You ever heard of a concept called "the expectation of privacy"? It's a legal umbrella for how surveillance cameras are put up. So while you have an expectation of privacy in a public restroom, you don't in the pubic building that said restroom is in. It's also why traffic cams are not usually put into residential neighbourhoods, as your house does have an expectation of privacy. And since that's a beach in a state park. I'd say that's a public space.

Yep, also sprinkle in a little bit of the fear culture about terrorist/crazy murdering teenagers doing recon around areas they plan to strike, and her reaction makes a bit of sense.

"If you see a suspicious person, report them"

That's the culture we all live in now, and because of that, incidents just like this will happen.

Edit: And before anyone jumps down my throat as defeating her. I'm not. Glad she was arrested and charged. I applaud the boy for having more restrain that I would ever have. I'm just saying how I can see where an incident like this happens, and it'll happen increasingly.

Agreed, it's, "If you see a suspicious person, report them," and not, "If you see a suspicious person, assault them." She reported it, cops didn't consider it a threat. End of story. We don't need vigilantism (otherwise you get shit happening like this and that one story where a guy assaulted another dude on a train simply because he overheard said dude speaking in Bengali on the phone with his wife and thought he was a terrorist, which was BS, of course).

But yeah, public beach, no real expectation of privacy unless that kid was hovering that copter right above that lady's head constantly/continuously. From the sound of things, glad she was booked and charged.

Woman From Viral Drone Video Appears In Court | WTIC FOX CT

She got a probationary period where all charges will be dropped and expunged if she doesn't commit a crime in a certain amount of time. In other words the judge wagged his finger at her and said "I'll let it slide this time, but don't let me catch you causing trouble again". I hope this kid's parents follow up with a civil suit.

Hey, if your in public you are fair game for cameras there is really nothing anyone can do about it, if they say to leave the premises you can always go further away and shoot the same area.

I'm not familiar with those thing was that really piloting that thing while getting beat up I thought it was going to crash much sooner.

He could have been shooting footage for a tourist commercial for all she knew, I'm hoping she was already in trouble with the cops and it compounded what ever she got.

    Link?

Edit: blah, how did I miss two posts above. Still, the judgment sounds about right. She apparently has no prior record, what do people expect? two-years hard labor or an ass-kicking.

According to that article the judge hasn't actually made the final decision yet. She's due back in court July 9th.

Actually no. She's applying for accelerated rehab. The judge has to decide if she can do it or not.

I hope she has to do jail time. The kid's right. If it had been a male assaulting a female the guy wouldn't get off so easily.
