Well to be honest I've never been a big fan of Drift so there was that bias going in, but, his character just bothered the hell out of me. I could understand the Samurai look if the entire thing took place in China, it doesn't, so it made no sense to me. Crosshairs, I have no emotional attachment to him at all (like one would with any of the G1 guys) so going in with an open mind to him, well the first scene he's in set the tone for me and made up my mind on his character.

Again, both guys had their moments, but over all I could have done without them. Part of it may have been the fact that it's a 14 hour movie and I just wanted to go home  

 

I'll just wait and rent it.

 

Just got back from my screening and I gotta say...I liked it. It wasn't amazing or a godsend to cinema but for what it was I liked it. And as for some bulletpoints on what I thought, here ya go in glorious spoiler free tags.

-Humans were a lot more likable than the first three movies.
-Damn, I didn't think I'd feel as bad as I did about Ratchet's death since I knew about it prior but damn movie, just...damn o-o
-Speaking of which, Optimus FLIPPED OUT when he found out they killed Ratchet. Somewhere Jazz is rolling in his grave. Nice touch.
-Killed up annoying side character surprisingly early, thank you.
-New Autobots, very easy to tell apart and I liked them, they did sound like a bunch of misfits put together by need more than choice.
-Tucci's character was really good, and actually thought like a real human being at times (let's keep Galvatron and the Seed far apart)
-Galvatron's voice
-Those Dinobot designs.

Still had a lot of problems and don't get me started on the story faults but all said and done it was probably my favorite of the movies.

 

At some point somebody will have to come to terms with the fact that there are large chunks of the fandom that don't see today as a day to be elated, or the last 3 years as anymore than the last 3 years. Have some sense of the pulse of the fandom.

Blindly, indeed. When almost every other single property is getting better cinema, we know they can do better, they just don't bother because you keep paying them not to care. I can't think of many franchises that have 4 movies all rotten (granted the first one was close).

And while they may OMG BREAK RECORDS when they open, they are not aging well at all and TransFormers is getting a bad reputation that is getting worse with each film. The laughingstock of the fictional universes. Eventually maybe they won't even be able to reboot because people will stop caring and write the brand off. It happens - despite two fantastic ensemble films in a row, X-Men has had a hard time recovering from X3.

Have discipline in the present and faith in the future.

 

Crosshairs is really just a massive prick. Drift is a walking cliche with really only one good line. Bumblebee feels like a stock character. Hound is just over the top.

And goodness. Prime was just so angry and downtrodden. All the time.

I was so extremely disappointed in this movie. The pacing and plot seemed very engaging at the beginning but the movies bloated length and determination to enforce every plot point repeatedly while glossing over the actually interesting material was too much for me.

 

Just got back from seeing it,and my reaction would be WOW and Totally Kick Ass Movie. And I was totally surprised that not only could Stinger dematerialize but so could Galvatron. I think they should keep that process for the rest of the movies,that was just plain EPIC when all the Decepticons did that.

As for the Dinobots I really thought they were truly awesome in every way,and hope we see them in the next movie.As for the ending I really thought it was cheesy but in a good way.I hope we don't have to wait 3 years for the next one as 2 years is long enough,and as for Bay I say he has done these 4 he might as well do the last 2 (which he probably will).This movie ROCKED.

Eh Drift's whole presence is questionable since he's supposed to be a Japanese samurai and his whole appearance, including the way he talks wasn't explained. I heard Crosshairs was too negative, basically the Starscream of the Autobot group, that may be what did it for you. Like you said, I'll keep an open mind too, I may or may not like the characters, at least I have five Autobots to favor from.

 

Now that you mention it, Crosshairs was basically Gears, but less of a whiny bitch.

I'm pretty sure that movie had about six acts and no concept of pacing.

It was a glorious clusterfuck.

This. I swear people are acting like Transformers is supposed to be a great literary masterpiece. This was a live action cartoon. G1 had stereotypical personalities. Remember Cosmos. Now we get Drift. A triple changer ninja. Prime finally has emotional range. Hound was about as rude and irreverent as it gets. He chews a cigar because that's what tough guys do. Why does it have to make any sense? I mean seriously, how much sense do any of the Transformers series make?

I understand some people wanted something grounded and real. This is not that. Even the robots overact. It is stupid and silly and very over the top. And I feel like I did when I used to watch G1.

Bay tried to make it realistic last time and THAT'S what sucked. Now it's like he's willing to let the dumbest and silliest of things happen, for no reason, and just makes them look cool. So if you wanted a realistic story and a grounded, real world, Marvel like approach this ain't for you.

If you want G1 on the screen, this feels like that. And I loved it.

 

Just got home from seeing it. Thoughts:

- Those of you who have been waiting for good robot characterization... this is your movie. All the new Autobots, Lockdown, & Galvatron have clear cut and consistent characterization. It's really great. Optimus shows some hardcore emotions, and actual acknowledgement and respect is given to fallen Autobots.

- Great Autobot interaction and dialogue. Certainly far better than has been in any of the previous 3 movies. Lockdown has some great lines, Galvatron has a good one too.

- Optimus has a clearly defined character arc in this. Anyone who says otherwise is lying, foolish, or far too biased to see things how they are. He has his code, he is forced into a certain position, and ends up breaking his code (albeit for a good reason).

- The movie as a whole is not an "18% on RT" movie. The humor was much better this time around. Much more mature. Still kinda goofy, but not overly done and clearly a different tone than the first 3. The plot is what it is, I had no issues with it. I'd go as far to say it's the most sensible and coherent of the 4 films. Far better than ROTF, for sure.

- It is long, but not to a bothersome extent. Were there unnecessary parts? Yes. But there's a lot going on so I never felt bogged down. Oh, and there is no dance scene. This may be the first time we've seen an entire CG scene that was rendered and produced but cut from the final film.

- Drift is a triple changer. Very cool. You do not see Hound or Crosshairs transform at any point. Very few actual transformations in this, and most of them were Optimus. The original theme and transformation sound are used at points.

- Dinobots are cool. Yes they transform. Yes, they're only in it at the end (which everyone should have seen a mile away). They all survive. In fact, only Lockdown and the drones are dead at the end (other than Ratchet and Leadfoot, obviously).

- All in all, a very enjoyable movie. Flawed? Yeah. Long? Yeah. But the plot is interesting and both the robots and the humans are vastly improved.

No crazy human personalities doing embarrassing or sexual things.
Way more robot time, with the cast all having speaking parts and some personalities (except for the Dinobots)

 

I loved 1 and 3. I thought the fight scene in 2 was awesome. I too have supported these movies. But now it's time to step it up. I enjoyed the tone when it was being serious, and the robots actually got more screen time than previous movies. But the forced Michael Bay humor, the ridiculously long action sequences, the flat characters, AND THE LACK OF ANY REAL DEPTH TO THE PLOT makes me think the franchise deserves better. Bay has three buttons that he rotates between: action, humor, sentimental/heartwarming. If he were a painter, he'd only be painting with 3 colors (and none of them primary).

That said, there were a few things that were truly awesome about this movie (and none of them are the Dinobots IMO): Prime and his emotions, Lockdown and this new concept of their creators, and the evolution of Galvatron. I look forward to the inevitable sequel, but for god's sake let's switch up the director and get a little more sophisticated in the writing. Ridley Scott, you up you out bro?

 

Do not take your kids to see it as the language was quite inappropriate including the F word. With that being said, save your money. Not worth the money or time you will spend watching something you are going to have major problems with like most of us lifetime Transformers fans.

 

I agree with this. Mark and Stanley were the only two I cared about. Tessa wasn't bad, she was better than Rosie to me. Overall I liked this movie more than the last two. More screentime for the Autobots even if most were misfits. I think that was the point since there were only 4 left. Lockdown was the best part of the movie. Still hope we get a Voyager from Hasbro.
