I read in a few reviews that there are some stereotyping in the film, but it's glossed over as typical Bay.

I was wondering what the stereotyping is, and how bad?

 

Don't remember seeing Crosshairs transform.The Dinobots just roar and we don't see them a lot in their robot mode so...It's up to you.For me,they were characters

 

Well Drift, a Japanese samurai character, has a yellow face.

That's kinda Power Rangers tier stereotyping.

 

Someone said Ratchet is forced to fight back because he's scared for his life! Que is old and weak, I doubt he is a fighter so he would try and be the peace-maker. Ironhide....well he's dying and he wants to know why Sentinel is betraying them. Sentinel is trying to look sorry and will try anything he can so Optimus won't kill him. Megatron....well, he just wanted the planet....so optimus killed him.

 

Was that really all?

A good one is that all Chinese knows kungfu due to a elevator scene in Hong kong

Drift called Optimus "Sensei", said a Haiku and talked about discipline?

It's more of a gold face modeled after a Samurai mask.

I think I heard Dinobots talking in English in the cable stayed bridge scene, where one of them said something like 'You go, we stay here, hold the line'. That was after them transformed back to the robot mode to build a defense line to hold the bridge and block drones, so other Autobots could keep advancing to other side of the bridge.

I am not 100% sure which Dinobot that was as that was a distant shot from above.

 

Yeah, that feels like stereotyping. Maybe not all out racist, but stereotyping none the less.

The gold face thing, that's going to be hard to defend as being a "mask".

 

we don't see Crosshairs transform? what the actual fuck?! what about Hound and Drift?
Even Dino got a transformation scene. Only one that i rememeber off the top of my head who didn't is Que.

 

See it was loud as shit in the theater I went to during this scene because everyone was so hyped that they transformed. Maybe one does talk, I'll have to see again tomorrow lol

 

We never got see the Twins transfom either.

Plus they probably couldn't bullshit a transformation for that design.

 

Come to think of it, did we get to see Hound transform? I can't remember... Don't know why they didn't transform more... A lot of the movie was robot mode in one scene, cut to another scene in vehicle mode.

 

What about the talk between Cade and Optimus about there still is good in humanity?

 

I said similarities to the style of scene, not that they were exact copies.

Still feel they could have fought back in some form. I mean if you were about to get shot and you had a gun - wouldn't you shoot back? Each of the Transformers has weapons on them so it feels a little awkward when they die so easily without fighting back. I know a few of them are dying - but it doesn't make sense to me why they'd let it happen so easily. Ah well...

 

Honestly, yes. There is a point where he melts Prime's old sword using the whole in his chest. That could be a very interesting mechanic in fights (like the xenomorphs acid blood)

 

Do we see Hound or Drift transform? How many actual transformations do we have? It is called "Transformers" btw.

 

Hell I can't believe they aren't cheating with the designs now, since they seem to be trying to avoid having any recognizable car parts in Robot mode.
