I was actually, but I was expecting Sentinel to be a minor character that was quickly killed off because I knew they'd never let him upstage Optimus like the toy bios suggested.

 

Unfortunately not. Got spoiled by the comic preview like so many others. Had that not happened, I imagine I would have been though

While I can understand the logic behind it, I think that would have just pissed off so many more people off, and the movies get enough hate as it is. It works for Sentinel Prime because before-hand he wasn't too involved in anything besides the comics and Animated, so you've got a lot of leway with the character. But Ultra Magnus is a character a lot of people would have some awareness of, and fans of the franchise typically associate him with up-tight, law-abiding Autobot, and having him betray the Autobots would have been taking things a step too far I think

 

Shockwave's appearance in Chernobyl wasn't random at all . . . he was there to convince the Autobots -- to trick them into taking the bait set by Laserbeak.

He (Shocky) got away, without a fight . . . he could have fought, but instead just pretended like he was also after the engine part, which set in motion OP's search for the Ark.

 

Yes, I was surprised. I heard of Ironhide dying but not who killed him, even then I thought they were throwing me off. Helped that I was not on the internet checking news all the time at that point of time.

 

i gotta be honest...i was completely shocked..and i remember as it was happening i was thinking omg this movie is amazing...then it turned to shit..but that part is 1 of the highlights of the series..if only they kept in the twins..so dumb..what's literally 2 more minutes of screentime gonna do?

 

Meh, I don't think Bay or Krueger give all that much a crap about ticking off the fans, since only the fans would have any real clue who Ultra Magnus is, let alone Sentinel Prime.

If his job is the protection of Cybertron above all else, I don't think it'd be all that big a step.

 

I was literally speechless when I saw his betrayal. Now, I knew he was going to betray the Autobots, but I had no idea how much he was going to.

 

I wasn't, because his toy has a scratch on the Autobot logo, so I did the math and yeah, I expected him to be a traitor.

 

Didn't know about the leak but you knew going in that he wouldn't replace Prime permanently so you know he had to die at some point or leave Earth or something Spock only takes orders from Kirk and Pike.

Was pretty obvious once he was getting pissed they took his stuff.

 

When I saw it happen i wasnt surprised at all, because a was spoiled but still I kind of already figured that he was evil, I was just angry the whole movie about Shockwave not being in it much.

 

I didn't know before hand.... but it wasn't a suprise. The only suprise was killing Ironhide....  

 

I was spoiled, but not surprised by the spoiler. Well, Ironhide dying was a surprise. Sentinel being a traitor wasn't.

 

I think if you were on the movie boards around the time of that comic leak then there's a good chance it was spoiled. I also remember some asshat troll made it a thread title so yeah, it was pretty much well known before the movie came out that he was a turncloak.

It is the same with me. I never read anything about the movie or looked at anything online so when it happened I was surprised. I can see how people on here may have got pissed by the comic leak though.

But its still annoying that Shockwave wasn't at the Africa meeting. Or standing with Megatron while Sentinel first opened the space bridge to allow an army through. He was underground with the driller throughout the film!

too bad they cut out the Twins getting killed by Sentinel Prime also...lol

I was really looking forward to movie Shockwave. What an absolutely colossal waste.

They took one of the greatest TF characters, a scientific genius - even a rival to Megatron - and downgraded him into an almost anonymous minion. Most people who watched DOTM probably still don't know who Shockwave was.

I also didn't like the fact that they turned Sentinel Prime into a bad guy. OK, Animated Sentinel (who he was clearly based on) wasn't the ideal Autobot, but I figured that there was still a chance for him to sort out his issues - eventually.

Instead, right after movie Megatronus (another wasted character), we get another bad Prime.


(Primes seemed to have changed over the years. At one time they were all noble individuals worthy of being chosen by the Matrix, but lately there's now the concept of 'unworthy' Primes. What exactly makes a Prime a Prime these days?)
