IMHO, there were no need for decepticons, as Prime was pretty dark in this movie. I have been watching since the 80's, and never would I ever think that he would kill Frasier from cheers. If memory serves when the stunticons were created in G1, the humans thought the stunticons were autobots and opened fire on them, and Prime ordered a stand down. Granted, he saw his friends being scrapped in order to make humanoid transformers, but I still see him killing and think, wow! Even him saying he would do it is enuf. But seeing it was beyond belief. If megatron were around he would even be shocked to have seen it happen. Alpha Trion is rollin in his grave.. Orion Pax, what have you done..

Okay if somebody killed all of your friends and families what would you do go dark or be a wuss and not do anything about it? Optimus had the rights to be dark and kill the person or people who was responsible for their actions.

Optimus killed Attinger because he was about to kill Cade. He also shot up those people at the barn because they were going to kill Cade and his daughter.

 

Pretty darned heroic if you ask me.

 

movie-verse is movie-verse..it's it's own kinda world that features different incarnations of characters from other verses....this optimus prime is a little unstable...but after millions of years homeless & at war & seeing countless of his friends and foe, his kind alike killed, not to mention betrayal from not just his own kind (Sentinel) but now his last remaining allies (humans) i'll give him a pass when he sees insects enjoying their slaughter.


in short, this prime is a different interpretation of the G1 prime from the cartoons clearly..this is "bay-prime" if you will.

I grew up with optimus being something of a moral standard, I watched the original cartoon movie in theaters and was hurt as I watched him die, I am NOT saying he is wrong for doing it, I am just saying it is as if Jesus came back to earth and killed George Bush for going to war with Iraq, it would so make sense, but it would seem odd to have him say and do it...Does that make sense?

For one thing, Jesus and Optimus? Despite the joke about them dying, are very different.

Jesus never held a gun to anybody and was about to blow his brains out, for one thing.

yeah the writing in the film is terrible but this subject is really old.
you won't get anything out of it here because people will defend the bad writing non stop.
