yeah.. lockdown killing ratchet was surprising to me.. i had no idea lockdown was working with humans.. it was an awesome surprise.. and the way ratchet died was heartbreaking.. i loved it. yeah, it surprised me, and really surprised my dad as well.. i can't recall them ever killing off a human character like that. also.. galvatron going rogue on his first mission AND speaking was very surprising. i REALLY enjoyed that.. i think it's a great new but still classic origin story for galvatron. i was also surprised how big a role he actually played in the movie.. having all of his minions wake up and follow him, i thought that was awesome. hopefully they introduce scourge and cyclonus in TF5. lastly, i knew i was going to love lockdown.. but i didn't know just how much.. EASILY my favorite movie villain, it's a shame they killed him at the end.. i know people are tired of resurrections, but i hope he gets resurrected. oh.. and one more.. i was surprised at how much robot time the dinobots got.. i definitely didn't expect that. man, i loved this movie. lol.
surprises: -The brutalness of Ratchets Death -Lockdown being a complete merciless badass -The autobots getting a lot of screentime -The human made transformers transformation style -Galavatron really being reincarnated Megatron -Hound using parts of his arm to beat decepticons with when he ran out of ammo. -Optimus killing the main human bad guy.
I stayed away from alot of the TV spots a couple of weeks prior to the film so there were alot of nice suprises for me. The biggest one for me was that I had no clue Lockdown had formed an alliance with Attinger and that he would be the one to kill Ratchet.
Seeing Optimus that first time. Pretty gut wrenching feeling. Ratchet. I thought they would kill him off quickly with just a quick chance to surrender. I definitely didn't think it would be drawn out like that. Lockdown's ship. I didn't expect we would get a full scene with the Autobots on the ship let alone full sequences. It was incredible work by ILM
For some reason lockdown really surprised me. I like the way he was portrayed and built.Nicely built.
Brains serving a purpose. Also, Savoy saying he lost a sister in Chicago. Wish they put some more focus on that, instead of Tucci chewing the scenery.
Although it was a quick thing, I was caught off-guard by Joshua when he said "How do you say get the FUCK out of the way in chinese?" I was just like whoa, sudden f-bomb!
Hmm. Lets see: Ratchet's death. Lucas's death. Galvatron actually being Megatron. Spoiler Heck, I was surprised that the plot of AoE was essentially the plot of the first season of Animated. Rainbow Dash's cameo (I just found it amusing. ) Prime killing Attinger.
The way Lucas died surprised me. I also liked the fact Lockdown kinda had a look at his handiwork too before exiting the scene. How pissed Prime got in the KSI break in. I would happily have more of that Prime any day. Finally the way Scorn got his first kills by becoming effectively a giant spiked meteorite, that scene just cracked me up.
Lockdown working with humans. Optimus freaking out upon awakening. Drift being a helicopter. Crosshairs being a dick. Galvatron being possessed by Megatron during his first appearance. "Recognize one of your Knights." I really didn't see anything of that sort coming. The way all those guys banded together to help Optimus in the final battle.
Optimus being scared and terrified when Cade wakes him up, and pretty much his entire role in the film, with how emotional he is. My jaw was permanently open the majority of his lines. Peter Cullen was amazing. It's always really great to see an Optimus with range, and here he showed the most range since Fall of Cybertron and DOTM. It was great to have a human Optimus back after three years of stoic bore Prime Optimus.
Lockdown dying. They finally build up a bad ass villain only to have him killed in the end. I wish they would have saved Lockdown's return to Earth for the sequel. They should have made his last appearance the scene of him flying away, then open up TF5 with him realizing Prime is gone. It would have let people speculate about him for a couple of years....having that one BAD ASS wild card somewhere in the galaxy that can show up anytime and wreak you.
I hope Galvatron in TF5 does something where somehow he successfully revives Lockdown to be his new 2nd in command, and throughout the film constant tension is displayed throughout the both of them due to Lockdown's extreme reluctance to align himself to the Decepticon cause. Both of them plus the "creators" would be sufficient amount of villains in TF5. One thing I was surprised the most was how many villains were in TF4 and how they were all handled well. Attinger and Savoy; the latter at least didn't behave like the former's subordinate even though he technically is. Joshua; bad guy at first before seemingly becoming a good guy at the end. Loveable character. Galvatron; yeah he didn't get too much screentime but at least I love how they saved him for TF5 instead of killing him. Lockdown; 'nuff said. That's like 5 different villains. Yet unlike ASM2 or SM3, no one complains about the film having too many villains. Lol.
When Cade was fighting Savoy, and they show him almost gouge out an eye. I was pretty shocked and several people in the theater gasped, then they cut to another angle and his eye was fine... should have at least had him fight with the eye closed the rest of the time. I was actually expecting a little blood there!
Lucas dying almost surprised me - however they slowed the scene down so while watching it became obvious he would die even before he died (As I already knew he wouldn't be appearing later in the film) As for surprising moments, think the boosters take the cake, they were never used before and just used for two scenes and then the film ended... In terms of villains, people complained about SM3 because; - Venom was underused and didn't accurately represent the original designs enough - Sandman was another sympathetic villain and his backstory was tied too strongly into Uncle Ben's death - New Goblin had the awkward 'butler scene' and a plot convenience memory loss In terms of villains, people complained about ASM2 because; - Electro was essentially a 'Riddler' villain and his motivations made little sense, he was also defeated too easily - Green Goblin got about 5 minutes of screen time and only killed Gwen - Rhino got about 3 minutes of screen time and did nothing that affected the plot In terms of villains, people will likely complain about AOE because; - As you stated, Savoy didn't act like a subordinate despite him meant to be one - Attinger in truth doing little other than give orders, threaten Cade twice then die - Joshua's motivations not making sense and his change of sides not being effectively handled - Galvatron having about 5 minutes of screen time and did nothing that affected the plot
