Hey guys! Time for a review of something I'm really excited about!

    SDCC Kreon Class of 1984!

The box-set comes in a box meant to resemble a Year book, congratulating the Graduating Cybertron Class of 1984! It's a pretty excellent box, each Kreon is organized in alphabetical order and given a title that reflects their personality quirks, just like a real Year Book! A lot of thought has been put into it and it makes for a great display piece.

    Arcee-Prom Queen

Arcee is first up, who has been awarded the Prom Queen. Probably because she's the token girl in the set. I'd have loved Elita-1! She's done up to resemble her on-screen appearance with her decals and comes with two guns.

Compared to her Micro-Changer counterpart, she has far more detail and is a much darker pink. I love the body of the SDCC Arcee, but I prefer the face of the Micro Changer.

    Bluestreak- Class Chatterbox

Why aren't you silver!? Not really sure why they went with blue here. He's based on the toy, which has always been silver!

Compared to the original, he has MUCH more detail. Both are blue... Ugh.

    Brawn- Class Jock

The tough guy is looking pretty good here, but honestly I don't have much attachment to the character.

He's actually quite similar to his Microchanger counterpart, although he substitutes a mouth for the toy-accurate face-plate.

    Bumblebee- Best Spark

In all the hundreds of Bumblebees, this is the first with a toy-accurate face-plate! Really sets him apart. Considering these guys are toy-accurate, I'm not really sure what's up with the door wings, though...

Compared with previous 'Bees he definitely stacks up well against them. I love the face-plate, but I ultimately prefer the details on the Custom Kreon Bumblebee.

    Cliffjumper- Most Fearless

Cliffjumper is also given door wings. Bizarre.

Cliffjumper looks pretty good compared to his counterparts. Its excellent to have one that has the red horns without being clear.

    Frenzy- Most Spirited

FIRRIB! Kre-O knows what's up! I love these guys. It is such a good idea to use the mini minifig parts so that they work with the others. The two cassettes are the highlight of the box-set to me.

    Gears- Class Grouch

Another character who's getting their first time in Kreon form, Gears looks pretty good.

    Hound- Friendliest

Notable for being the first time we've gotten Hound outside of Custom Kreons. He looks pretty good. He came with a huge cannon in grey (the same that Custom Ironhide has chromed) but I just could not get it out of the packaging without fear of snapping it in two.

Sadly he's missing his star on his shoulder like the Custom has, I'm sure this guy is a good incentive for a lot of people, considering the after-market prices on Custom Wave 2.

    Huffer- Biggest Rust Bucket

Not really sure what trivia the title is referring to, but Huffer comes off pretty "meh" in the box-set. I like the face-plate and the details but...

... Micro-Changer Huffer pulls off the look far better, except for the head.

Ironhide- Best Bot to bring home to Primus

What a strange title! Anyway, this is a really good Ironhide. The use of Wheeljack's door wings is puzzling though, because I don't think Ironhide has ever had door wings, no matter the incarnation.

Surprisingly less detail then the Custom Kreon. I prefer the Custom Kreon in most ways.

    Jazz- Most Rad

    The silver visor looks awesome!

Compared to the previous Jazz, he has far more detail then the original but less then the Custom. The Custom wins out, although the silver visor is definitely excellent.

    Megatron- Best Frenemies (With Starscream)

The title! :lol ! Megatron looks great with his toy-accurate deco. I love the swirly lines on his chest, although his face is a bit awkward.

Compared to the others, he holds up really well. The details on his chest really sets him apart from the others.

    Mirage- Best Dressed

Mirage is so fancy. The toy-accurate blue eye area is a little unsettling, but otherwise Mirage looks pretty good.

Much more detail then the original!

Optimus Prime- Most likely to succeed

He looks good, but its G1 Optimus. There's not a lot you can do to set him apart. He's the first one to have a nose, so I guess there's that! :lol

He looks pretty similar to his other two G1 versions, particularly the Custom, although he has better leg detailing. Not particularly exciting, but still very cool.

    Perceptor- Class Brain

Um, this is awkward, Perceptor. You're not actually from 1984, or was he put up a class? His toy-accurate face-plate is pretty unique. He comes with a clear blue plate which I assume is supposed to be a datapad.

I really like the toy-accurate face, but the Micro-Changer is definitely the definitive version. The microscope makes the character!

    Prowl- Best Logic Processor

One of my favourite characters, Prowl's looking pretty great. No "POLICE" on the door wings though. Boo.

Much, much, much more detail then the original. I just dislike the lack of the word on his wings, but nothing a quick swap won't fix instantly.

    Ratchet- Class Fixer

For the first time ever, Ratchet can see! It's not perfect, but thank god they finally made his eyes be in a place where the crest doesn't cover them. He comes with a syringe for medical purposes, I guess. Like, Ironhide, he comes with seemingly unnecessary Wheeljack wings.

Much more detail then the original as well as the ability to see. I don't have it, but the Prime Ratchet also suffered from crest-related blindness.

Rumble- Most likely to shake things up

RIBFIR! Rumble, like Frenzy, looks fantastic. The arm cannon pile-drivers works really well to sell it as Rumble. The blue one.

    Shockwave-Best Optics

Shockwave comes with a toy-accurate clear purple arm cannon and another clear purple... Thing. Goblet? Is he drinking?

EDIT: It's a conical flask! He's holding it upside down! Silly me!

Much more detail then the original, plus his cannon is the right color.

    Skrapnel- Most Repetitive, Repetitive

Another first, its Shrapnel in the correct colors, finally completing the Insecticons! Love the title nodding to his verbal quirk.

Here is compared to Micro Changer Skrapnel, who's actually Zap-Trap, a redeco of Shrapnel. You can see that his back claws are way better then the SDCC Shrapnel's. Sadly none of the SDCC come with anything brick built.

    Sideswipe- Prom King

Sideswipe's the Prom King! Will he and Arcee fall in love on the dance floor? He comes with a white Ion Cannon to represent his white rocket launcher.

As usual, much, much more detail then the original.

    Skywarp- Most Punctual

Skywarp has lots of purple on him and great lengths are taken to make him toy-accurate, including the tail fins on his feet. My Skywarp is badly mis-printed. His face is put on diagonally!

Skywarp is far more purple, compared to the originals black, which is a bit jarring because I always thing of him as black over purple, but the extra detail definitely makes up for it. If only it wasn't for that mis-print...

    Soundwave- Class Gossip

Soundwave comes with a back-piece to attack his gun to, in order to represent his shoulder cannon. It works quite well. Underneath his face-plate, there's nothing, unlike the other versions which had a speaker. Boo.

More detail on his chest and legs then the Custom, but I actually prefer the look of the Custom Kreon over him except for the visor.

    Starscream- Best Frienemies (With Megatron)

Starscream comes in white, but either then that is very toy-accurate. The face doesn't scream "Starscream" to me though. He comes with Megatron in gun-mode, but lacks Null Rays.

Compared to the others, this Starscream has more detail on his legs. Custom Kreon is my favourite still.

    Sunstreaker- Best Looking

A first, before the new wave of micro changers, Sunstreaker has some yellow decals in order to sell it as himself and looks pretty darn great! I prefer this helmet to the upcoming Micro-Changers use of Wheeljack's. He comes with a gun-arm, which is very loose on my figure.

    Thundercracker- Most Indecisive

The last of the Seekers, Thundercracker is once again made to be every toy accurate. Like Skywarp, but unlike Starscream, Null Rays are included.

As per usual, much, much more detail then the original. He's also a far lighter blue and a black helmet, which works much better as TC.

    Trailcutter- Class Clown

The second (nearly third) version of Trailbreaker! He looks pretty mopey, must be on the drink again. Weird that he doesn't have a face-plate like his original toy had.

He has much more detail then the original, but I think the head of the original Micro-Changer works much better for Trailcutter. Swap the heads and you have a winner.

    Ultra Magnus- Teacher's Pet

Another first and another highlight of the set is Ultra Magnus! It's a shame they didn't find a way to make a convincing armoured up version (G1 Galvatron's head in blue and white would work well...) but it's still excellent to finally have such an important character in my Kreon Collection. His title is hilarious, too.

Wheeljack- Most Likely to Blow himself up

Wheeljack is all visored up, just as his original toy was. The silver on the helmet is excellent and much appreciated.

The original was based on Prime, while this one is toy-accurate to G1. Either then the visor, this one is a clear winner with far better deco and details.

Windcharger- Most likely to run out of Energon

Last but not least is the guy with the magic hands! He has a toy-accurate face-plate and door-wings. Not sure what's up with the door-wings though, seems he took a page from 'Bee and Cliffjumper.

Much more detail then the original Micro-Changer, plus the addition of door-wings.

So that's the Kreons, but there's more! The set also comes with quite a few cool accessories to sell the "80's School" theme!

There's a Rubiks Cube, VHS and Floppy Disk (both say "TF"), a mullet wig, some hairspray, a retro cell-phone, a stereo, an "I love '84" sign...

... And even cooler, a ticket to see the Knights of Unicron and Transformers the Movie Record, complete with a pic of Ultra Magnus!

But even better and another huge highlight of the set are Buzzsaw, Ravage and Laserbeak is cassette mode! Just too awesome!!

So that's the set! I hope you enjoyed it! I am really happy with everything in this set, I personally think its the best SDCC exclusive we've gotten!

Here's some pics to show off what you can do now...

The Season One Decepticons are complete! (Minus poor Reflector...)

... And so are the Ark's Autobots! (all available in the set)

You just know somebody had a blast making this set.

It's interesting how much more detailed Kreons have gotten, perhaps too detailed. Like do they really need all the extra lines in the nose? I think just one trapezoid would've sufficed.
They almost look out of place with the older Kreons....

The door wings are strange, perhaps just to add a few more parts to the overall set? I know if I ever got this set they'd just go into the parts bin.

Same here. This is an awesome set, but the two cassette twins are the only ones I really *need*

I can't help but wonder if Huffer was actually supposed to be Pipes. It would explain all the blue, the visor, the "pipe" on his arm, and the "rust bucket" bit (being that emitting corrosive gasses was his special feature in the G1 bio).

    Neat set overall, though.

Nah, he's definately Huffer. Perhaps it would've worked better had his helmet been the same colour as his legs, but there's no doubt it was based on the original toy.

Heh. You're absolutely right. I guess I should have double checked G1 Huffer beforehand.

    Theory withdrawn! :D

If you are wondering about Huffer's Title-
It's because he was a big crybaby in the cartoon. Was always complaining about having to go on missions, kind of looked like he would have been in tears, which would have rusted him.

Thanks for posting those pictures, your thoughts on the set and comparison pictures! I've only a few Kreons but I'm tempted to pick this solely because I can get all the MTMTE cast (sans Reflector) all at once!

    Thanks for the detailed review!
Not my cup of tea, but I've been very curious since it was announced. For a collector-oriented exclusive, I'm surprised the paint apps are so sloppy and inconsistent. Quite a few look angled, or off-center. I wonder if they're all like that...

Can't wait to get this set in hand but I'm kind of disappointed by the paint apps. They look sloppy on some and in some cases almost as bad as some of the shitty customs I've seen lol. Hope mine has limited defects.
