Fans toys releasing a grey shockwave after the purple is ok to do in my book. Nothing about that color scheme says we tried and this is the best we got. It screams, hobby for completionists.

UT releasing v1 with almost just right colors but not quite there yet, is wrong for SO many reasons. It screams of Igear/KFC douchery, and is best surmised in the words of Angry Joe, "****YOU GIVE ME MONEY!!!"

I have v1. I painted it. It looks great now, I'd say even better than their v2, but I'm no longer ok with the money spent. I even supported their sharkticons and now feel somewhat used. Will there be a v2 of those as well? Should I sell my three now, while I can get bank for them, before UT depreciates their value with a more accurate redeco?!

 

Wasn't the first FoC Grimlock released accurate to the game colors though? That was the source material for that figure, not the G1 toy/show.
Or am I misremembering?

My friend, thy perception is flawed and this is the core issue with many beliefs. WHY would it be a "no big deal"? These individuals felt it worthy enough to invest a C-note on the fig and they are content with the investment. Just because someone else isn't happy with a product, does not mean others cannot enjoy the fig.


As for this fig itself. UT did mess up a little. They should have announced the more color accurate version. People would of had the option to decide which version they wanted (and yes, there are several that DO like v1). I, for one, do like v1. Will I go for v2? I'm not sure yet, but odds are I will not.

 

I'm really curious about this part. Why did people "invest" in the product if it wasn't what they wanted? I just don't understand that.

I was really turned off by the original color scheme, so no "investing" on my part. This new one looks exactly like what I want, so I will probably get that.

Also I can't figure out if toydojo has this in stock or if it's a preorder? It doesn't say either on the product page?

 

So, what is the best deal going on this with shipping in the USA? I've looked around but want to make sure I haven't missed anything. I normally shop with Captured Prey, but they don't seem to be carrying it.

 

Aren't said color changes "improvements" (as in more G1 accurate) in the minds of most of the fandom (or at least, the most vocal of the fandom)? Redeco's are just part of the 3P game; this certainly isn't the first time we've seen this and it probably won't be the last time. As others have pointed out, folks who bought V1 thought it was worth the C note enough to buy it at the time, and V2, while nice, shouldn't completely invalidate it (unless they fixed/changed the mold itself, as some have pointed out; then that'd be a problem; KFC Citizen Stack, etc.).

And when you say, the fandom complained, to who exactly? TFW is just one board, and some 3Ps don't frequent TFW and/or don't speak English as their first language, so maybe some of these complaints fell on deaf ears. I'm sure that enough folks said enough about the colors over at Weibo or something though, otherwise V2 may not have come to pass, or maybe UT finally had the opportunity to make changes and color match to fan demand this time around at the factory, with no plans to do so prior? We just don't know.

 

That stuff usually annoy me but it kinda works with Galvatron.

It looks like he's constantly flexing his robo-muscles and it's totally in character for him.

I'm totally getting this with the good colours. It's too damn awesome to pass!

It's funny how so many folks have incorrectly typed KFC. The hate is strong against them at the moment. Unique toys should be very concerned about their image to be likened to them.

 

Or happy they're absorbing the brunt of this.

 

I'll admit this news makes me pretty mad, a trend that if continues will see people not be as trigger happy to order new items right away.

Hmm, I don't think that's the point webz was making, he's only saying that we're blowing this thing way out of proportion, and I agree.

When the original colours were released, there was a huge debate already, but at the end of the day, those who wanted Galvatron still made their peace with it. I do feel it's kind of a slap-in-the-face for early adopters and a bad move on UT's part, but on the flip-side, they improved on a toy that was already 85% of the way there.

In the long run, I don't think it'd bode well for their track record, and it kinda discourages people from jumping in early.

 

So the "new" colourscheme is actually a proper G1 colourscheme? That's kind of not cool.

Also, never paid much attention to this fig, but are those curling-iron arms?
