You're talking as if he's made a big fuss about it. He hasn't. On a personal question site he was asked what he thought about it and he gave his opinion. He didn't go and rant and rave and make a big blog post or anything.

What the hell?! Lockdown is an excellent transition from cartoon to movie. Complain about sideswipe or some shit.
    Still Black/Gray
    Still has hook
    Still has spikes
    Still has skull-like face
    Still a cold badass
Still a bounty hunter with no allegiance to Autobots or Decepticons
Still has a badass car mode

    what more do you want?

True, the overall character of Lockdown is intact with this incarnation, but the look isn't as memorable. The only things anyone really remembers about the way Lockdown looks in the film is the gun-face. And yes, that's cool. But beyond that, he's grey, bland, and rather generic-looking, truth be told. Thin, tall, almost skeletal 'bot with a wide variety of colors across his body due to his many, many upgrades? THAT is Lockdown. Robot with a face that turns into a gun and transforms into an Aventador? That... could have been some other Bayverse Decepticon very easily.

Don't get me wrong. I like Lockdown. Of all the villains in the live-action films thus far, he is by far the most competent and intimidating. But his design does not scream "Bounty hunter" to me.

gotta agree that he really doesn't feel lockdown enough... he needs more assymmetry and i was totally off the mark when i thought mark ryan could match henriksen. don't get me wrong, his voice was great, but it just didn't fit lockdown imo.

the face and its many mods were definitely lockdown though.

One question that has been on my mind:

Where/when did Attinger find the time to form an alliance with Lockdown?

    I'd hardly call missiles "spikes."

Its very easy to miss. Heck, none of the toys have them there either.

Yes, he has spikes on his shoulders, but that's still nothing compared to Animated Lockdown who has spikes everywhere on both robot and car modes, which is probably what they meant when they said that.

Honestly, I thought Lockdown was one of the best characters we've ever had in the movies. He had the arrogant, cruel personality, he didn't care about the war, only himself, his human like face is a great change from all the Decepticon monsters, and all of the weapons he has on his body are perfectly in line with his character.

All in all, I loved the guy.

Lockdown's vehicle mode not matching his Animated or IDW incarnations is perfectly explainable. He needs to blend in. A cobbled together Mad Max muscle car would stick out even more than an expensive Lamborghini. His character design is going to reflect his alternate mode, at least a little bit, and so would be more monochromatic than his Animated form.

As for the rest of his character, he is a bounty hunter in the employ of some....thing. He has no allegiance to either faction, no interest in the war. He's got an awesome ship chocked full of trophies he's collected over the eons. He's terrifyingly competent and willing to work with anyone who he thinks he can benefit from.

I concur. I have the utmost respect for Derrick J. Wyatt he is immensely talented... but I must respectfully disagree. When it was revealed that the mystery gunface character was Lockdown at first my reaction was "he doesn't look like Lockdown" but when I pulled up images of the Animated incarnation I see a lot of design elements that carried over.

He has a skull like face, a bunch of trophies in his ship (Particularly the Dinobots), a pretty kick ass car mode, and shoulder spikes.

Seriously, there's finaly a villain that's true to the original and people dismiss it as a nameslap who acts like the original.
If that's not being idiotic, idk what is.

"nor a car mode that could kill you"

    ...seriously?

That reminds me of a quote from MST3k's 'Wild World of Batwoman' comments:

Tiger: "they can't even hurt you...come on."

Crow: "Well, if they hit you at 90 miles an hour they could hurt you."

He is very similar to animated lockdown- hook, base color, skull/round head, spikes, neck tendrils nice looking REALISTIC vehicle mode, and heck even the body is similar even if just a little... The character is similar too, no faction-bounty hunter who is ancient and has a death grip on prime and ratchet. And a commandeered ship, like The Deaths Head .

Sometime during the four years between DOTM and AOE. Four years seems like a sizable amount of time to me.

I think Derrick had his own ideas about how movie Lockdown should have been portrayed. A lot of people like the movie version (especially considering how other TF characters have been treated), but I suspect that if Mr Wyatt had been involved, he might have been even more interesting. And he probably knows it.

Many of us here are disappointed how some of the movie TFs turned out. Imagine if you had been involved in the creation of some of those characters in the first place.

seems odd not to bring up the points the original writer had in mind. especially if you are his friend as you say.

this is a one sided debate, not that much to think upon.

I personally loved the movie portrayal of Lockdown, definitely far more accurate to the source material than the vast majority of the movie cast over the years. My biggest fear going into the theater was that Lockdown would be another generic grunt that only shared a name and rough design with an established character like DotM Shockwave. Thankfully that wasn't the case.

If I had any minor nitpicks it would be that he didn't harvest a weapon from his prey (something that was a core habit in animated) and he mass shifts an absurd amount. I know Lockdown has the distinction of being an absurdly large deluxe from his previous figures but I think Optimus height is stretching it.

I didn't like his lack of interaction with Drift but those problems were more due to Drift's lack of characterization than anything else and that is a different topic all together.

I roleplay as Prime Ratchet and he's regularly out to kill me. Either by feeding me my own processor Hannibal style, or ripping out my spark or something. It gets crazy in that roleplay.

Derrick's not a big fan of the films - though he does like some designs like Blackout, Barricade and Frenzy, Optimus, Long Haul, and Sentinel - but he's not being irrational about it. I'll ask him how he would've felt if they put the ROTF design on screen. I just disagree on whether Lockdown's true to the character or not. And I did say what he said about why he feels AOE Lockdown isn't true to the character. And I'm sure someone is gonna link this thread to him.
