Hey guys, just saw the film and I thought I might be quick and answer a lot of FAQ I've seen when it comes to Spoilers for the movie. I've noticed they've been answered often in the forums, but are always asked again so I thought it'd be good to collect them into one thread and get them all out of the way. If this doesn't warrant its own thread, could a mod please merge it with another thread or just close it if that's necessary.

    Characters:

    How many Autobots?
    8. Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Crosshairs, Drift, Hound, Brains, Ratchet, Leadfoot

    Any Decepticons?
Yes and no. Galvatron forms a new army. Something of the next generation of Decepticons.

    Deaths? Who kills who?
Humans: Lucas (Lockdown), Attinger (Optimus), Savoy (Cade)
Autobots: Ratchet (Lockdown), Leadfoot (CIA), rest of Autobots implied dead
    Villains: Stinger (Bumblebee), Lockdown (Optimus)

    Do the Transformers have character?
Yes. Each Autobot has a distinct and wildly different personality to one another and each are put into situations in which their personality shines as well as actually have conversations and scenes with each other. Optimus gets (gasp) actual character development and properly reacts to the deaths of his friends and Lockdown is a fully fledged character as well, with lots of dialogue and screen-time. Galvatron is the only one who falls into the previous movies' trap of not doing much but shout and have quick one-liners, but there's an in-story reason for that. The movie isn't perfect by any means, but this is the first time I've felt that the Transformers are characters just as much as the humans are.

    Silver Knight Optimus Prime?
-Does not appear in the film

    Mandarin-speaking Tranformer?
    -There is no Mandarin-speaking Transformer.

    Cyclonus?
-Does not appear in the film

    Garbage Truck?
-Yes, but is not the character from DOTM, just has the same vehicle mode. He's a vehicon that is made up of 2 (or 3?) robots.

    Dinobots:

    How many?
-There are only 4 Dinobots; Grimlock, Scorn, Strafe, Slug.

    How do they look?
-The Dinobots are pretty accurate to the Voyager Grimlock toy and the Deluxe of the others. Grimlock weilds his Voyager weapon and Scorn even has his tail-whip.

    Are they named?
-None of the Dinobots are named on-screen, except Crosshairs says "I'll ride with you any time, Spike." Right at the end to Scorn. The Dinobots onscreen are only ever referred to (By Optimus) as "Legendary Warriors".

    Robot mode?
-The Dinobots spend minimal time in robot mode. They first appear in robot mode, Optimus briefly fights Grimlock in robot mode and they transform to robot mode to protect the other Autobots as they escape on a bridge.

    Do they talk?
    -The Dinobots do not speak.

    Who rides who?
-Optimus on Grimlock, Drift on Slug, Bumblebee on Strafe, Crosshairs on Scorn. Hound (who the toys partnered with toy-only Dinobot Slash) does not ride anyone.

How long are they in it for?
-About the last 20 or so minutes.

    Lockdown:

    Is he a Decepticon?
-He is unaffiliated as per Animated, but has made a deal with Kelsey Grammar's character to hunt down the Decepticons and Autobots and give them one of the Creator's Cyber-Forming "Seeds" as long as he is given Optimus Prime in return

    Who is he working for?
-He is hired by "The Creators"

    What's with his ship?
-His ship was previously used by the Knights of Cybertron as they explored the galaxy. Optimus is not impressed by what he's done with it.

    Does he have his hook?
-His hook only makes two appearances. Once he uses it to climb a building and he briefly uses it in his final fight. His hand also turns into a gun and a sword.

    Is his final fight cool?
-First time the Big Bad hasn't gone down like a bitch. After impaling Optimus in a brawl, he defeats Bumblebee and is about to kill Cade before Tessa and Shane pull the sword out of Optimus and he bisects him from behind.

    Creators:

    Are they Quintessons?
-Very little is known about them except they Cyberformed many planets millions of years ago and built Optimus

    Why do they want Optimus?
-They want Optimus back because he's "run wild" and not doing what he was "created for".

    Do you see them?
-In the first scene you see them Cyber-Forming Earth, all you see is a green, slimy hand controlling the "Seeds".

    Drift:

    Helicopter mode?
-He's a triple changer. His helicopter mode is used twice and appears Cybertronian in design.

    Was he a Decepticon?
-His Decepticon past is not mentioned, but he's actually a pretty fun character throughout the movie

    Galvatron:

    Is he Megatron?
-He's Megatron! His plan is lifted straight from Animated.

    What does he do?
-Megatron was not really killed by Optimus, his brain still lived. While the humans reverse-engineered his body, he controlled the scene from the shadows. He rebuilt himself a new body and called it "Galvatron" (the humans were trying to replicate Optimus, but he made sure it always looked like him) and led the humans towards the Seed. His ultimate plan was to cyber-form Earth and use the technology he had helped the humans create to build a new army.

    Does he get killed?
-He doesn't die. Once the prototypes are killed, he leaves. His last scene is watching Optimus from the mountains. "We will meet again, Optimus Prime. For I am reborn!"

    Previous Characters:

Are the old Autobots in the movie?
-Ratchet is seen killed by Lockdown and Leadfoot is seen being killed by humans on footage hacked of a CIA drone. No other Autobots are seen or mentioned, but are implied to have been hunted down by the CIA and Lockdown.

What about the last main characters?
-No mention of previous humans. Not even an implication of Sam and co.

    Is NEST in it?
-NEST is never mentioned by named, they just allude to a "previous Autobot and military alliance". The military (thankfully) makes very few appearances in the film. The transformers are the ones doing the fighting this time!

    Post-Credit Scene?

    -My viewing didn't have one.

If there's anything else you want to know before seeing the movie, please ask and I'll add them to the post.

So even though Galvatron is Megatron, he does go by Galvatron by name right?

Yes, iirc Brains even says he chose the name Galvatron. Once Brains explains his origins the Autobots only refer to him as Galvatron for the rest of the movie. Galvatron even shouts "I am Galvatron!" himself when he wakes up and starts taking over KSI.

This makes no sense though, Optimus is a prime; aside from the cool scenes with Grimlock and Optimus riding him now I am not so sure I want to see this movie. It just sounds like he is screwing with the characters now.

Yes, quoting him was what I was making the comment about so I had too

The statement about him being built and not created; that makes it sound like he isn't a rightful prime.

You don't quote the entire post, just the part you want to discuss. It's confusing when you quote an entire two paragraph post and then only talk about a few lines.
Transformers have always been created by another species, since the original cartoon. Quintessons ring a bell?

    > No mention of how NEST dissolved or what happened to the previous characters

This is not a good thing and honestly makes me a little mad. They pay lipservice to previous continuity but don't even bother explaining it??

I think all the Transformers were built, not just Optimus, but for some reason The Creators want him.

The story was intentionally vague about the whole thing, obviously leaving it open for a sequel.

They did say that the military alliance had been broken straight after Chicago, but I think this movie was intended as a bit of a soft reboot so they didn't want to dwell too much on old characters.

Small correction, Grimlock has one line about "Holding the line" when they transform on the bridge. They were planning on holding back the Vehicons and letting the Autobots escape. They have no other lines.

Don't jump to conclusions. Wait until the 5th and 6th movie comes out which will explain more about the Creators. It's pretty clear this time has a clear-cut story line plan unlike the original three.

The Prime being built thing was a revelation from Brains. He said the creators cyberformed organic life to build the transformers from transformium (yes thats what they called it). So there is another element to this story that predates the primes as it can be assumed the cyberforming predates them.

    So Quintessons:
    convert organic life to transformium
    Build transformers bodies from that
Use suns from said organic host planets to power up cube.
Use cube to give TF's life.

TFs form tribes allegiances etc and overthrow quints. 'You werent made what you were built for', 'your petty wars like children spoiling the galaxy', 'this cross species mixing, the creators dont like it'. Seems like there is a pecking order and something about the Transformers moving to Earth has defied this.

Attinger is willing to kill humans who do not co-operate with his plans, so technically, Lennox and Epps could've been killed if they refused to comply with his orders. But since we never hear of their status, it's left ambiguous.

As for the other Autobots, Prime does ask if anyone has heard from the others, to which the others advise they were the only ones to heed his call, so it appears they have had no method to contact each other and likely that Sideswipe, Dino, Topsin and Roadbuster have all been subsequently killed. Only Leadfood and Ratchet are seen being killed though.

Oh, and it's never explained how or why Hound, Crosshairs and Drift came to either, they just are there unexplained.

Few questions, do the Autobots get along with each other, do they explain why Drift hates Bee, and how would you rate this film?
