I don't understand how Classics Prime isn't a great representation of the original Prime or fails to capture his essence; expecially compared to Armada Prime. He's a realistic COE truck that transforms into a broad chested, broad shouldered, narrow waisted powerhouse whose chest is created from the windows of the truck and whose abdomen is made...to look like it was made from the grill of the truck (OK, yeah, a fake grill, but that's a crime even MP-10 is guilty of). It's a much better representation of the character than Armada, Energon or Cybertron Prime, and certainly captures the essense better than those impractical, sci-fi-ish alt mode bearing things with poor proportions in robot mode.

And yes, it still stands up against toys on the shelves now. How does it not? True, the transformation may not be as interesting as Evasion Prime, and there may be fewer details molded in, but ultimately it all boils down to it being a great truck that incorporates the weapons nicely (best I've been able to do for Evasion Prime is wedge CHUG Prowl's, Cyb Def Hot Shot's sword and RiD Hightower's pistol into the back - no way I'm sticking that shotgun it comes with on the roof of it) that transforms into, in my opinion anyway, an awesome looking robot (with admittedly a bit of kibble, but not enough to get in the way or hinder it in any way) and an excellent level of articulation. It still stands up against 2014 molds. Is it the best toy ever? No, but it's still very good, and in this set I feel it's the superior toy of the two (and I have a very high opinion of Evasion Prime). It's certainly a better representation of the current IDW Prime.

Now this doesn't mean I wouldn't welcome a better Generations Prime. I'd love a 1:32-ish scale version of the current IDW Prime (at 1:32 it'd have to be about 22 or so cm tall, so current Leader size class). But it's not out yet and may never come to be, and I'm not taking out a second mortgage so that I can buy MP-10, I hate the colors and clear trailer of YOTH, so not getting that, and nothing else has come out that's an adequate G1-IDW Prime (Evasion Prime is good, but his arms are too skinny and there's nowhere to hide a decent sized weapon on him and still have him pass as a truck). So until Hasbro comes out with something like that, you're going to see a lot of people still talking up the Classics mold. Even after that people will still speak fondly of it.

Seriously, aside from the kibble (which plenty of modern toys have...people LOVE ROTF Leader Prime, but have you seen all the shit hanging off of him), what's wrong with this mold?

I'm probably the only guy who wants BOTH figures.

And, is it me, or does the Evasion Prime in this pack have the most accurate paint scheme next to the rusty one?

    I don't see it.

The Deluxe Armada is a realistic enough truck mode. And everything about the robot is better. A better design and a better toy. The only drawback to it is that it's too small to use with the Classics line.

But the Classics Voyager, even if you forget about the ridiculous arms, I really do not like the shape of the chest and torso, and I HATE the triangular shoulders. To the point that this toy all on its own turned me off of the entire Classics line for a long time. Optimus Prime is THE single most important character to get right in any TF toy line, and they totally muffed it.

    Yuck, man, yuck.

Now if they could do something along the lines of an upscaled version of the recent Generations IDW Optimus, that would be a huge improvement.

I think the regular Takara release beats this one for accuracy and details. But that's without any of us having seen the movie yet.

I skipped on Classics Prime in '06, and have been using the deluxe Prime from the Megatron 2 Pack for many years on my G1 CHUG shelf, simply for accuracy of appearance. But since this will cost less than buying the '06 figure on Ebay, I think I'll finally replace him on the shelf with this.

I would guess about 40 beans. Mainly based on the fact that the Grimlock Evolution set is 40, and the Target exclusive of Grimlock and Silver Knight Prime is 30, but that's a deluxe and a voyager.

I say the two pack one is the second most accurate is because of the flames, which he has in the movie. None of the others (cept Rusty) have flames.

The Grimlock set is also a deluxe (and a cheaper one than Optimus, in terms of complexity and size) with a Voyager, yet costs more than Target's set, so that is indicative of nothing.

I'm still expecting $50-60 (more towards $60 given TRU's tendancy to add premium to their exclusives)

And FWIW, Southtown Kid, I also don't much care for the Classics Voyager myself either (wonky head design and arm kibble do it for me, though I'm a bigger fan of Cybertron Prime myself)

The regular Takara release has at least some flames... even if it's only on his shoulders in robot mode.

The only stuff on display at BotCon right now is stuff that has been previously announced (barring those AOE Platinum Edition packs which were removed before the room was opened to the public), and the Prime Evolution Pack has thus far only been revealed via TRU database snooping and wherever the hell that Transformers Colombia fan-page gets all those stock photos from.

There's every chance it'll be revealed officially at the Hasbro panel later today and be put out in the case with a release month.

Supposedly a TRU exclusive. As for when, I do not know (not that you asked).

Okay, thanks for answering the question.
That Classics Prime looks so good, I have wanted to get my hands on that mold but never been able to afford the original release.

I wish this had been released already to pick up on the BOGO50% sale. Classics Optimus Prime is a large part of the reason I returned to collecting Transformers. Despite the age and any flaws of the toy, it really was a stand out of the time and fares favorably today. I strongly considered obtaining the Cloud version as I think the black accents look neat. The chrome on this really hits a nostalgia factor and I've recently came to appreciate chrome as fun.
