The majority of the premium leader class or $60 dollars and up toys usually shelf warm until they are heavily discounted. I don't think a single Leader prime or Grimlock has been sold at my local target or TRU. No wonder retailers shy away from premium/expensive toys; they can't get rid of them. Definitely worried about the farmageddon set and how they will be distributed... For MPs we are stuck with TRU unless they offer them directly from HTS, which baffles the mind why they still refuse to do so. TRU exclusivity probably renews with use and has them in a chokehold considering they continue to consistently muck it up with every release.

So the mark up is due to box real estate? Man... You could fit all four releases and order extras/gifts whatever in that box... Considering the crap they have been getting away with recently at TRU with these MP releases, I'm not really surprised... I'd like to know the differences and what is included too. For that price he better have chromed weapons and be fully painted... and include Silverstreak lol.   Joking aside, at the least, this should be the absolute best version of the toy if the price holds.

I'd guess he'd be around 60 stateside as well, but probably closer to 70ish when he hits and gets a mark up. If that is the case it would probably be cheaper to find the takara elsewhere.

Great to hear. Since I'm getting a part-time job, I might be able to buy my figures myself, and Masterpiece Prowl is on my list.

 

Butchered is a little bit harsh, no body cares about the box. Hell, many people take the toy out as soon as possible and throw the box away, including with Takara MPs.

I was seriously just in my local Hobby store and they had the Takara import for $90, which I think is too much. Asking for $100 is just disgraceful. I guess it's no longer worthwhile hoping for Hasbro releases.

 

Takara MP boxes are different, the simple black design & the pixs of the toys nicely posed makes them more of a collectors item.

I never throw the Takara MP boxes.

 

That's 1 big box for such a smaller toy...Nice for you minty box collectors though who are getting all the US MPs.

Are you saying you've seen a specific character from a wave prices higher then the other characters in the wave. Who in what wave?

I think you must be mistaken, because I'm fairly sure that it is literally not possible for them to take certain figures in a wave and change the price of just that one character in the wave. I've certainly never seen anything similar to that. TRU Australia are still stupidly expensive though.

 

Who would buy a Prowl that's the exact same one as the TakaTom one, and double the price? And what's with the oversized box? I really don't understand this release.

 

They should have made this as a set of three datsuns or gift set with sideswipe with that bigbox. Just like what they did with Hasbro Soundwave and all cassettes.

I think it's the other way around. They were planning to sell him at $60 since it's a Masterpiece and made the box big to justify the price.

He popped up at RK with a $99 tag? Is that confirmation he's going to be around 69 here? Sunstorm is listed as 129... so 99? Disguise the hike by hiking up the price of the seeker mold as well...? Devious. Prowl might be the same price as that reissued Grimlock... let that sink in lol.

I believe both figures will sellout regardless which is saddening... Falls in line with what they have been doing with it though, which is trying to actively kill MP sales in the US.   Maybe we deserve it for being complacent and acceptive of the crap they have done and continue to do (decos we don't want, wildly varying qc issues, horrendous distribution, etc.).

 

Has anyone actually purchased the TRU prowl so we can see comparisons with the Takara one? It seems like they're all just posts showing its overpriced, haha.

 

LOL. Outside the US, it makes more sense to get the Takara one unless you're a completionist, so no one has bitten yet.

 

I agree with others. Having just Prowl, in this huge box is insane at this price for a domestic release. They should have offered a giftpack with multiple cars in it, if they wanted to charge this much..

and another pack that has:

another
3) Red Alert and SmokeScreen
another
4) Wheel Jack and Bumblebee/Spike

I am a huge masterpiece fan and have been from the get go of the series. I even read the comics. I would much rather buy from Hasbro. I should be a shoe-in for getting all of these, But this is now the 4th release in a row I am skipping.

2) YOTH Prime - Gold? nice way to ruin MP10. PASS
3) SunStorm - Pass. Pisses me off that Hasbro will not give us a retooled StarScream and Skywarp. I have been patiently waiting, but at this point, Im probably going to go with a Takara.
4) Prowl - Bought a Takara, why bother with the Hasbro at this price and time?

Only release that was decent was Soundwave. And we all fought over him like Children in the stores because everyone wanted one because there were not enough made, for the one item Habro got right. It was shameful. Im really beginning to think that Hasbro just plain sucks. They do nothing creative with this series, they just use the molds Takara artisits create. Distribution has been horrible. Pricing is all over the place.

 

Target had Takara's Masterpiece Ultra Magnus (MP-02) in Australia. They kept the shelf warm for a long time, which was not surprising given it was an expensive repaint of an incomplete character.
