I re-watched the first three movies before seeing AoE last night, and I think AoE is the best of the bunch.

    What I liked:
    - The new cast of Autobots. They all have distinct personalities and are all really cool characters. They have interesting dynamics between themselves and some great lines. Their designs are unique, and Drift is a freaking triple-changer. Drift is my favorite, but Hound is a close second.
    - The new human cast was good overall. Mark Wahlberg is a way better lead than Shia LaBeouf ever could be. Grammer and Tucci also do really well in their respective roles.
    - LOCKDOWN. He carries the bad guy side of the movie and does it very well. Very intimidating and brutal, and probably the best villain the TF movie series has seen.
    - The humor is much better in general this time around. Lots of one-liners, and the interaction between the Autobots is often funny (Drift reciting a haiku, followed by Hound's reaction, was great). Tucci had the best comedy role, IMO.
    - The CGI was excellent, and the robot designs really popped. Everything was sharp and colorful.
    - The Dinobots were awesome, and their robot modes are pretty close to the toy versions.
    - Lots of foreshadowing and possible lead-ins to future storylines that have a lot of potential.
    - Optimus is a much more dynamic character in this one.
    - Welker as Galvatron.
    - The battle at KSI and Optimus's interaction with Tucci was well done.
    - Optimus wasting Attinger was satisfying.
    - Bumblebee's reaction to the KSI video about Stinger was a riot.
    - Optimus's final line as he flies out into space was a great ending, really gets me excited to see what's next.
    - Overall more serious, gritty tone. I think Bay really tried to make AoE a big improvement over the first three movies, and I think he did a good job of it. Like I said to one of my coworkers, it feels like a reboot without actually being one.

    What I didn't like:
    - Dinobots don't talk. I wish they'd given Grimlock just one line (and mentioned his name).
    - Not a fan of the human-created robots' transformations. Hopefully they just stick to the traditional transformations in the next movie.
    - Lucas fell flat as comedic relief for the most part (how many times does a person need to describe something as "scary"?)
    - Galvatron was pretty much a background character, but I don't mind too much if they're setting him up to play a central role in the future.
    - Lack of any "real" Decepticons
    - Shane is a bit of a throwaway character

Dude, you're not supposed to take pictures when you go the movies (and much less film the action on the screen), that's illegal.

Oh, please let this be true! It bothered me so much to see Optimus shoot a human (yes, yes I know it was to save Cade, still didn't like it, felt out of character for Prime). But I think there was enough blood covering Attinger to suggest death, rather than just being knocked out. Though if your theory is true, then we can look forward to Attinger popping up in the next movie.

I thought it was so odd that Attinger has a deck of playing cards with the Transformers on them; almost felt like Bay grabbed a promotional deck for the movie and then printed giant red 'X' 's over the characters. I would have expected Attinger to toss on the table a file with the Autobots' pictures in it. But I guess, a deck of cards makes Attinger...more evil and menacing? (Muahahahaha! Fear me and my evil deck of playing cards with red X's!)

I was wondering if we would see that Silver Knight Optimus Prime happen on screen but it didn't. Making the Takara toy inaccurate. Glad I didn't buy it! :p

I am quite certain on that, Prime's barrel was pointing downwards, and then a small orange fireball burst in the ground in front Attinger's feet, same as that had happened to those agents out side of the C's barn.

Thank, Primus! Now, Prime's actions seem so much more in character. You're eyes are better than mine, that detail was lost to me in all of the 3D. So...return of Attinger in the next movie?

Also I thought this was funny. Before you leave the theater they have these Box Office magazines by the door as free giveaways. I snagged one just because it had the AoE poster as the cover. But inside they supposedly gathered some of fan-reviews of what they liked best about Bay movies in general. And, I'm not kidding, the review, in its entirety, about RotF was, and I quote: "I saw it at a theater that serves alcohol and when my dad fell asleep half way through, I drank his beer. Thanks, Dad!"

Okay, here we go. Non-spoiler review of Transmorfers: Edge of Extinguishment. I'm posting this at the risk of getting a lot of hate but here goes.

It's better than the last two movies, but it's mediocre at best.

Mark Wahlberg is Cade Yeager (Yeager? Really? Just because of Pacific Rim?) and Nicole Peltz is Tesa, his daughter. Together they perform a better human-side story than whatever the hell we were watching the last three times. The acting was a lot better and the characters were not acting like ******ed caricatures or parodies of secret agents or government representatives and shit.

The amount of time given to the Transformers themselves has increased, and the quality of the time is also much better. You get commendable showcasing of Crosshair's and Hound's personalities, and the interaction between the Autobots is fun to watch. Unfortunately it is a Michael Bay movie so there is no development after they mingle and exchange words with each other.

Lockdown, the villian, has about the same screen time as the Winter Soldier from Captain America. He's a lot more menacing than any other worthless excuses of villains from the last three movies.

    Now, the bad stuff.

Still some pointless human characters that add ZERO to the plot. They are literally just there to fill up more time and make the movie longer than it actually is. Pointless scenes of people doing random things that don't have any significance.

Excessive amount of action, explosions and slow-motion. Literally several minutes of car chasing scenes with human characters we don't give a crap about.

Same sloppy editing, continuity errors and plot holes. Going further into detail is spoilerific so I won't say more.

A certain number of Transformers, once again introduced and tossed aside. They are nothing more than a macguffin, an easy solution to a problem.

Overall, I give this movie 2/5. Better than the last two movies, but there's no excuse for bad filmmaking. This could be 3/5 tops for most people.

I didn't read any reviews because I didn't want to be prejudiced in any direction when seeing this movie. That being said, here's my take:

Ugh, what a terrible movie. I'll try to organize my thoughts a bit here for you, but it might be a little haphazard.

    - Overall the editing of the movie was terrible. Just as terrible as the original three. One minute OP and Lockdown are driving down a rural one lane road, the next they are barreling down the interstate, only to cut to the next scene where they are transformed and fighting on industrial buildings. Too choppy, even factoring in Bay style choppiness.

    - Bay one-liners. Geez, they are bad when the humans say them, even worse when supposed sentient giant robots who are supposed to be grizzled military veterans say them. 'chubby ballerina', really?

    - You can't have a sequel and a re-boot rolled into one film. A re-boot needs to reestablish origins and start fresh. A sequel needs to build on what has already been established. Trying to do both just made things confusing. Picking and choosing which parts of the original three films to keep and ignoring other parts made this seem more like b-rated fan fiction than anything legit.

    - The dinobots. While they did look cool and kick some ass, they were poorly done in my opinion. Their introduction and pseudo-origin was lame. So much potential squandered.

    - The whole 'Knight' thing. Reminds me of G.I. Joe in the early nineties where everybody needed to be a ninja. Now all the autobots need to be knights? I love the king arthur legend, but don't need it mixed in with my TF's.

    - All the beautiful cars. I get that product placement is important in these films, but TF's aren't just sports cars. With the exception of the dinobots almost every other TF was a car, and most were sports cars. Where are our jets, boats, trains, motorcycles, submarines, construction equipment, and appliances. I know this is essentially how G1 started, but by S3 this had changed quite a bit. We seem to be going backwards here. I love cars but I don't need The Fast and the Furious mixed with my TF's either. Diversity should be the rule here, not the exception.

    - I'm not liking the direction the TF's are going with their bot modes. Too organic for my tastes. I know there are differing opinions on this, but for me I want my robots to look like robots, not humans. They don't need beards, or beer guts, or samurai helmets. They are sentient beings with their own identities and culture. They don't need to borrow ours. Sure, you could write a reason for this into the story but that's lazy as far as I'm concerned.

There's more that I could elaborate on, but these were my major gripes. There were some positives though.

    - It was intense. Typical Bay style constant action, which I don't have any issues with.

    - Human acting was well done, even if character development was a bit iffy.

All in all, it was a typical bay movie, and usually I quite enjoy those. This one was just a bit too much and I really don't like the direction the franchise is going.

    What I liked:
    - The action scenes were a lot easier to follow this time and the Transformers weren't sidelined like in Dark of the Moon and Revenge of the Fallen. The action was freaking crazy even though I think they could have made some cuts to the final battle.
    - Mark Wahlberg is a much better protagonist that I cared about. I don't care if his character is a cliche, he is very likeable in the role, and we technically get to see what he would have been like as Nathan Drake in one scene in the movie.
    - The rest of the cast was pretty good too with Kelsey Grammer being a standout, intimidating villain.
    - The robots had much better characterization and a lot more screen time. Drift was my favorite of the new robots.
    - Lockdown was a great villain that reminded me a lot of the Predator.
    - It sets up a lot of story threads for the sequels to explore.
    - The crude humor is gone, and there are several funny moments. My favorites were Bumblebee's reaction to Stinger, and Drift on Lockdown's ship. "Only use violence as a last resort." Gets attacked by something in the wall. "I kill you!"
    - Optimus had a good character arc that took him to some dark places.
    - The special effects were mostly great.

    What I disliked:
    - The CGI was a bit off in a few places. I think it was at its worst when they jumped the car and when they were on the cables. I was really annoyed by the car jump because that could have been done practically. You don't have to actually jump the car. Hook it up to a moving wire rig. They have used this technique in at least a couple Fast and Furious movies. Use it.
    - Some of the jokes didn't work but at least they were putting effort into the comedy this time instead of lazy sex jokes.
    - The Dinobots weren't in it enough. I wouldn't have been bothered by this if it weren't for the fact that they are a total deus ex machina. They just conveniently show up to help Optimus at the end with little foreshadowing to their introduction. I'm not exactly sure of their backstories either. They are awesome in the final battle though.
    - Nicola Peltz is a really bad actress. She seems like a nice person in real life, but she was a bit annoying to me.
    - Shane was underused, and I learned very little about his character. He should have had more moments to earn Cade's respect. He also should have showed up before the government tried to take Optimus instead of conveniently appearing during the attack.

    My rating: 7.5/10

It's easily the second best in the series behind the first one.

This may not be the thread for me, considering I haven't seen the film yet, but I wanted to read reviews from fellow TF fans before I see it tonight. The consensus I'm getting is that bayformers fans will like it.

I too have been watching the first 3 this week in preparation for AOE. And I must say, I still think TF07 will be my favorite. That movie has a special place in my heart, because that's what truly got me into the Transformers franchise. None of the sequels have captured the magic of the first movie for me, even though I like the sequels.

Bottom line is, even if you don't like AOE, you could always just pretend it doesn't exist and view DOTM as the true ending of the movieverse. But I'll post my opinions on the film here later tonight :)

    What I liked:

-Drift as a triple changer. From bugatti to cybertronian helicopter, it was cool. I might buy both toys now
-Hound was awesome as a "replacement" for Ironhide. Same archetype of grizzly old vet but with a lot more personality and guns. The battle scene where he literally used EVERYTHING HE HAD ( from throwing his helmet to actually using his cygar as a bullet to shoot the enemy in the face) was cool.
-The action was cool and intense. It was cool to see these guys take hits and not die so fast like in the previous films but you did get the sense of the danger. I really thought Hound was gonna die.
    - The plot was better. Galvatron was secretly contracting Lockdown through humans to get a new army since the decepticons are all gone. Make sense.
-LOCKDOWN. He was the best villain in this movie series HANDS DOWN. He took command in every scene he was in. Just a total monster. I wish we can see more of him
    -I AM GALVATRON!!!!!
-Optimus finally having enough of this protect the humans bullshit and putting his Autobots first.

    Dislike

-The movie seemed to drag on and on and on. Some scenes needed to be cut or trimmed. 2hrs and 45 mins? It could have easily been a 2hr or less flick. The china scenes were dragging. I understand this was Bay's way of apologizing for ROTF but still. OVERKILL
-Tesa was just unbearable at times. She makes dumb mistake after dumb mistake.
-The magical human sized weapons that let Mark and company kill giant sentient war machines?
    - So let me understand this: Optimus, you release the Dinobots who you had to basically threaten to KILL in order for them to help you, and at the end you just let them roam China free? I hope this is addressed in the next film. Maybe dinobot island?
-I MISS THE DECEPTICONS!! I hope Galvatron recruits some from the far reaches of space. Cyclonus, maybe even Predacons to face against the Dinobots.
-Shane was a waste. And a sucker
-Ratchet and lead foot dying. That sucked

    Rating: 7/10
I enjoyed this movie. A bit long. Dumb useless scenes that should have been cut. But more robot on robot action, the plot was cool, the technology was cool. The robots actually felt ALIVE in this one. Cant wait to see what Galvatron has in store.

And at least one very vocal NON Bay fan - right here. I loathe the original three movies, but for the first time now, I feel like I've actually watched a proper Transformers movie AND it was done right. My only complaint is that all the good Decepticons were squandered and already killed off in the previous three, so their lack of presence in AOE is absolutely noticeable. Would have been nice to have more than just one Con, one rogue bouncer hunter a bunch of man-made drones to fill that space. But regardless, THIS was a Transformers movie... finally. My opinion hasn't changed about the previous three, but it certainly has changed about Bay and what the guy can apparently do when he actually puts some proper planning in motion.

That Chinese guy is a pop star in China in real life, only reason they put him there and gave him one "significant" line was to advertise Gucci sun glasses.

I read your recap in another thread, and it was glorious.
