oscars. Here's hoping his dramatic capabilities will be remembered alongside his legendary comedic abilities.

Your post made me think of "The Tears of a Clown" by Smokey Robinson says/sings it so well.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaMX0Cs5Bc4

From Wiki: Robinson, who remarked that the song's distinctive calliope motif "sounded like a circus," provided lyrics that reflected his vision and sang lead vocal. In the song, his character, sad because he does not have a woman who loves him, compares himself to the characters in the opera Pagliacci, comedians/clowns who hide their hurt and anger behind empty smiles.

Robin's demons were with him for a long time, he fought them for so long--"smiling in the public eye"... behind the laughter, the crazy improv, the hundreds of characters he created... he just couldn't hide it anymore... his struggles just became too much.
Just wish he kept fighting those demons.

Coincidentally, my GF and I were watching a French movie called "The Hedgehog" last night. The main characters were an 11yr old girl who is set on committing suicide on her 12th birthday, and the 53yr old superintendent of the building they share who has secluded herself from people. The superintendent didn't let herself enjoy life for many years until the events of the movie, and the little girl was going to end her life before she could find any joy in it.

The end of the movie is quite unexpected, but the moral of the story is that there is nothing glorious about killing yourself, and that death comes suddenly and unexpectedly. You die. You can no longer see your loved ones, and they can no longer see you.

I'm glad I chose to get out of my depression. When I see how good I have it when compared to other people in this world, it really puts things into perspective. That there are people who have nothing, yet are fighting to stay alive. They continue on the difficult path, and their determination is what I choose to be inspired by.

I think Dead Poets Society is the only film shown in a classroom that I liked.

A truly talented person is gone, I feel sorry for his family and friends.

I like to think he's cracking jokes with Charlie, Groucho, and the other greats of comedy.

A huge and vibrant personality is lost to us. Still having trouble believing its true.

Saw a post on FB from Aladdin with the caption "Genie, you're free now." Almost lost it.
