I'm okay with this. I enjoyed all the movies even with the flaws and it wouldn't bother me if Bay and Kruger kept doing them.

    And that kitten is adorable.

Again, you're assuming the only reason a movie makes money is because it's "good", and while quality definitely plays a part in continued success, there's a lot of other factors, such as marketing, tie-ins, competition at the time, and even very specific social conditions. Similarly, many movies do relatively poorly in theatres but are vindicated by history, such as Dredd or even the 86 Transformers movie.

Are we all going to say that The Phantom Menace was a good movie, even though it made a shit ton of money? I mean shit, I must have seen it like ten times in theatres, and in retrospect I look at that and wonder what the hell I was thinking, because it is not a "good" film. There's a ton of examples just like that, where blockbusters succeed in spite of their cinematic quality, not because of it.

Sorry but box office and quality just don't go hand in hand.

Box office is about marketing. So the people who went to see Pacific Rim could be happy with the film but the marketing team dropped the ball on the film so it didn't have the huge opening that films need to rake in a huge haul. Even the studio knows they dropped the ball with marketing so that's why they are going with a second film even though the box office results were disappointing in the US.

Avatar when you look at it objectively isn't that good of a film. But the must see this new form of 3D parked a bunch of people into theater seats because there was no way to see it like that at home.

Grown Ups 2 made $133 million in the US, how in the heck can quality be a driver if a film like that makes even make $5 in the US?

Or lets take Transformers then. Age of Extinction is going to land somewhere between $240 to $250 million in the US. Revenge of the Fallen made $402 million in the US. Are you really going to say that Revenge of the Fallen was such a better movie that it deserves to beat up Age of Extinction that bad at the box office?

When people make up the list of best movies, best actors, best stories, even best special effects none of those lists are based on the box office. Until they come up with best marketing awards then the box office just doesn't say best or worst.

I actually like the live-action Transformers movies, despite their (many) flaws. Sure, the first two are... less than good, to put it lightly, but there was potential, with great, stimulating action sequences, intricately designed robots, and some human characters who weren't useless most of the time, if nothing else (something I'm not sure Transformers had done before). Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction is where, in my opinion, the potential of the movies had been truly explored, and, with less stupid moments (or at least making the remaining stupid moments actually funny) and racism. It's clear that, whether you love or hate the movies, he's pulled in a great deal more fans (though I became a fan with Animated, I doubt I'd have bothered to watch it if I hadn't heard of the movie), and has helped the franchise by bringing back more familiar characters, like Bumblebee, Ratchet, Jazz, Brawl, and Ravage. All in all, the movies DO have their flaws, don't get me wrong, but the good in them, for me, is more memorable than the bad, and I thank Mr. Bay for revitalizing the franchise!

People are allowed to have their opinions and that's fine, but arguing about a movies writers directors actors acting and perceived quality are subjective personal issues.

Sorry but box office and quality do go hand in hand, if the movie makes great box office it is considered a good movie to the studios.

I don't understand anymore what a comic/toy movie even has to be to be a great movie to "fans" , some else will always think he movies you like suck and vice versa.

Agreed, Blockbusters are just events. Just because you make money doesnt mean its any good. As fans we just settle for any crap, however If Marvel treated their films like that there would be an uproar!

Exactly. The trailers for AOE were awesome, but they are the best bits in the movie. Transformers may make loads of money but it's credibility has suffered.

This is unfortunate news. That means at least another 3 years until we can possible see a real Transformers movie. I blame the execs at Paramount. They are looking at the money only, and don't realize that its the brand people are paying for..not Bay.

Did anyone else see this? (NSFW turtles by Bay)

That's from the Onion which posts only satire news and for the umpteenth time, Bay is only producing not directing TMNT which is looking good so far.

from movies, to tv shows, to toys, to games, if you have any taste or standards you're going to catch a lot of hate from the mindless sheep.

The studios don't give a Ratrap's rear end about good or bad they just want the box office. So I'm not going to judge a film on if the accountant at Paramount is happy or not.

When I go to rent a film I don't go to Box Office Mojo to decide if a film is going to be good enough for me or not. Sometimes I like films that made lots of money and sometimes the big money makers just stink.

Big Trouble in Little China made $11 million at the box office but if it's a choice between Big Trouble in Little China or the latest Adam Sandler film I'll take Big Trouble in Little China over Blended even if Blended did make more money.

Man of Steel made a boat load of money but that doesn't make it any less disappointing if emo Superman wasn't your thing. No one says I didn't like the movie until I checked out the box office return so now I must like the film.

If Disney bought Hasbro we'd get some good TF movies.

This times infinity. Disney would actually get a director with class and and a screenwriter who actually, gee I don't know, writes a thought out and cohesive story. We'd finally get a Transformers movie with heart, and a good story. It doesn't even have to be some above and beyond totally new story that changes cinema forever. It just has to be good. I am sick of the garbage Bay has put out. I just want a good Transformers movie. Is it too much to fucking ask for that? Can we at least get something with Marvel quality? I saw Guardians of the Galaxy yesterday, and I enjoyed it so much. That's a movie right there. Not the most original story, but it worked and it fit in well the rest of the MCU.
