    As a Redskins fan of 20 or so years I say: cool. I hope they change it.

    I have zero attachment to the name, logo, or any ridiculous argument of tradition. Just the team. Whatever they call themselves.

    In my opinion, they shouldn't have to change their name at all. Everyone that has saying that WR should change their name should just shut up unless they have Native American blood in them, then, and only then, will their opinions count. My Great Grandmother was a full-blooded Native American, a princess of her tribe, and I haven't a problem with the name Redskins.

    So, they could call themselves Native Americans instead of Redskins?

    be changing their names as well?

    I just think, and I've felt this way for around 20 years now, that it needs to be fair. If you're gonna make one person change it then everyone changes it. Everyone does it or nobody does it. My high school was the Redskins and we were forced to change it a year before I graduated. So if schools have to change their mascots then the pro teams should too. THAT'S equality. And since I know at least one school that had to change it, I think everyone who's using it should. Otherwise, go back and reinstate the mascot at my high school.

    The braves' fans used to do the tomahawk chant/gesture, and they're not supposed to anymore. That was the biggest thing about the Braves, the Native Americans didn't like the Tomahawk chant/gesture because they thought it was offensive.

    I'm not fond of the name and as a Giants fan, I'm all for anything that makes the team's ownership or fans' lives uncomfortable. But I imagine that most people lose sight of one reason that you don't hear much of a brouhaha from the Native American community on this issue. Yeah, the name is offensive, but of all the decisions to come out of D.C., not changing a football team's name doesn't break the top 100 insults to Native Americans.
