    Well I finally figured out what this Prime could be accurate to. Pat Lee's big, over proportioned designs.

    Whoa! After all the gems we had recently, I can't believe Hasbro is giving us this Optimus Prime figure. It looks so...so...substandard.

    I think this is the figure that finally 'pushes' me over to 3P figures for my 'classic' needs.

    :puke:

    Sorry, had to show my reaction to this figure. Someone at Has/Tak must have been drunk, or approved this abomination right before handing in their resignation. By far the worst design of Optimus in a long time. (Makes Energon Optimus look a little better, to my eyes)

    1: That's totally G2 Comic Optimus.

    2: More importantly, that's actually our first look at Generations Motormaster. That's a crummy Optimus, but with retooling to the chest and head (and toes, yes) it's a pretty good Motormaster.

    ...his fists are as big as his head...I...I really hope these touched up photoshopped pictures are just making this toy look worse because I've been waiting for a new Optimus and so far, what I'm seeing here is NOT a step up or an improvement over the Classics figure we got YEARS ago. It's way too cartoonish and it makes him look more like a monkey than Optimus Primal XD

    Seriously, after a stellar Brainstorm and Arcee and Chromia, this looks kinda bad. I don't get it! Even their new Leader Class Megatron looks weak, like he should be a Voyager and this should be a Deluxe XD

    I know a lot of people are saying he looks like a G2 Hero Optimus but to me, he looks more like a Machine Wars Optimus XD

    With a new chest and head it'd be a pretty good Thunderclash, even if he's meant to be around the size of Ultra Magnus. Having said that, there are several panels or other parts that seem to be unnecessary for this transformation, and the chest transformation seems to be busier than it otherwise might have been. Earlier someone mentioned that the grey panels inside the shins have nothing to do with Optimus Prime's transformation and similarly, I'm uncertain as to the need for the vertical blue panels behind the cabin. Perhaps if such a Motormaster retool were heavy enough, these might flip extra cab parts (as in his extended glazed sleeper cabin) down onto the shins or even feet, if a waist swivel were involved. Or it could be nothing.

    Furthermore a great big cab like that would if nothing else be perfect for stashing a second, much larger head in. This could also be or refine the reason for the lack of clear plastic for windows and indeed explain the 'busy' transformation that so often goes with blanked off.painted windows (Henkei Ratchet and Ironhide spring to mind but obviously for different reasons to this).

    I think that it's not to much to ask that we get 12 Generations Deluxes from Hasbro in any year they try to release any in that line. Nominally, this might give us limbs for three combiners, if things were to play out that neatly. Time and more pointedly a couple more toy shows will tell if the core figures are Voyagers or Deluxes too. As best as we know, Superion is among the releases next year. We also know that back in the '80s, to offset the 'good guy effect' that kept Autobot toy sales churning over, Decepticons were first and more populous with certain play features, namely Triple Changers and combiner teams. With the latter in mind I should think we'll get at least one or two Decepticon Generations combiners next year.

    It may seem deliberately obscure, but the thing that I've mused over about this being Motormaster or not, is the other Stunticons. In particular, Dead End. This year we're getting a Generations Nightbeat who after seemingly almost being a Jazz retool, has wound up as a muscle car, but stranger things have happened in Classics, and it's all good to me. Nevertheless, both of these characters originally turned into Porsches and had quite simple and -more to my point - similar transformations. Jazz references the Porsche style perfectly in vehicle mode and Generations Bee is passably close to the transformations. Nevertheless, why not wait for a Generations Dead End that incorporates the best of both worlds and then release Nightbeat as a retool of him?

    Who knows? Maybe the comics drew/maintained enough attention about Nightbeat that he seemed the logical choice for a retool that further legitimized Generations Bee, instead of all the toys dictating so much comic action. Either way, Dark Cybertron seemed the perfect opportunity to bring back Nightbeat if nothing else. Still, other characters had enjoyed more exposure at the time, like Getaway, but I'm pretty much daydreaming about a sportier Nightbeat so it's time to wrap this up. Another crazy alternative is that maybe Dead End will be a retool of the Generations Bee mold too. After all, Scoop got a lot of attention from fans speculating that he might form the basis of a certain Constructicon, so we could have a number of combiner members under our noses, incognito as it were, but that's far fetched, even with the good news for next year. ;)

    Finally we're seeing the inevitable design room dare come to life, where some dude said "I bet you I can slap 'Optimus Prime' on any piece of shit and it will be the top seller." This is what happens. Our fandom let this happen.

    Seriously hoping this is the core of something better, or if indeed this actually looks like some comic generation I've never seen before, please post the image.

    I mentioned a few posts back now that I and perhaps many others had hoped that the Generations line might do for Optimus Prime what it had done for Springer (somewhat compared to their 3P figures anyway). While that isn't the case there may be one debatable similarity.

    Since we first saw Sandstorm he was rightly praised for the extent of retooling from Springer and the generosity of the extra parts was also noted. However it was soon suggested on the boards that Sandstorm was designed first and he was kept back to be released after Springer, who had less parts, as it were. :D  As such I sincerely hope a similar thing is happening here, except that what for now may seem to be the retool is also quite extensive if not far more suitable overall to whichever character it turns out to be.

    Just had a (cool) thought Menasaur repaint and as IDW RID combiner.

    Motormaster= Optimus (obviously)
    Dead end= Prowl
    Wild Rider= Jazz
    Drag Strip= Mirage (okay he is not in RID's cast yet but still)
    Breakdown= Sideswipe

    With Superion announced you can do the exact same thing with him and Decepticon Seekers.

    The idea that this may in fact be secretly Motormaster, who should look exactly like this, justifies the design choices.

    After all, look at that fake window chest. The blue squares aren't even trying to look like they belong. But they vaguely look like G1 Motormaster's chest stickers in the scupt...

    I think the actual angle of the photo is what is throwing this guy's proportions off. For example, look at the complaints about G1 Leader Megatron's short thighs and skinny legs, when the proportions are far better in the Armada picture due to the upright direct pose. This guy definitely has potential. We just need to wait for better pictures.

    Btw this design is based on the newest IDW design, Orion is based on the previous IDW design.

    Yup and I think he looks cool no complaints here, but I don't lose sleepover something I like or don't like. I just don't buy it if I don't like it, nowadays there are somany 3rd party alternatives that getting upset over it seems silly.

    If that's the case, the term "loosely based" applies greatly to this figure. He barely resembles the new design.

    This is true. Maybe they will milk the Motormaster repaint by having him hide a Powermaster head where the Menasor head would go.
