Yes, and it probably will be upon release. Often times, hand painted prototypes are displayed at Conventions if a production sample isn't ready. He's just dark blue because well, you can't paint solid plastic into translucent colors. The same thing happened last year when the new voyager Predaking was revealed and displayed.

I originally didn't want leader Prime, but with it painted like that, I'll get it. And that Grimlock looks good too...I should take my leader Grimlock back, along with Crosshairs, since he's getting better paint too.

I've just noticed, looking at some of the pics, that the Optimus on display from the PE voyager 2 pack there is slightly different from the one already released: he does;t have the faceplate anymore but has gained a stripe on the chest in bot mode and silver paint on the wheels.

Would they not have had a translucent one to take the package pics with in the first place...?

    Exactly.

Plus, the one on display isn't hand-painted. He's got chrome and is clearly made of normal plastic.

Same here especially as the others are far more screen accurate, plus I prefer the non-faceplate head of that mould. Maybe they'll do a slightly different Scrapyard Optimus (seeing as they went to all the effort of giving him a prefix) as a single figure or even better, in a 2-pack with a more screen accurate version of High Octane Bumblebee. That's a set that would kind of make sense.

The scrapyard Optimus Prime looks similar to the upcoming Japan TRU exclusive Optimus Prime.

Again, the same thing happened last year with Predaking. The official pics sent out were translucent, the figure on display wasn't.
...this on the other hand, I can't argue with. Looking more closely at the photos, you're definitely right about some parts being plain plastic, such as some of the joints as well as the sword. On the other hand, all of the blue and red parts have a pronounced coat of paint on them and the flame decals look like they're applied via transfer decal or something, which you can really see in this picture http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/attach/3/9/4/7/1/DSC04410_1403463441. So I have no clue why it's not transparent blue :lol

In any case, I'd be stoked if the final release had normal, non translucent plastic because the yellow windows and bright blue really turned me off of the first release.

Ok, pretty sure the figure on display had his translucent parts... ;)

but whichever way I'm sure we'll get more pics in due course that will give us a better idea of the final product.

No release date for any of the sets yet. Wouldn't think it'd be until towards the end of the year.

Is the Voyager 2-pack out yet in the States? (It'll be forever before it's out here, if at all, as we always lag behind).

The one on display at Botcon had a slightly different version of Optimus I noticed, with the non-facemask head, a stripe on the chest and silver paint on the wheels. I wonder if that's for a later release or an exclusive for a different store.

Okay I'd hate to be a necromancer, but this is directly related to the BotCon 2014 display. I read on tfwiki that AOE Hotshot originally had flames when shown on display at BotCon 2014, which was corroborated by posts mentioning the flames in associated threads, and now that I've finally found the images the flames are nowhere to be seen. Does anyone have the pictures? Or is this some full on Mandela Effect going on?
